That’s not necessarily true. Seattle has so many transplants that moved there after 2009 that it outweighed the people who were around to watch the team. I know plenty of Sonics fans that watch the blazers.
And the transplants are bandwagon fans who seemingly hop around team-to-team based on who is winning.
I dig that. The Sonics/blazers rivalry was undeniably its own thing.
Yeah I still get a lot of hate for moving up here and being a blazers fan.
What stands out to me? They changed background colors for many teams from one year to the next, even making states that had the same team the year prior look like they changed teams. Denver went from red to blue. Timberwolves went from green to blue, making you think it’s also Denver if you just glance. Same for Philly going from red to blue. Lakers went from purple to yellow, making it look like California didn’t just switch from warriors to Lakers.
As a scientist that has to look at graphs and figures all the time, what stands out to me is that Basketball Reference needs to learn to have some consistency when making figures for comparison.

You’re inferring that Seattle isn’t filled with Blazers because of an infographic that indicates who the most searched for team is?
Did you also actually think the Pistons were the most popular team in Alabama? Or the Lakers in… North Carolina??
