Warriors/Blazers Postgame, Steph, Klay, Brandin Podziemski, Coach Kerr Reactions | Dec 23, 2023

Where is everybody Raymond I go home early for Christmas holiday good to see the uh the real ones are still here uh 38 assists tonight how does uh what does that say about sort of your depth and and how you guys were moving the ball around and getting everyone

Involved yeah it was a it was a beautiful uh offensive game after the the early turnovers you know Portland uh very aggressive defensively and they got a lot of athletes they they bothered us early in the game with their pressure and then once we uh got a little better

Organized and and uh got more under control um we had some great possessions um Chris continues to just um operate the team so smoothly and u a lot of guys are really uh playing at a high level so fun to watch tonight Clay’s been you know playing really well for a little

While now what what have you specifically seen work for him is it a matter of his shots just falling down or has he been changing something shot selection is the biggest thing with Clay um I think over the last five games um he’s just taking better shots

Um and as a result our team is more settled um we just we just feel um like we’re operating uh more efficiently you know he’s coming off screens if he’s open he’s shooting if he’s not he’s moving it and and uh when he does that

Um he’s he’s at his best and we’re at our best when you take into consideration just as a followup what he said about clay but then also step’s always shooting well but everybody seems to be playing well and you said after the Celtics win that it seemed as if that

Win could push you guys and give you a boost headed into this season well the rest of this season and it seems like that it’s been the case what’s the feel I’m always asking about the feel but what’s the feel you know because it seems like everybody feels pretty good

Right now yeah the vibe is good um you know we have a lot of leadership in the locker room and I think you know the guy I want to point out tonight is cavon um you know the last four games or so haven’t gone his way at all um Trace has

Played so well so a lot of lon’s minutes have gone to trace and every single night every day at practice he’s a rock he’s leading um he’s he’s been great on the bench um advising guys uh giving advice during timeouts um cheering them on when they’re playing well um I think

You know the true definition of a leader is someone who leads when things aren’t going well for himself and um that’s what makes Lon so special is um that’s who he is and then you just know that things are going to turn back around like they did tonight um and um you know

He had 11 boards seven assists um I thought he was Fant fantastic tonight and that’s that’s who he’s been um his whole career just totally professional kind of an old soul a a lot of wisdom and um steady as they come so we’re lucky to have Lon see what’s it like you

Know during this win streak uh it’s been most of the spotlights gone on the on the young guys you know how well they’ve played but to see Steph and Clay you know they scored 24 of your 32 points in the third quarter when you had some separation there Chris with his assist

Turnover ratio and Lon the night what does it say when you have the V kind of come in and you know say wait a minute you know we’re still here yeah it just feels like the balance is great this year I think Mike dun Ley did such a

Great job with this roster um we have the the Vets who are you know the core of this team um the guys you just mentioned but you look at um you know Brandon and JK and and Moses um you know these young guys who are are

Contributing so much to our team um the balance feels right um we got a lot of options every night at our disposal as a staff um got a lot of good players so we’re we’re able to survive U injuries like we’ve we’ve done but um the group

Just feels right we’ve got um we got a a a really deep roster and guys who complement each other well cool thank youas merry Christmas everybody you’re already a pretty good passer obviously coming into this but what have you learned the most maybe from working or uh from playing with Chris Paul about

Assist and passing and fing guys yeah I think um me him and Steph are are good at creating advantages for our teammates and just kind of realizing um when I’m out there with Chris a lot of times teams are switching um 1 through five and so um finding Dario and Trace down

Low playing against their guards and then letting them make the plays out of it it’s something that’s been working for us um a great amount and um when Trace is down there and they’re not switching when they have Aiden or or wreath in there just attacking the rim

And like I said yesterday um Trey’s always being an outlet for any of us just kind of got to throw it up to the rim over these uh last five wins what have you noticed about the flow and what what’s changed for you guys I think we

Don’t we don’t care who gets the shot um I think by me and Jonathan uh guarding the two best players every night I think that kind of you know relieved some stress from um clay and stuff and on offense I think me uh JK and Lon try to

Do our best and our part um of getting them open and getting them some easy looks early in the game so you know when it does come to that time um you know they already feel the rhythm coach said a lot of it comes from great leadership but you see clay out

There playing well and then see him kind of you know feeling like he’s playing well what does that do for you guys when you’re out there playing with them because you know he’s been up and down but now he been kind of consistent in a upward trajectory yeah I think he’s you

Know he’s playing well because he’s playing the right way uh I think ever since the LA game you know he’s just had that mindset if two people come to me I know someone’s open and I’ll let my teammates play four on three from there and you know ever since he’s done that

It it makes it easier for you know me and JK to to make shots because you know he draws so much attention and a lot of times we’re just wide open so by Steph and him playing the right way it kind of frees everything up for the rest of the

Guys that are out there that it cool up here Steph you’ve seen uh plenty of times where Clay’s gotten hot and seems like he’s on a particularly hot streak what do you think about what he’s been able to do lately and and maybe what Inspire that started started after the the Phoenix

Game uh competitive spirit and a healthy ego of understanding who you are as a player and responding when things don’t go your way it’s what he’s been what we’ve done for our entire careers what he’s you know shown time after time um you got to make certain adjustments and he’s done

That saying let the game come to him make the easy play um we know he can shoot that’ll never um they’ll never leave him so just the the shots he’s taking I mean tonight he has some some heat checks in third but you know consistently our ball the

Ball’s moving uh he’s he’s finding good looks and that’s the the Klay Thompson we know uh hi Steph um another good win for you guys how big will the test be on Monday when you take on Denver in Denver uh I don’t remember last time we won there

Probably a couple years when last year so we mean obviously defending champs they’ve um you know been playing well I’m probably back to full strength so Marquee games on Christmas going to be a great atmosphere you know we we’ve we’ve been in in that environment before so

Understand what it’s going to be like on the road it’s going to be fun to you know just compete it’s a test that’s the next one on the schedule though too so you kind of uh understand how they play locking on what we need to do try to go get a

Win Steph loon’s not a big scorer historically he only took three shots today but he still makes a huge impact with 11 boards and seven assists when he’s doing those other things what kind of impact does that have on you guys uh whether it’s the regular season game

Or you know playoff runs we’ve had you one that’s his availability and he’s always you know preparing himself to be out there and play physical and you know give us you know that presence in the paint but it gives us possessions it you know he’s he’s a smart basketball player that

Understands how to move the ball how to set great screens and the way our offense runs even if he’s not the one finishing you know he can set up other guys too whe he had do a nice lob to JK some DHL stuff to the guards and timing was was great

So don’t anybody take for gred what loon does that might you know if you know basketball um those little things in the margins really help you you win on a consistent basis uh there was a time where you guys ranked around last in um in transition

Offense do you feel sort of shift in in Pace in the way that you guys are playing I don’t know what the numbers look like uh we talked about it probably maybe a week ago and understood big part of that is not turning the ball over and then not

Fouling because when you foul obviously you slow it down um decrease the amount of possessions in the game so it might I think it feels definitely feels different different I don’t know if it’s showing up in you know maybe we’re like 27th now I don’t

Know hey Steph how good does it feel to have a big man that you can throw lobs to a big man that you can pick and pop with another big man that that’s great and dribble handoffs just a variety of big men here on the team right

Now you want me set up the reminiscent of uh a number 31 they used to play with back in the day uh it’s great though because like I said loon gives us you know a certain look at that position and uh Trace is obviously learning from him where to be and understanding you

Know especially on defense how to be one step ahead but on offense you know it’s a change of pace where it just seems like he’s understanding angles on screens and understand the timing on those those roles and whether it’s a lob or whether it’s a to drop down pass and him getting

You know to the to the basket it implies a lot of pressure to you know defenses especially with the shooting that we have around and the way the ball moves so that’s why he’s been making such a a big impact over the last you know four

Games just out of curiosity as I follow up to that question there was a play between you and Chris Paul and Chris Paul hit you you got a good shot out of it but you made a be line across the court just to make sure that you guys

Dapped up and it was a little bit it seemed from far away I can’t see that well but it seemed like there was a little bit of an exchange there between you to do you remember what was said and what that moment was for you too as the

Question I was trying to remember what play it was uh it was second half for sure CP threw me the wall CP uhhuh and then you be lined across the court he was already in the back court at that point I I got to look I’ll get back to

You on that one okay I do not remember that I made a layup shot yeah I can’t remember oh I do remember uh he told me I needed to hit a couple threes um to kind of hopefully break the game open and he uh I made I

Made one I was the end of the second quarter I made one and um that’s all I said that’s one that’s all I said and I I missed another one try to make him a profit what did they do you guys challenging each other to challenge within a

Challenge we do it all the time um just understanding the momentum of the game sometimes not even making a shot it’s BP trying to take a charge it’s you know how many boards can loon get it’s um you know lobs and transition getting JK and Trace about we talk about

All that type of stuff so know depending on the game whatever it is that it cool absolutely same to y’all clay we pretty much asked everybody about you I just want to ask you about you you’ve been playing well they’ve all had you know great things to

Say about how you’ve been playing but just how do you feel with how you’ve been playing feel like I’ve been playing really good and I would like to continue this momentum on Christmas but uh yeah I feel like I can still be better uh Steve’s talked a bit about just your

Your shot selection that there’s kind of been a a little bit of a turning point the past couple weeks just and you’ve seen taking better shots what has been your focus with that and how have you you know been able to improve that well I feel like every time I shoot the

Ball it’s a good shot and uh I don’t know they just seem to be going in at a higher frequency these last five six games but I’m not going to let someone tell me after all these years what I feel like I could make every shot not every shot any shot any shot

And you know the mentality of a shooter they always tell you Shooters have short memory so for you to be able to lead by that example and have so many young guys on the team what do you think that does for them cuz I’m sure it has an impact

Well I also have a long memory too of oh yeah 10 years and uh actually 13 now and uh even before that College High School the uh best part of my game has usually been my ability to score ability to shoot I’m not just a shooter though

That’s funny when people say that you don’t uh score the rim score the mid-range floaters but I hope you know with the young guys on our team they just they see me when they not on the main floor see me working on all my different moves and different spots on the floor every

Day so shouldn’t come to surprise when uh it happens on the court it does feel good but I work on different types of shot every single day uh clay um you mentioned that team’s kind of gotten on a role I think the last two games you guys have played

Really really well how much of this will be a test though for Denver coming up on Monday when you’re playing in their Arena nationally televised audience on Christmas it’ be a great time I mean they’re the defending champs you know how well they play at home and we on

Nice win streak and we would like this continue so something’s got to give and I think we’ll give them a great game and I think we have the ability to come out with the win and uh it’ll be fun though to see where we’re at against you know the defending

Champs oh thank you cool nice my man you got a question no

  1. Since Draymond suspension the whole team play with more chemistry and freedom. Young guys seems more expressive and passionate.
Reading between the leaves it seems a lot of guys were close to Jordan Poole. So that punch definitely killed team morale as long as Draymond is around. I have no doubt given Wiggins 9-5 clock in clock out attitude this season maybe lack of trust for the team as Poole was his best friend on the team.
Looking at Draymond's numerous podcasts and press conferences. Green's ego gets in the way of himself and the team. He is unwilling to change or sacrifice anything, he refuses to check his emotion during games. however he sees himself as the gatekeeper of the team and is first to yell and try to check team-mates on the team.
I hope Steph sees this and the team moves away from Draymond and let the young guys shine.

  2. draymond is the answer…as long as he isnt around, not even in the arena, they will keep winning. this has been happening also last season

  3. It’s time. I honestly think Dray should shift towards guesting more on inside the nba. There’s no way he hasn’t noticed the recent solar flare of cohesion and creativity with this new motley crew. Be like Iggy, Dray, acknowledge the sands of time and lead in other ways.

  4. This is a good time for Draymond to realize: to get the ultimate prize games have to be won, excellence has to be consistent. Ditto with focus. Plus a refusal to let referees' biased calls and physical or verbal goading from opposition players or fans be bothersome. GSW's focus on what to do to win one game at a time is reaping dividends

  5. Warriors don't need Green. The young guns are playing well together with the vets both on offense and defense.
