PWat’s Defense

Pwat’s Defense

Iso Defense Per Synergy:
Pwat: 78th percentile on 20 isos defended
OG: 73rd percentile on 30 isos defended
Jaden: 40th percentile 18 isos defended
Herb Jones: You need to have defended at least 10 isolations to qualify and Herb hasn’t yet which probably means that Herb is so good players aren’t even trying him. Insane.

The Nuggets allow 4.6pts less per 100 possessions when Pwat is on the floor which is the best out of anyone on the team. This is equal to 111pts which would be the 7th best Drtg in the NBA.

So not only is Pwat locking up the best players regardless of position but he’s also being an elite rim protector while being disruptive off ball and not fouling.

Another interesting thing about Pwat as well is that he has an 8.11.5” standing reach. For context this is only half an inch shorter than one of the best shot blockers in the game Anthony Davis. Zeke Nnaji who’s 6’9” and AG who’s 6’7.5” both have a smaller standing reach than Pwat who’s 6’6.75”. Zeke’s is 8.9.5” and AG’s is 8.9”. In fact you’ll only find a few players in the league not listed as PFs or Centers that have a similar standing reach and there also amazing defenders as well (OG, Wiggins, Scottie Barnes) So basically Pwat moves like a wing but has the length to contest/block shots of a PF/C.

Small sample size but when you take the stats, measureables, and the eye test i’m pretty confident in saying that the Nuggets have one of the best defenders in the game. Oh yeah and he’s also only 21.

There is no way that Watson is shorter than 6’7″. He looks to have grown substantially since getting drafted and is close to Jokic in height. He’s probably closer to 6’9″ these days.

+1.6 D-EPM so far this season also (91st percentile). All this as a 21yo with 1025 minutes (!) total of experience NBA + College. All-defensive selections in his future. And if he can significantly fill out over time, gain enough strenght to be able to handle bigs like Herb or OG can for that 1-5 versatility, DPOYs in his future aren’t out of question. He’s got that kind of potential.

  3. Out of our 5 it’s pretty obvious due to age that KCP will be the first to probably fall off, Pwat and Strawther are probably the guys in contention for that spot, bad thing is KCP is both players in one to a relative degree. Has watsons D and Strawther 3 pointer. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with them for us over the next couple seasons. My guess is Watson moves to the starting 5 and Strawther is our 6th man.
