  1. 2008 Celtics were the best DEFENSIVE team I ever saw in ANY era imo. Talking about as a team above and beyond any individuals although they certainly responded to KG's leadership. Look at the scores of the finals playoffs in 2008. Never thought defense could be so thrilling. Even the bad boy Pistons didn't impress as much – to me they were just physical but not defensive finesse.. Ironically the next best defensive TEAM I ever saw imo was also the Celtics of the SECOND half of the 2021- 22 season under Ime Udoka with Marcus Smart and a briefly healthy Robert Williams leading the way. Would have loved to see another season of that style of play, but wasn't meant to be – Udoka got suspended Rob was hurt and Mazulla took over and took the team in a different direction. ( Third best as a team for me was the Ben Wallace led Pistons btw)

  2. C'mon, there is so much history in the Celtics. This is like asking what Montreal Canadiens team was the best. Give it a rest. It is hard to rise above a league so much that you rise above all history.
Even picking the best five players for each position is nearly impossible. And don't forget the 6th man position. The Celts have so many to choose from.

  3. The 1963 Celtics. Russell, Cousy, Jones, Havlicek, Ryan, Sanders, KC Jones. 8 HOFs and the Greatest of All Time in his prime. It's not a contest. When I used to ask my dad about who was better, Jordan or Bill Russell, he answered what's 11 minus 6. Or if you throw King James in there, 11 minus 10.
