Currently Rudy Gobert is favored at -110 to win DPOY while Davis is at +550. This is honestly ridiculous. Gobert is great defender but AD is much much more versatile defensively and locks the paint down. If he doesn’t play we get blown out by any team and that’s just proof of it.
Gobert also has 3 DPOYS already and they’d rather give him a fourth than AD his first 🤦♂️

Keep in mind he’s doing this while being amazing offensively and without a center along him to provide margin of error (Gobert has KAT, Giannis has Lopez, JJJ had Adams ), something that should be considered but never does
Media narratives. They’ve always preferred elite shot blockers who can really only contest at the rim over great shot blockers that can guard literally everywhere all the time. Also there’s a major media bias against AD thanks to idiots like Screamin’ A Smith and Charles Barkley constantly roasting him

For this year, Minnesota just has better defensive players. Our defensive guys are Vando, Reddish, Prince(barely), Vincent(supposed to) and Lebron sometimes. Minnesota has Ant, Mcdaniels, NAW, troy brown, kyle anderson and naz. Conley is also smart defender and there arent many defensive liabilities on team which maximize Gobert’s defense.

I disagree with the media narrative reason. The Wolves are playing their best basketball in franchise history similar to what KG did and they currently have the best record in the *league* and also the 2nd best record in their last 10.
The media have been trying to push Luka for MVP since he was drafted, just like they wish Gobert don’t get it due to the concept of voter fatigue for Gobert, but if your team ain’t good enough to make the playoffs then you ain’t getting nothing. The last statement was not in reference to AD.
With regards to JJJ he didn’t deserve the award but his team was balling out last year and he was getting as many blocks per game while also playing more games (but less minutes) than AD.
I think some of it has to do with some of the advance stats. I’m not really sure how they calculate it or it’s probably misleading but for some reason, AD is not very high on it.

AD’s defense is very much underrated. He might be the best defender in the league right now and I don’t even mean just his stats. Overall his impact on the defensive side of floor is amazing.
Probably because people use him shooting to talk about his defense. Haha Why wouldn’t you use any number of pictures with him defending?
Minny is 22-6 and defense is the primary reason they have that record.
Record narrative plays a huge part. If the Lakers were 22-6, you can bet AD would be the front runner.
What’s crazy to me is AD could retire without winning DPOY, when the past few years have all been won by people who are WORSE defensively than AD.
AD is one of the most *complete* players to ever play the game. It absolutely suck that narratives surrounding him don’t address that mainly because of talking heads and, sadly, our own fanbase.
Because the voters go by the larger media narrative. Look how many articles are being written about twolves defense. None are being written about Anthony Davis. Happened with JJJ last year.
