Let's not drink the Koolaid on these "statement wins"
Lebron had very underwhelming 1st half. Even if he played average, the Knicks lose that game.
The Taj Gibson signing is seeming pointless unless he's going into a vet leadership role …
Jericho Sims was out early and Taj barely played. Julius clocked in 43 minutes.
You're not about to run Julius tank on empty this early in the season just because you can't build a roster correctly..
Go get a Mo Bamba… He can shoot the 3. Mid range. Finish around the rim. 7 feet with a 7'10 wing span
Mo Bamba should provide Offense/spacing and with his length it can make up a little bit not having Mitch.
As far as the Suns win… Look KD still lookks good but that's not KD at his age.
The Suns seemed deflated after Beal went down… They were giving Brunson wide open 3's
Not trapping Brunson to make him a playmaker..
If you noticed, which is rare that teams trap Brunson within the 3pt line on his point of attack.. But when teams do this, he's very liable to turn the ball over
He's on the smaller side, he's shoot first, not a great passer… Teams could easily get the ball out of his hands more
But for the most part, they let Brunson dance 1 on 1 & come off screens for open shots
It seems this is the strategy because can accumulate assists as often as he has the ball off a simple pass in today's NBA
But Brunson isn't really playmaking much… Teams know if you leave Brunson to dance.. He's shooting that ball.
Whether he's hot or not… It's better than doubling him and leaving guys like Julius open to attack.
Everyone is so high on Brunson but the key for the Knicks to go far with Brunson's scoring depends on Randle and RJ.. More so Randle..
Why did i see a successful pick n roll sequence between Grimes and Randle vs the Lakers … But We never see Brunson attempt it with Julius?
Why don't our two best players have a consistent pick n roll game??
Randle is drawing the most doubles on the team this year , just like last season…
And the Knicks are doing a better job at not clogging the paint as much…
But vs really good teams… The roster/offense is designed to limit Julius offensively & make him a passer
The issue with that is .. We don't have enough spacing around Julius.. We don't have the consistent shooters.
We don't have the lengthy wings to play defense on the other end against elite wings… We don't a 5 that other teams have to truly guard and account for.
The Knicks are right there…. You just have to space the floor for Randle & RJ and add some length on the wings.
You don't need a star for that.. Julius statically is consistently teetering in elite company…
The last 5 years Giannis, Jokic ,Embiid & Randle only players in the league with 20 10 & 5
And Julius is the only one without consistent shooters… Not playing in a 5 out offense and doesn't have a pick n roll game with his point guard .
He's not LeBron James and even LeBron would not accept this roster that is around Julius.
Brunson & Randle are enough without "a star"
The issue is Thibs and the front office need to be better
