The Raptors need to start asking the right questions

The Toronto Raptors are 10-15, with an extended road trip coming up. Things don’t get much easier for a team that has seemed hell-bent on shooting themselves in the foot this season.

The roster lacks space, the defense has fallen off a cliff, the young guys aren’t developing as planned, and apart from Scottie Barnes’ brilliance, there’s not a whole lot to be excited about.

Does the team lack shooting, or do they lack cohesive lineups? Does the team lack leadership or do they simply lack the pieces to be competitive? Is this team playing down to their competition or are they just not as talented as we think?

There are 11 questions the Raptors must ask and answer before it’s too late. Another season.. slowly slipping away.

  1. IMO we are lacking viable depth at center and pg positions. I would have been more happy with the roster if we had Dowtin to compete with Flynn for pg/sg roles and have a depth Center with a stronger scoring resume like Luka Garza who can make midrange shots from the nail/freethrow line. Poeltl is jamming the offense because he can left alone in the middle of the court and he can't threaten to make a shot. Everyone wants a center who shoots 3's but we need mid range shooters who can be efficient when they have open shots. Also Grady is going to struggle to play with enough force. He is too soft defending sg's and it only gets worse when he defends the 3 position. It's going to be a slow process

  2. The heat scammed us with precious, they knew his profile seemed to have so much upside and probably pretended they didn't know he wasn't developing at all

  3. Raptors need to bring in Chris Paul.He would bring proper veteran leadership, not to mention… He would essentially be another assistant coach in the locker room and on the court.
Chris Paul would hold the coaching staff and players accountable. He would be that other dog on tteam.

  4. All really good questions. I was supposed to see this team in NY, but I couldn’t go for unexpected life reasons.. very disappointed to miss the trip, but I guess though I missed the Garden I didnt miss watching more recent Raptors futility .. so there’s that

I def had rose coloured glasses this year for what could have been. I didn’t expect or understand at all the addition of Denis. But beyond him the regression of Poeltl is something I have really noticed this year. I feel like he’s really gotta be doing everything else well to make up for the sad shooting — rim protection, scoring in the post, excellent play making, pick and roll .. pretty much anything to make up for the fact he otherwise doesn’t space at all or hit free throws; and yeah this year it’s really not it, and it’s ugly to watch lately.

  5. Raptors needs new front office . that is the biggest problem on this team.
Rigt now management resembles moron, fools most oi all stupid losers.
Harsh no, because they pass on so many guards. The National Anthem is " We stand on Guard for Thee, This management has no IDea

  6. Raptors brought back the wrong center as I was really looking forward to a JV reunion. Hits 3's over 35%, good free throw shooter and character guy.

  7. Thank you Rob! Really enjoyed listening to your thoughts and questions regarding this team. I hope Koloko is doing better and returns soon.

  8. The right questions are: why surround OG, Pascal and Barnes with two non-shooters in the starting lineup? What has Bobby Webster been doing post 2019 as the GM? Making highly questionable trades with SA (Young & Poeltl) while trading away FRPs in the process. Is Masai spending too much time in Africa and not in Toronto? What is wrong with the Raps developmental staff? What is wrong with the Raptors evaluation for draft prospects ie Grady Dick?

  9. they dont have their pick this year i think unless they tank. this is where it gets worse imo. we might be bad for the next while. i don't think we'll be a playoff team for a long time.
