Raptors Blow BIG Lead In TERRIBLE Loss | Toronto Raptors vs Utah Jazz Recap

On to work against OG great defense by Og here’s Barnes now driving attacking with the left 30 large for Scotty B it was beginning to look a lot like Christmas until it wasn’t the Raptors blow a 17-point lead in the second half against the Utah Jazz getting outscored

41-21 in the fourth quarter to lose their eighth game in 10 contests heading into the holiday break it is demoralizing it should should be demoralizing because it was a second half you know we did it in the first half and then we we followed the game

Plan and uh we did good job defensively kept them to 55 points and scored 71 like for me what happens there at a halftime for us not to be able to sustain that in the second half and excuse cannot be it’s it’s a backto back

And none of that this is NBA like we know the schedule how schedule Works in this league and uh it has to be our mentality that we put winning and we put uh Team always in the first place the Raptors got out to a hot start once

Again winning the first quarter for the first time in back-to-back games since November and that was all thanks to Scotty Barnes who was on fire in that first quarter Barnes put up 13 points in the first seven minutes of the game he finished the first half with 24 points

Six rebounds and one block along with four made threes nearly tying his career high for threes made in just two quarters in fact the Raptors as a whole enjoyed a good shooting night especially in the first half where they finished N9 of 19 from three with ogan anobi

Chipping in with 14 points and two threes to help the Raptors to a 16-point halftime lead in the second half Utah kept chipping and chipping away meanwhile the Raptors who looked like dynamite in the first half struggled and slowed down offensively in the second half meanwhile their defense failed them

Again allowing the Jazz to hit 93 in the second half and dropped 71 points including 23 from Jordan Clarkson you know we had 23 assists in the first half and uh uh we talked about that we need to continue moving the ball and and playing together and the way we started

That third quarter just gave them life you know they ended up having uh eight points in transition it was zero points in the first half I think that that they gave them gave them some life they start feeling well they start making shots and

Uh we did not make our shots uh the the way we did in the first half um you know we made nine threes in the first half only four in the second and we did not do good enough job of uh of uh guarding in the fourth quarter that that allowed

Them 41 points there the Raptors blew the lead against an easy opponent and head into the Christmas break with a disastrous loss on their minds that being said Scotty Barnes tied up his career-high 32 points and notched 14 rebounds and seven assists in the loss but he’s still trying trying to keep

Positive through this down stretch be happy that I’m playing basketball you know I’m grateful every day that I wake up and be able to go out there and play NBA basketball you know it’s the it’s the best even coming off last night’s loss you know wake up happy that you

About to play another game I love those back to backs being able to play another game right after another I just love basketball um so you I’m I’m happy to play the game basketball and be able to play with our guys so so I’m I’m I’m excited every practice every every game

I look forward to it now post game questions loomed about lineup changes and whether coach rakovich given the fact that this team is two and eight in their last 10 games will be able to make some kind of drastic change to the starting lineup and tweak their rotation

We’re looking at like but like always when we talk about it like uh what how why who you know those are the questions like and how all of that affects everybody else sure we can mix up rotations we we’re mixing up during the game and uh you know it’s it’s not like

We have Steph Curry sitting on the bench and I going to put him in there I’m I’m not keeping him on on on the court you know it’s it’s constantly we’re looking at we’re trying to to get some chemistry we’re seeing some improvements like we

Did it first half we did first half you know why we didn’t do second half that’s the question for me it’s not really about lineups it’s like the same people were on the court in the second half as well but we were completely different the way we played in the second half so

Where do the Raptors go from here they’re now seven games under 500 and one game back of the final playin spot in the East they play nine of their next 10 games on the road including an 11-day West Coast road trip to start January and given the fact that the Raptors are

3 and9 on the road to start this season that’s going to be a tough stretch now for the film room we have to break down how the Raptors lost that lead in the fourth quarter so one more time before the holiday season let’s go to the film

Room I won’t take up too much of your time I just want to break down why the Raptors got into this mess it is Christmas Eve so I want you guys to enjoy your Christmas and your holidays because yeah that Raptor’s game especially the second half absolutely

Sucked uh it was a combination of defensive mlap uh offensive stagnation that led to the Raptors losing um in a bad fashion like terrible fashion so let’s talk about the defensive side of the ball because I think the offense was pretty clear the Raptors got away from

Moving the ball a lot more they were missing their shots and ultimately I thought they got really stagnant they settled into way too many shots especially in that fourth quarter when the Jazz were making their big run uh on the defensive side of the ball it was

Where they weren’t cleaning things up at all and Utah got out and they scored 71 points in that second half so that’s how they won that game I thought Scotty struggle tonight against Lowry Markin and just unable to kind of track him in these off ball movements he gets caught

On the Alley here to start the fourth quarter and then in a fast break type situation pseudo transition Jordan Clarkson draws the help to Chris Dunn for three again I think this is fine in theory you’re technically helping off of Chris Dunn who’s not a good career

Shooter but at the same time there was no commitment to even try to close out that’s just like laxidasical effort if you will on the defensive end and now the lead is eight time out the Jazz are in transition and there is communication on who picks up who that leaves Jordan

Clarkson wide open in the corner he misses the shot but the Raptors are too slow to pick up the rebound they Jazz get the offensive rebound and that is Walker Kessler who makes them pay it is now a six-point game just atto play here the Raptors uh kind of scramble on a

Bunch of these switches Gary Trenton Jr gets caught on the Walker Kessler screen uh precious Chua isn’t there to step up on the screen I either and that leads to a wideopen shot for Jordan Clarkson for a team that was trying to Pride itself on defending one-on-one more often they

Are sending tons of nail help uh in this game and while I understand Jordan Clarkson was doing well uh at the end of the day it made them pay CR Chris Dunn here once again with another three in the fourth quarter play is just weak point of attack defense from Dennis

Schroeder he is giving so much space to Chris Dunn and that is a NE sometimes you don’t want to give them that much space because it gives him a driving lane so now Chris Dunn is able to create separation and precious is forced to come over and help the lob is

Right there to Walker Kesler turnovers were a killer and quick shots really led to a couple transition plays for the Jazz in this one this play I just really don’t understand from OG again he’s sending tons of nail help but you got to understand your personnel who you’re facing Jordan Clarkson is absolutely

Cooking you and so you’re helping off of him and trying to double team Chris Dunn in the post Dunn just makes a nice play to Jordan Clarkson wide open three that’s just way too much help and yes Clarkson misses the shot but because OG is it flew by on that closeout he’s

There for the offensive Rebound in the tippen transition once again off of a quick shot for the Raptors this time Clarkson sends it to Markin in and now the Jazz are fully in Rhythm they are running they are playing hard they are are cutting hard you’ve got them back in

The ball game here they feel like they can win so with that being said L marinin one on1 against Pascal cakam in the post nice little fadeaway jump shot watch the weak side help uh with Pascal and OG in this sequence so everybody is so focused on The Cutting actions on the

Strong side of the ball trying to avoid Clarkson try and avoid kastler try to avoid marinin marinin just loops around and they actually Pascal and OG fall asleep on this play and they miscommunicate the switch it leads to a wideopen shot for marinan who has been absolutely cooking up until this point

And once again in transition they don’t pick up Walker Kesler he is wide open in the post they find him there that means the defense tags in and sags in Chris Dunn and Jordan Clarkson relocates to a wideopen three and now the Jazz are up 10 in the fourth quarter after being

Down 13 points to start a 23o swing ladies and gentlemen that is how the Raptors lost that game and you know there was a lot of discussion about you know postgame comments from dark or yakovich there were you know a discussion about maybe lineup changes starting lineup changes and while I do

Agree that maybe to a certain extent those could help this team you know the the bench lineup especially in that fourth quarter with Scotty Barnes really struggled L to kind of create things offensively it led to some transition opportunities for Utah and Utah was able to Feast off of those transition

Opportunities that got got them back into the game but ultimately it doesn’t it’s it just like yes you can change that right and maybe the Raptors end up winning this game maybe you can yeah you can argue that but the thing is they’re also 2 and8 in their last 10 they

Haven’t had a good win and and what I mean by good win is like an impressive win outside of the Suns in November they haven’t had an impressive win in December the Hawks game that they won was not impressive if they won both that would have been impressive they beat the

Hornets a brutally injured Hornets team sure okay neither of those wins are impressive they have been really really bad they’ve been playing some of their worst basketball in December uh and it’s tough to watch man to be honest with you it’s pretty tough to watch and I I’m

Very curious to see what comes next for this Raptors team because they like I said they are going on a long road trip the Raptors have not been good on the road this season maybe they can turn that around at West but for the most part there’s I

Mean things could get ugly really quickly let me just say that um and I wonder how much longer we we kind of see this iteration of the team if you will but it is the Christmas season I imagine no trades are going to be happening on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve that

Would be wild and chaotic and very very unlike the Toronto Raptors to operate that way so we’ll probably be dealing with that in the new year with that being said ladies and gentlemen thank you very much for tapping in I hope you guys have a happy holidays Merry

Christmas if you guys celebrate happy New Year celebrate responsibly and uh we’ll see you guys later thank you so much take care bye-bye

The Toronto Raptors were up by as much as 17 points in this game but within 10 minutes in the 2nd half, that lead was erased. The Utah Jazz clawed back and beat the Raptors despite Scottie Barnes tying a career-high 32 points, nabbing 14 rebounds and dishing out 7 assists.

  1. If I’m Gary I’m cutting as soon as the season is over. Dude is 24 and should be a priority. He’s gunna come drop 40 on our heads as a starter.
