We were demolished, terrible 4th quarter, some of the worst team basketball of the season. Respect Boston , but we are better than this.

  2. evenyetodd

GG Celts, the better team won this weekend. Truthfully, Our defense has been getting worse since Washington or maybe even Charlotte. Redeemable game for Paolo.

  3. rustystatic

I want Dell back desperately. We need a C who will at least attempt a 3, especially if none of our guards can hit a thing. Spacing is awful out there

    Well done Paolo

    Brush it off Franz

Is Gary Harris just bad now?

  4. Disappointing, but I’d hazard to react too strongly to this as the Celtics are the best team in the league. Close for most of the game with a sub par performance but should be much better

  5. thestandupkids

Losing record on the road and against teams over .500 does not spell playoff success hoping we can snag the 6th seed this year

  6. thewrongnotes

Proper reality check, much needed to be honest. This team has a long way to go.

No shame in losing at the best team in the league, but like a few other teams over the last couple of years, they showed we can be exposed by packing the paint.

Still, 11-1 at home. Defend home court and we’ll see what happens.

  7. Man, I’m tired of this post-Dwight era of Magic basketball where we just keep putting together teams of guys who can’t shoot from 3.

It’s been a decade of pain

  8. minaismybias

The shot making difference was insane this game. Franz really needs his 3 pointer back because teams stop respecting it and it makes everything much harder for him

  9. Harris straight up looks disinterested out there, idk why he’s getting minutes over anybody right now, let alone 25 minutes…

  10. treadwater23

Need Fultz and WCJ back even if they aren’t the “answers” or the “future”. Helps with depth.

There was just no answer tonight in terms of who should’ve played or whatever, we needed everybody to play well. Franz needs to be a legit 2nd option, failed. Paolo struggled with efficiency in the 2nd half after an amazing 1st half, our bench, which was our biggest strength earlier in the year, has turned into a pumpkin.

Factor in all of those things, against Boston on the road.. it ain’t pretty. We’ve won this year largely by people excelling in their roles.

We need more from the pg position when Kelle gets back AB needs to move back to 3rd string and honestly needs a stint in the g league to work on his aggressiveness. Also, Gary needs to be benched in favor of Caleb at the moment because we aren’t getting anything from him. Tough back to back losses but have to regroup and bring it on Wednesday at home hopefully Kelle and Dell are back by then.

  12. krunk_rabbit

I know spirits are kinda low right now but the C’s are a legit championship contender, and we are still learning the different levels of pressure. I will say I’d kick the tires immediately on a trade for Malcolm Brogdon and Bojan Bogdanovic, we need to upgrade the shooting on the roster and take care of the ball.

  13. 102jamzWithJamOnIt

We have a real shot at a win tonight if franz gets something going. Anything, really

We NEED Markelle and Wendell. The return of those two should help dramatically especially on the boards, defensive communication and getting us into our offense when things get bogged down. We’ll be fine. A young up and coming team just took a couple of shots from a team that has been in the Finals and around the elite teams for 5 years or so.

I hope Franz gets a fire lit under him when he watches this film because it’s just all around bad. It’s not a skill issue because the mechanics are still there but the effort and toughness is not.
He isn’t shooting well, passing well, getting FT, rebounding or cutting to the basket. He’s getting cooked on defense too. It’s disappointing how many games this year he has contributed nothing.

  16. jbiorci00

We shouldn’t really be blaming role players for losses like this. At the end of the day our offense hinges on Franz, Paolo, Cole and Joe, those guys are in the engine room.

Unfortunately Joe was out and Franz and Cole didn’t show up for work today. Never gonna win a game like that.

When Markelle comes back he’s included in that group, but longterm, how many of those guys do you think can fuel a contending team?

Definitely Paolo, maybe Franz? Joe is great but he’s old.

Cole and Markelle both have major question marks for me.

  17. SpideyUdaman

So what? We got defeated by a championship bred team. More games on the way. But we do need to patch thinga up and try not to have losing streaks. Markelle and Wendell may help us get it together.

  18. Herakleios

It’s clear we aren’t nearly on the level of the Celtics. Even with WCJ and Fultz back (which will help, despite what SO MANY on this sub have been saying) we are not there yet.

Biggest things are 1. poise, we really lacked it in these two games, got rattled at times and it really showed. And 2. Talent. Yes, we are not as talented as a team like the Celtics. Their two stars are far better than our two stars, and their supporting cast is better than our supporting cast.

That’s okay, we’re a much much younger team. But there are definitely pain points we got to work on. Franz in particular this season has NOT made the leap we were hoping for. I’m not saying he’s been bad, but I’m not sure he’s been any better than last year, and his shooting has by the metrics been clearly worse. Suggs has improved a lot offensively, but not enough to make up the difference.

We needed Franz to at least match Jaylen Brown these two games, but he was clearly outplayed.

Paolo was probably the best player tonight, but numbers 2-6 were probably all Celtics.

This isn’t a doom or gloom post, but like Magic fandom get your expectations in order because we are NOT a top 3 team in the East. Hopefully we can gut out the 4 seed.

  19. drmuffin1080

I did not expect Franz’s 3 point shot to collapse so drastically. It’s been a major disappointment

  20. AlienGhost000

The difference was probably the 3pt Field goals made. We both shot 36 attempts. Boston made 17 while we only made 11. Sooo that’s straight up 18 more points

  21. Franz’s shot looks different, he seems to load it up further from his body. Overall the shot is not as smooth compared to how he used to shoot it 😢

  22. most_unoriginal_ign

What happened to Franz…he has been so inconsistent this season. So lights out super efficient games, some stinkers like this one

  23. xBerryhill

TLDR: I’m not worried, but man some things are frustrating.

I picked the Celtics to win it all this year, so these games don’t say a whole lot for me. I was hoping we could split 1-1, but asking a young team to win on the road against arguably the best team in the league who is undefeated at home is asking for a lot. There’s just a few things to really take from this two game stand against the Celtics.

Paolo is that dude. His shooting stats don’t look as good as they should have been because he started forcing a lot like he did in the first game because, well, no one else could buy a bucket. And he still shot 14-30, which isn’t bad. 4-10 from 3 as well. He’s still got to learn to handle the ball better but he’s the franchise.

Franz shooting 3-14 was painful and frustrating in the moment but it is what it is. He’s struggling this year and his shooting numbers are down across the board, but I don’t really care. Let it fly. He’ll either figure it out somewhere down the line or we’ll figure out he’s not the 1B we thought he’d be next to Paolo.

Our defense, particularly on the second unit, is porous. Gary looks slow now, we already know Joe isn’t quick, Cole seems to be regressing from the good start of the season he had defensively, and JI doesn’t play next to Moe enough to canvas Moe’s absolutely abysmal interior defense. I don’t know what the solution is. Hopefully Mose can hammer something into them and it’s just an effort thing or someone’s hurt, but this can’t keep happening. If the second unit isn’t scoring, they are a liability.

And my biggest pet peeve, this team doesn’t fucking box out. The amount of times we saw Pritchard show up in the paint, whether he got the rebound or not, was pathetic. This really is just an effort thing. They don’t put a body on anyone either. Watching Kristaps roll to the rim with Goga, Paolo, and AB all right there just for him to get the and1 putback was beyond sad. Some things this team just isn’t good enough at yet, but sometimes the effort they give doesn’t match their talent. This area is one of those.

Regardless, we need more games like this. If we keep getting smacked by good teams we’ll learn what we need to get better at. We’re beating the teams we should beat this year, that’s arguably the most important thing. We’re talented, this team just isn’t there yet, and that’s ok.

  24. Cthulhus-Tailor

Good news is that the Celtics are a top team and were treating these two games like the Super Bowl because the Magic have been consistently stomping them for two years now, even as a lottery team. My family is from Mass so I can confirm this.

They’re also in the midst of a crucial home stand and are the best home court team in the league.

Bad news it that the Magic looked really bad in these losses beyond anything the Celtics did. We talk about getting more shooters, but even our guys who can shoot missed good shots consistently. I feel like you could put Steph Curry with these guys and he’d slump.

Meanwhile, our vaunted defense has been on vacation for a couple of weeks at least. Injury woes are also adding up, with Joe and Jalen- both of whom are crucial- joining Markelle and Wendell.

The Magic need all of these guys healthy. Lastly, what the hell happened to the Wagners? Franz has been disastrous since his 30pt run and Moe’s energy has been badly missed as well.

Did they just discover they were adopted?

  25. Franz offensive game is completely broken. The jumper is broken, and the slow laborious euro steps to the hoop are far too predictable. If he can’t fix his jumper and have a more diverse set of moves, it might be a long season for us offensively. Last year, I think he was successful because defenses didn’t know what to expect from him. Now they know what to expect from him, and he’s not athletic enough to just will his way to the basket. I’m starting to fear he might have been a bit of a one year wonder. His game has become very stale.

  26. Effective_Owl_17

Need more from our guards… literally outside of Cole right now none of them seem to have any idea on how to run the offense.

  27. Loose-Animal7305

No shame in losing to the top team in the East, but I hope the Magic are planning some serious get back after that one

  28. tofubeanz420

I love how this subreddit rode the 9 win streak high. And now it’s coming back down to reality. The reality is we don’t have consistent 3pt shooting at the guard position. Kelle coming back isn’t going to help that fundamental issue. We need to make a trade for 3pt. Period.

  29. Elithekid1

Franz is avg 20 with his shot being the worst it’s gonna be for the rest of his career probably and you guys are wondering if he’s a key piece lol
