Game was lost when we went on a TOVfest to end the 3rd/start the 4th.

I don’t really know what to say the Jazz could’ve done better, not playing Taylor sucked but Christ man even when Utah guards on the ball and has a good closeout they still made everything.
One of those games it just feels like every god hates your franchise lmao

GAME NOTES:
Firstly, sorry for the lack of game notes recently. I had to lock in with Finals this past week, and the Holidays always gets busier.
Secondly what the hell. We let Bountiful Man Sam Merrill cook us. Our perimeter defense was nonexistent. No Evan Mobley, No Darius Garland, No Donovan Mitchell, and we got fried by Sam Merrill, Caris LeVert, and Max Strus.
We actually had the lead going into the fourth quarter before absolutely imploding. THT was our only source of offense the fourth quarter, which is absolutely terrible.
Lauri looked off his game today. He missed every shot he took in the fourth quarter, but still ended with 26 points, 8-18 shooting, 3-9 from 3, and 7-8 from the free throw line. 10 rebounds, 1 assist, and that’s pretty much it. One thing that somebody on twitter pointed out (may have been Tony Jones) was that all other teams run multiple sets for their stars. If the Celtics run a play for Tatum and it gets blown up, they run a different set for Tatum. Same with the Warriors and Curry. However, if the play gets blown up for Lauri, he doesn’t touch the ball the rest of the possession. I don’t know if it is personnel, coaching, or what. But it’s frustrating to see him go multiple consecutive possessions without getting the ball.
THT played a great game. Like I said, he was our only source of offense in the 4th, which isn’t great. He finished with a double-double, 19 points on 6-13 shooting, 7-8 from the free throw line was huge, and 11 assists. Just 1 turnover as well! He had a number of nice passes that were placed perfectly. I was pretty impressed by him. I think that Hardy has him on a shorter leash than before, in the first quarter his defense was terrible, and he iso’d and missed a bad turnaround fadeaway midrange jumper and was promptly benched faster than I’ve seen from him. I think that it shows that Hardy is experimenting, and trying to teach THT by benching him after mistakes.
Collin Sexton had 20 points tonight on some inefficient inside scoring. He shot 3-6 from 3, but just 4-11 from inside the arc (7-17 overall). He had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 turnovers as well. His defense and intensity wasn’t as apparent tonight, although he does have some highlights of forcing jump balls on Strus & Thompson. He looked like he was trying out there, almost a little too hard. His shot from deep was falling which helped him out, but he wasn’t able to get anything going inside.
Kris Dunn was perfect shooting-wise tonight. 3-3 shooting, 2-2 from 3 for 8 points. His downside was his turnovers and fouls. He played 16 minutes, 4 turnovers, and 4 fouls. Not great, which is rough considering that he was shooting the ball well. With THT & Sexton playing better, I wonder if Dunn goes back to DNP-CD when George and JC get back.
Walker Kessler had a tale of two halves tonight. His first half he was sloppy, and was being outplayed by Tristan Thompson. He couldn’t get anything going on either end. The second half, he was more focused, his touch around the rim improved, and his defense was better. He finished with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block. His rebounding left a lot to be desired, and I think the biggest thing we are looking for is just consistency from him at this point.
Agbaji played just 16 minutes tonight. His defense just wasn’t there. He was losing sight of Merrill, Strus, Niang, and LeVert. They were running circles around him, and it wasn’t pretty. He had 3 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block (which was a great block in the third quarter), and 1 assist. I want to see more from him personally, I feel like I’ve been a harsher judge than some, but it is frustrating for me to see him be a nonfactor. He was a team low -17. We’ve seen the offensive flashes from him, I just want to see it more frequently.
John Collins played great off the bench offensively. 5-8, 2-4 from 3, 4-4 from the line, 16 points, 5 rebounds. Defensively, not so much. He struggled with his matchups and was a -16 in his 23 minutes. He did go back n forth with Merrill on a few 3’s in the second quarter which was fun to see, but his defensive effort was lackluster in a team sense. Individually, 1 steal and 1 block is nice, but in a team effort, not so much.
Klynyk played alright. 2-3, 5 points, 6 assists, 3 turnovers. He passes up on a few too many shots that I’d like him to take.
10-18. Frustrating game, especially the third quarter where we were outscored 19-2 in the first 5 minutes of the quarter. The bench/depth of Cleveland is impressive, and their shooting even more impressive. 75 bench points by the Cavs tonight is unreal. Our perimeter defense just shit itself, and has been for a while. We are letting teams shoot as many 3’s, and we aren’t staying connected to guys. We can’t allow Sam Merrill and Keegan Murray to cook us from deep.

Painful fucking loss
beastley_for_three
Outside shots weren’t falling tonight while Cavs were hitting everything.
Decent game for Lauri, Sexton, and THT though.
Not sure where Agbaji and Hendricks went, they’d be nice to have on defense more often.
Denotsyek
THT 19 points 11 assists 1 steal and 1 turnover

I’m a Cavs fan so I’m expecting some downvotes, but just wanted to say thanks for letting Sexton thrive. We in Cleveland continue to love watching him cook. GG

I don’t understand how we constantly leave good 3 point shooters wide open. Repeatedly. It’s completely incomprehensible.

You guys better not let the Pistons end their streak tomorrow.
poopoojoefocker
When Collins and Olynyk literally fumbled the ball away back-to-back late in the 3rd when we had the momentum to go up by 6, I knew the Cavs were going to swing back with some BS 3s in the 4th..
So important to just knock these role players out when you get the chance to, otherwise you allow them to build that confidence, especially playing at home..
Xsy
Solid game from the boys, aside from the 4th quarter meltdown.
The fact that I was more annoyed by refs than our players speaks a lot. I’m back to coping instead of seething.

As a Jazz fan, I’m sad.
As a USU alum, I couldn’t be more thrilled.
Lots of emotions all at once.

Within 18 months the Jazz are gunna blow it up for a third time

No Mitchell, Garland, or Mobley, and we still lose after being up 1 heading into the 4th. I love the dudes on this team but damn we’re trash.
austinc668
That loss is worse than losing by 50 to the Mavs to me.
Our defense under Hardy has been very disappointing.
lumpyfred
It feels like we would’ve lost this game no matter what. Cavs shooting and overall team play was unreal. Probably how the Nets felt after last game
