I think I speak with the vast majority of fans here by giving this a big fucking thumbs down. Giving up on Walker not even halfway through his rookie season? Trading Bruce Brown away to Toronto is a sure fire way to alienate any future free agent prospects. All for a rental of Siakam.

Absolutely hell no. This team is not contending this year even with Siakam. Our goal should be to make the playoffs and get our young guys experience. There is no reason to give up any real assets for an expiring contract. I do love the fit of Siakam on this team but we can go after him in free agency.

Siakam needs to come with an extension. I’m 100% confident we are targeting OG and not Pascal though.

I’d do that in a split second if it comes with some assurance that he re-signs.
Not really interested in trading for Siakam at all

IMO, if Siakim re-signs, then giving up Walker as the main piece headed back to Toronto is not much.
The question is… should the Pacers want to sign Siakim to a max deal? He’d be in his prime for the first 3ish years of it. But what is our ceiling with our roster flexibility basically gone, and the core as it stands with Siakim.
Idk honestly. Nuggets just won it all with Murray as the 2. Warriors won it all with Wiggins as the 2. Raptors won it all with Siakim as the 2 just a few years ago. Bucks won it all with Middleton as the 2.
The takeaway is that in recent years, the second best player on the team doesn’t have to be incredible, just all star quality, if the 1 on the team is that dude.

Haliburton-Hield-Nesmith-Siakim-Turner with Mathurin, Nembhard, and Smith off the bench is a solid 8 man playoff rotation.
The biggest concern is re-signing Siakim. If you get him to re-sign on a 3 or 4 year deal, it would be worth it. If he bounces, you have one playoff exit and a lost lottery prospect to show for it, and that would stink.
With Siakim and Haliburton, you have two complementary All Star talents / fringe All NBA talents depending on the season, a good variety of picks, and cap space going into the off season.
It’s not crazy to think IND could sign OG in FA, and then you go into 24-25 with this lineup:
Haliburton-Mathurin-OG-Siakim-Turner. And then a good mix of vets and young players on the bench.
