Woike: Starting Vando over Russel “Indeed the Plan”

https://x.com/danwoikesports/status/1738581552177565875?s=46

Our defense is going to be suffocating but how are we going to score with Cam and Vando starting together? I’m very interested in our bench rotations too

*edit* won’t let me fix the title, “Russell” obv 🤦‍♂️

if cam and quite frankly vando been playing how they have been then our defense won’t be suffocating. lol neither of them been impressive lately – tho vando injured, cam just been plain bad.

I kinda love it against this Thunder team who is so rangey. In these lineups Bron and AD have to do everything offensively which I don’t love but this Thunder team is a really difficult puzzle.

The best offense here is gonna be can we get out and run I don’t think it’s a long term viable option, but I also didn’t think Cam would be any good so we’ll see.

Edit- this sub: “Dlo sucks! Play Vando! Trade Dlo! Ham does nothing!”

Ham- subs out Dlo for Vando

This sub- “THIS IS DUMB ALSO!”

  3. Top-Consequence-911

This is an idiotic idea. Vando has looked like shit and his offence reeks.

Why need a good PG if we don’t even start with a PG.
Such big brain from our coaching staff

  5. Far_Blackberry3029

Have one of the worst offenses in the league and what does our coach decide to do? Start our two worst offensive players together with bron and Ad LMFAOO. No more driving lanes… No more space in the paint for AD. But hey it’s bittersweet cuz if it’s ass, then more ammunition to send ham packing

  6. RemoveHuman

We can’t score anyway might as well not let the other team score either.

  7. ive stayed away from being “reactionary” and tried giving ham a chance but wtf is the man doing?

the issue isnt even our defence but the bad offense were running, if youre going to bench dlo atleast start austin so we wont go down 15 after the first. then dlo can hopefully feast on bench guards and help rui get into the flow of the offense since hes better with a playmaker.

  8. This is going to backfire so fucking hard. Wtf is this team doing.

  9. _Zap_Rowsdower_

So who is point guard, Cam Reddish? The fuk is this lineup.

  10. KingNephew

I’ll give it a chance but this could really backfire cause that means D’lo/Reaves bench back court lol.

  11. KyrieWetUpCurry_

Coldest of reality checks for D’lo stans. Also, there’s no way this guy isn’t getting shipped out at this point. LeBron back to pg I guess surrounded by 3 non shooters.

  12. Odd-Direction9452

“We heard y’all need offense so we gave y’all… even less offense!”

  13. Lakers are ranked 26th in offense… so our Coach decides to make it even worse? Ham wants to get that 30th worst offensive rank?

  14. incredibleamadeuscho

I don’t agree with this but DLo will be better for bench units than AR was at point. I think Cam is taking Gabe’s place until he can start.

    PROS:

    – DLo is finally benched. Staff sees what we see.

    – The defensive versatility. Two long aggressive pressure defenders. A lot of switchability. No more zone hopefully.

    – Improved rebounding and overall energy + effort.

    – Forces the team to play with more flow on offense. Read and react.

    – At least there seems to be some identity. Could give us insight into what type of players we may target with an eventual DLo trade. Doesn’t have to be another guard.

    CONS:

    – Two non threats on offense. Spacing can be even worse than the Russ years.

    – If teams load up on Bron who is the secondary ballhandler that can help create a shot?

    – More Cam ballhandling reps.

    – The rotations will be a whole new adventure for Darvin.

    – By benching or not playing DLo his value sinks even lower than it already was.

    QUESTIONS:

    – Does DLo play at all? Having him Gabe and Reaves all off the bench doesn’t seem feasible to me but who knows what Darvin will do.

    – Is the plan to eventually start Gabe? I find it interesting this is happening when Gabe is back. He was an effective starter for the Heat and would not be surprised if the plan is to have him take Cam’s spot once fully back. Will watch for how the rotations play out to get a feel for it.

    – Feels like a last ditch effort pre-trade deadline so if this fails… Then what?

  16. lets_talk_basketball

    AR
    Vando
    TP
    Bron
    AD

That would be a better lineup

  17. TheAsianMamba

Cam and Vando starting together is a crime against basketball

  18. pinktwhite

All in on defense worked last year cause AR was the freethrow merchant 🤷‍♂️

    Run it back

  19. Wondering_Nova

It’s not like they had those lanes anyways. Teams don’t respect our shooters. They have nice percentages but they’re inconsistent. They can go 1/4 one game and 2/3 4/7 the next game. We are a horrible shooting team. Lakers are 3rd to last in made 3’s per game, attempted 3’s per game and we are the 5th worst when it comes to 3 point percentage wise.

I don’t really like the change but the Lakers don’t really have anything to lose

  20. Ill_Celery_7654

I guess this is one way to force Cam and Vando to find a rhythm on offense, but it’s just coming at a terrible time for the team because of the losing streak. Maybe it’ll be a confidence boost for Vando though. I think we’ll eventually see Vando continuing to start and Reddish coming off the bench and Gabe becoming a starter as well.

  21. communist_lover69

I, for one, love this move. Jaxson Hayes is our franchise player, and we need to surround him with all our best shooters off the bench to maximize his skillset.

  22. Pikminious_Thrious

Reddish is at least capable of scoring if he manages to gets under the basket with the ball. Vando legit is the worst scorer I’ve ever seen.

Doesn’t even have bricks for hands, he just doesn’t have hands.

  23. No-Equipment-20

That means we’re starting Reaves, Prince, Vando, Lebron, AD right?…. RIGHT?

  24. ProblematicAndCrazy

I think the calculation here is:

1: LeBron can run the point better than anyone

    2: AD’s middy is back

3: The drop coverage and zone that has been dominating our defense is not the optimal use of our personnel.

I can get behind all of this. But I’m still not optimistic that our offense will be even serviceable

  25. Fresh_Influence_6365

Brace yourselves for some elite, hall of fame level ASS offense.

Vando is averaging .9 points on 18% FG 😂. Do y’all understand how insane that is?

Cam Reddish has been playing more like the guy that couldn’t crack the Knicks rotation than the guy in the IST tournament.

Not feeling this move at all if it ends up being the starting lineup.
