Personally I think he’d be a great option at PF. He could also be a stretch 5 if needed. He’s a great defender and a decent shooter before getting wide open looks from Luka. If the price is right I think we should go for it.

  2. Techwield

No opinion on Stewart, but it’s nice to hear people refer to us as contenders lol

  3. wheresthecheat

Idk if he’s necessarily better or worse than Holmes as a back up big since I don’t see any Piston games but he’s going to be making 15mil for the next 3 years which seems like a lot for someone who is still an undersized big

  4. Surely to be strictly Lively backup.

He will need to be able to defend at the perimeter and put up a few 3s to play PF.

  5. EmrysMyrdin

I would also take a shot at Wiseman. Playing next to Luka is a perfect situation for someone like him. He is still very young and would cost next to nothing.

  6. Jackfitz88

I’d like this addition. We need some size, defense, and rebounding. He’s all three and only 22. Lets get younger and stronger, and with Luka running the point, he’ll get a ton of open looks and lobs

Beef Stew would work great on our team. He can play the 4 or 5. Shoots the 3 well. Crazy tenacity to help us not get bullied against the likes of Denver and Minnesota. I think he would make some of our lineups a lot more effective. Also I want a guy out there to get physical when teams do that to Luka. Tired of watching our guy get clobbered with no threat of repercussions.

  8. Somewhat unrelated: Is it just me or do those proposed trades look seriously lob-sided to benefit the Pistons?

  9. Active_Page_3886

Would love him for the right price, but I think PJ Washington makes more sense for what I assume is a similar price

  10. Swimming-Run-3182

How is his FG% 45? That seems awful for a big man

  11. sportsfrk1

I know nothing about this guy except stats online – if I were to compare him to Grant Williams in stats he seems to be 2″ taller and better at everything but the 3 bball. Does this check out? Anyone able to give an actual comparison on how our 4 would playout between these two players?

  12. We can never outbid OKC but to think Kevon Looney killed everyone and made GSW winners 2 years ago, im not saying he is short and closing the opportunity. Knicks screwed Pistons, its our turn.

  13. I looked at possible trades and it is not so easy due to the poison pill provisions.

Holmes+Hardy for Hayes+Stew works I think but I think might turn us into a tax team, which has MLE implications.

Moving Green would further complicate things. Not moving Holmes would imho lead to having too many bigs. Maxi while injury prone is at least flexible.

In my mind I’d like to us to bid for the Hornets’ PJ Washington and Nick Richards.

PJ isn’t a fantastic wing defender but I’d like his prospects here in Dallas. We need another starting 4.

Nick Richards is a lob threat 7 footer who is a solid rebounder. He’s a step down from guys like Lively and Nic Claxton, but he’s a step up from guys like Moses Brown (and obviously Powell, Holmes, and Maxi when he plays 5).

  15. Eh not sure abt this. I’m more in on kuzma and jerami grant, guys who have already established themselves as really good wings instead of a younger guy who still has a ways to go. And I don’t even think his defense is better than those guys. If it’s a low cost acquisition, sure, but if we’re going that route, target achiuwa from Toronto instead of Stewart. Achiuwa is cheaper and a better defender.

Stew is a good player playing out of role on the pistons. You have a legit center in lively that can support him, play him in a good amount but not too many minutes he will be a fan favorite. His value and impact is getting killed in Detroit

  17. iAmBaTmAn1388

The league is getting taller id prefer a legit 7ft backup c. How else are we going to contend with that 7’9 goofy in San Antonio? Nothing against Stewart but we are so small. We already have grant who’s about 4 inches undersized at the 4.

  18. StefonDiggsHS

I kinda dont want him, I’d like someone with more size as a back up big

  19. AdmiralSnackbar816

Beef Stew would be perfect here and wouldn’t take a king’s ransom to acquire. Depending on the opponent he can either start at the 4 or backup Lively. The man is a rebounding machine and has more shooting touch than you might expect. Our toughness factor would also skyrocket.

A front court rotation of Lively/Stewart/GWill/DJJ would be a perfect complement to how guard heavy we play on offense. (Im assuming Maxi or Holmes gets traded).

  20. CoachAyeeeee

Energy and toughness off the bench would be nice. Young to boot. Probably not too expensive.

  21. epitome1986

I have wanted beef stew on the mavericks roster for a while. I just dont know what we can offer to outbid others. we have an abundance of guards but so do the pistons. I even bounced the idea of trading the frp last year if no one we wanted was available (I thought lively would be good but I thought beef stew would have been better.) but if the mavericks end up with having lively start and stew being the back up then all is good.

you can even use stew at the 4 since he can shoot 3’s as well.

  22. slimkid07

    I like it.

What about Wiseman for cash and a 2nd?

    Let him develop

  23. epitome1986

what could the mavericks offer? I think it would require one of green, hardy, omax, along with salary match and a second round pick or so.

  24. Theoretical_TJ

He’s got a 7’4″ wingspan. That’s completely legit especially as a big body. I like the concept.

That’s not dissimilar from a Naz Reid, Jarret Allen, or a Bam Adebayo height-wingspan size.

  25. LogansGambit

Bro stood up to LeBron on the court. I’ll take him anyday.

  26. Onebigfreakinnerd

Pistons fan here. Well, my first team is Dallas, since I live here, but I’ve had a love for Detroit (the city) for years and very much like Detroit sports.

Beef Stew is not great to say the least lol. Offensively he was never developed great and defensively, his body is there, but he’s so constantly out of position in the paint he just gets backed into a corner and scored on.

Is he maybe better than Grant Williams? Debatable, I would say maybe, but Grant proved he was capable of starting on a (near) championship team, Stew is not even getting minutes on the, so far, worst team in history.

  27. DoeJumars

what do you guys think of THJ for him straight up?
