Who has been the most surprising good signing for the Mavs. And why is it Dante Exum?

We’ve had a few surprisingly. Grant showed out in the first few games, then DJJ had a nice streak. Now it’s Exum.

Pretty happy with the off-season, I would say it was pretty much as good as we could have hoped for. Downsides include Maxi regressing as well as Green and Hardy somehow.

  2. He’s a great fit. He gives us more ball handling and plays good defense. He’s very quick. He can drive and he’s looking like a pretty good shooter. I think I may be a bit too high on him really, he’s probably not quite as good as I think he is. but he’s killing the eye test right now. Love the way he plays.

His stats are pretty good too. in 8 games as a starter he’s averaging 16/4/4 on 62/53/79 splits.

  3. I am glad to see him playing well. From a hyped draft pick who suffered pretty serious injuries to a solid contributor back in the NBA, it is awesome to see. He reminds me a lot of Shaun Livingston in many ways.

Good/excellent pickup and I am glad he is on the mavs.

Followed him through the Utah years. What’s been surprising is just how reliable he’s been.

He used to be a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Sometimes really sloppy under the rim. Too fast for his own good. Not the most secure with the ball.

Now he is just so settled and mature. The game comes to him naturally. He makes positive plays on both ends, on ball and off.

I think his efficiency right now is a sign of that. Just taking smart shots when they come to him. Being a pass first guard he’s almost too selective.

So happy for him and the Mavs.

I thought he would be a huge upgrade over the Frank Ntilikina spot.

I never thought he would be a starting caliber guard

So happy we have him locked up for next year as well!

  6. this won’t be a popular take, but seeing how exum fits in, i wouldn’t mind seeing kyrie get traded for a good, tall wing (and perhaps a decent backup pg).

i’m not sure what the numbers say about luka + kyrie combo, but just from watching them it seems they both have to adjust to each other a bit too much, it doesn’t look as if there’s much synergy between them. they’re both great individually, but it’s odd seeing them just stand and wait for what who ever’s got the ball is going to do with it. exum seems a much better fit.

although having two great individual players might be an advantage in the playoffs. i don’t think it’s realistic kyrie gets traded anyway, so hopefully we will see how it works out in the pos and nico can make a more informed decision after the season.

however, if there was an opportunity to trade him for a quality wing earlier, i wouldn’t mind that. we need better defense and rebounding

And Exum just shows you how important it is to have a well rounded All-around player who is pretty good at everything. He just plays so mature that I trust Exum all the time to make to high % IQ play all the time. Hardy f.e. Will maybe never really fill that shoes. 👠
