Boston Celtics passing destroys Orlando Magic

The Boston Celtics put on a clinic against the Magic, dishing out 31 assists and wearing Orlando down with their speed. Without Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford, and Luke Kornet, Boston ran past the Magic to stay perfect at home. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal gets into why this was the most impressive win of the season for Boston, including how Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown sparked some huge plays.

  1. Can you say 13-0 at the Garden?! LFG! Such a change from last year when you almost expected them to lose at home. I loved Joe’s comments afterwards about the “leadership of Jrue & Derrick”. They’re both so humble and lead by example-not by talk. Those guys are few & far between in today’s NBA if you ask me. So many things to love about this team. And I know Pritchard has struggled this year and has taken some heat for it. Was so good to see him finally have that breakout game (this year anyway) and I hope he can become a reliable piece off the bench. Thanks John! ☘️🔒

  2. Great win! Glad to see the bench step up vs size. 5 takeaways:

    1. every time the magic was threatening to cut it below 15, white stopped their run. He was clutch. He either made the right pass or hit the shot. In derrick white trust. This guy needs the fans to campaign for his 1st all-star selection.

    2. Arguably PPs best game this season. He controlled the pace, distributed well and hit timely 3s. I hope he continues this next game.

    3. I am one of the critics of brissett and calling for more lamar or svi play. Brissett shut me up this game. This is his best game as a celtic. Glad to see him break out of his offensive funk.

    4. Queta was lethargic in the 1st half but got a shot of adrenaline in the 2nd half. Love the blocks. Too bad the refs are picking on him like they do with theis. Props to queta and JB as well for playing through their current injuries.

    5. Still too many pull up, bad shot JT 3s for my liking. JT should really minimize those type of shots. I'd rather he drives, passes the ball or posts up. I crinnged every time JT got the ball at the top of the key until mazzula made an adjustment and let d.white run the offense. Shout out to mazzula for that adjustment. Thats how our offense should be run. Put the ball in the hands of the best decision maker.

Lets get another and shut up those obnoxious magic fans who claim they own the Cs. Push this winning streak to 5 and be the 1st to 20 wins. Go Cs!

Props to John for mentioning potential assists.

  3. This game made me think of tommy myself like i could hear him being excited about so many of the plays tonight especially considering how bad we've been against the magic

  4. Due to cable restrictions, I can’t watch for 3 days ( yes people still have cable) because I live in Florida. Please indulge me with your analysis and comments to ease the pain of not seeing the beat down of these annoying Magic! I thank you!

  5. Celtics finally beat the Mickey Mouse Magic That was some beautiful basketball. Kudos to all the guys who stepped up in the absence of our bigs: Lamar, Queta, Brisset. PP and Sam did their thing (Sam was showing out in front of his parents😂), El Fuego (JB) has been playing excellent basketball lately, OMG D White is just too good. Congrats boys👏🏿, now let's do it again on Sunday

  6. Last time we played Orlando they out physical played us and had all the energy, this time they tried to do that again and were successful in the start of the game until JB shifted the energy to the Celtics with his thunder dunks and they never looked back. The bench was phenomenal. Great STATEMENT win.

  7. This game felt like a playoff game and the Celtics treated that way. Love the dominating win, let's keep it going into Sunday.😃
    Go Celtics!😎
    Awesome video.

  8. I really think the response to the Orlando loss is in large credit to the Celtics coaching staff. The adjustments were a risk but gave enough agency and purpose to the bench. Big ups to Pritchard and Hauser, but Stevens really earned his stripes in the limelight. Overall, impressive win and a different Celtics team with regards to responding to a loss. LFG

  9. I couldnt believe how easily they domininated without their top 3 Centers. I dont think Bucks could win back to back games if they lost Brook Lopez and Middleton in the second game.

  10. The last 2 games were textbook wins, really impressive. I remember when Mazulla said in the preseason that he wanted the team to have plans B and C when plan A is not working and their execution is perfect. They just keep going.

  11. They hustled. They played smart. They moved. They passed the ball. Calling them the best team in the NBA doesn't sound premature and silly when they play like that. And shout out to JB. He played well. Those dunks made hellacious statements. He was literally telling Orlando there are levels to this.

  12. We will look back at this game and say…oh oh. The C's have found the path to change up the speed, rotation, etc. This game will show benefits down the road. Size at times; speed at times.

  13. Mailbag question: Obviously Celtics have a really good starting 5 (&sixth man), and they are also projected to make a lot of trades around the deadline. I'm sure they will are trying to get bench players, and after today's game I think the C's do not necessarily need to acquire a new center right now. I guess guards are not a problem as well with PP and Hauser, so will they be actively searching for a bench forward? If yes, who would be a great addition for this C's team? Thanks John!🙏🍀

  14. The team was really cooking last night. Loved the fast pace and ball movement…need more of that. Awesome job by the bench players. Kudos to Joe and the team.

  15. It’s great. That was awesome to see. This Porzingis calf issue needs to be rested more I guess. What happens if he tries to play through it leads to another injury?

  16. I think the fact Orlando's had their number fed into this–C's had some 'tude. Jaylen did a staredown TWICE.

  17. John, you mentioned when they were 12-0, that it was the 4th C's team to start so. Wanted to add that the first three all won rings. 😉

  18. The experience of the two J’s and their development in strength and skill have made them more aware of what they need to do to impact the game while getting others involved. This current roster can play fast, medium, and slow which is exactly what you need to win not only one championship but multiple ☘️🍀🙌🏾 #DifferentHere #GoCeltics

  19. When Celtics are without a star, I like it actually, at least at this point in the season, I think is safe to feel confident that they are gonna run away in the standings. But when without stars, our weaknesses get exposed but also, we get to strengthen the depth of our team and see different ways this machine works. Right now I’m most excited to see how our bench players do, because these players are practicing every day with the stars….they legit are getting better, and can play with the best. I wouldn’t be surprised if Prichard and Houser end up becoming stars later in their career. I know that seems laughable, but I think being around this type of talent and culture is far more valuable to a bench squad than anyone really realizes. Even Kornet has these eruptions, which I think remind people that this isn’t high school and he is not an uncoordinated big, just existing. In the grand scheme, Kornet is one of the best basketball players on the planet by virtue of being in the NBA. That also gets a boost by playing on the best team on the planet as of right now. Our bench when stars are resting, get this special elevation no one else in the league gets, specifically because of how this team is crafted. It just flows. And our bench needs this playing time investment. Bold statement, we have the best bench in the league, and it’s not even close.

  20. They started so cold, in seasons past we wouldn’t have been able to turn the corner and fall into last resort iso ball. Not tonight, encouraging to see.

  21. When this team plays the right way they can beat anyone. With a healthy KP, they become an unbeatable team in the playoffs. When nothing is working, just give it to the Unicorn.

  22. You know what happens John is NEXT game is the trap game because they won the one they weren't supposed to so will they work as hard next one or get cocky. But agree this was by far the best win for the team yet. If they could bring that type of energy and determination consistently game to game ( not to mention 3rd quarters ) theyd be a championship lock for as long as this team stays together.

  23. D White is the modern day Dennis Johnson for the Celts. You had to find a way to look past Bird, McHale, and Parrish to appreciate how great he was for THAT Celtics team but ask Larry about how great DJ was

  24. What a great team win. I'll even give some flowers to Mazulla for utilizing his entire bench and team and encouraging some diversity in their offense ( theyre still a little too encouraged by Mazzula to shoot those pull up threes though )

  25. The turning point in the 1st wasn’t just PP, he came in with Queta, it was his screens getting guys free and breaking Magic’s defensive rotation

  26. Idk exactly how much celtics kool aid is coursing through my arteries, heart and veins right now, but I know it's an absurd and unhealthy amount shamrock ☘️ 🍻 ‼️

  27. It looked like JB & JT were alpha dogs on their drives. Not looking to drive to get calls but saying “eff you” the only way you’re stopping me is to foul. Even when they were hot earlier in the season/career it looked different than last night.
