  1. the Schroder/Poeltl combo is a big part of our offense and it hasn’t been good this past month.

The first month of the season the synergy was really good.

I actually believe he’s perfectly fine on offence, and just needs to reign in his usage by focusing on setting up and running the offence rather than getting his own.

The real issue for him has been on the defensive end. If you have not done so (and it will be painful so I understand if you don’t want to subject yourself to this) try just watching Dennis on defence, throughout an entire defensive posession.

His off-ball defence is SPECTACULARLY bad.

    – he very often is out of position because he’s ball watching, resulting either in him getting back cut, or when the ball swings to his man he’s out of position because he has floated into the middle of nowhere watching the ball and not his man

    – he has a very poor understanding of defensive angles and positions himself poorly to defend. his man very often is able to set him up physicall by moving him off ball into position where once they catch they can easily get to the rim

    – he seems to have no idea how to defend screen and roll. throughout this run of losing it is really really apparent teams have been picking on him in high PnR and it’s evident why – he does not know how to defend it. He either sags WAY off and goes under guys he shouldn’t (Trae Young) or he seems to call for switches on purpose leaving him mismatched against centres (Embiid, Markannen) when he doesn’t actually have to, he just needs to learn to fight through adn over screens more effectively.

bringing him off the bench as a 6th man to run the 2nd unit and occasionally play with the starters will benefit not only him but the team IMO. It is the role he is so used to in his entire career and the bench could use some help and structure, Gary is better suited as a starter
