🐺 Timberwolves Survive Sacramento Kings Late Run, Win 110-98 at G1C
Surise team talking about bigger sample sign told me first time in franch history the leaders in the west um I think it’s starting to hit home a little bit for a lot of us I think we um we always you know felt like we were a team that could compete every
Night against anybody and win every night um but now we’ve we’ve won a whole bunch of different ways U we’ve learned how to win learned how to come back late in games we’ve learn how to fight you know kind of in the mud a little bit defensively and win games and and we
Take a step back and look at it like hey we you know that’s the recipe for Success later in the season if we continue to grow um guys continue to learn from from what we’ve done so far we could we could be a team that can content I wonder defensively all those
Gr and grind teams you had that were so good on that end does anything compareed to the length the speed the size of this group tonight I think the average 118 for the year 98 guys are getting to the rim think they beat their guy and they’re passing out because it’s just
Too much is this the best defensive team you um it’s it’s definitely one of them it’s it’s a unique one for sure I think the Memphis years we’ve had some some dogs out there but um the guys we have as a whole you know one through 15 we’ve
Got size length athleticism and high IQ on the end of the floor um so it’s fun it’s a lot of fun to see you know just scramble around sometimes and guys are just making individual plays after individual play to make up for somebody else and um you know I haven’t been on
Too many teams that can do that you know towards the end the Kings I think they had like a 214 run just as you said you know you guys you know sped up the defense uh that’s pretty much one of those ways that you’all been learning
How to you know stay in the game finish it off yeah um you know teams have made runs like that on us this year and and in the past we’ve had trouble closing out games like that I think we you know we were liable to lose that kind of game
Last year and um you’re seeing a bunch of growth from a lot of our younger guys you know ant and Jaden uh in particular making plays down the stretch on both ends of the floor to kind of seal games and and the the Panic meter doesn’t kind
Of set in for us anymore I think guys you know look at the scoreboard and say all right you know calm down we’ll be all right let’s get into something good and and and you know execute and I think we’ve been able to do that tonight and
It helped out I guess a king team that was you know they can score in bunches and and uh and come back and win any game that a little bit of a get back you know with them coming in U and beating you guys for the first time on your home
Floor um well yeah I mean you always want to you know get a get payback when somebody beats you but I don’t think we were think about it too much um they’re a team that we want to compete against they’re going to be a team we’re going
Have to face at some point down the line and um they’re a very really good you know team high high level uh playoff team and um you know we have to to learn from playing against them and tonight was a good win uh for us on the road
This my last question also have McDaniel on boxing you know the game uh that seemed to work out well for yall too as far as the defensive you talk a little bit about yeah um you know Jayden’s one of the best defenders in the league and
It’s not even a question um he guards the best player every single night um doesn’t matter he doesn’t complain he he you know runs and works his butt off every night and tonight was the night we he had the task of guard in Fox and I
Fox still did what he does but um you know I thought Jayden did a great job of just making life tough you know just making it tough on him using his length and size I think he got a block at the end of the end of the game and they were
Coming back like plays like that um still fighting in plays is who he is and just proud of him his development on that end and on offensive end as well Mike you guys have talked about the play last year and how you felt pretty good last against Denver um I know it’s early
But as you because you’ve seen all these intending teams when you see a game like tonight that way you close out without Carl way you call you start seeing how the substance of what is getting built here is get yeah yeah it does you know and we we
Had a little bit of sample size him lash without last year stretch before the playoffs help for moments like this and just seeing how many different different guys we can throw in different lineups um for playoff purposes and matchup purposes you’re going to need have you
Know some games some guys might not play and other guys are going to shine and um throw cat in there and now you’re talking he’s a mismatch problem you know mostly every night and um and can we utilize our bigs in certain ways can we utilize him in certain ways so um it
Just makes us you know dynamic and you know we’re excited to you know learn as we go and hopefully it all comes together at the right moment thanks for

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — It was basically the same old story for the Sacramento Kings: struggles on the backend of back-to-back games in the NBA and issues with teams that pose size, length and extreme physicality.
The Minnesota Timberwolves exhibit all those qualities and they used them to howl down the Kings 110-98 at Golden 1 Center on Dec. 23. The Kings lost their second game in as many as 4 nights and ended their 6-game homestand with a 4-2 record.
De’Aaron Fox had 27 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, and two steals for the Kings (17-11, 11-5 at G1C) in 39 minutes. Fox did all his offensive damage in the first 3 quarters, uncharacteristically failing to score 1 single point in the final frame.
In the 144-119 loss to the Boston Celtics on Dec. 20, Kings head coach Mike Brown shrugged off the fact that Fox wasn’t at full capacity offensively in the third quarter where he only scored 3 points after scoring 26 in the first half.
Celtics guard Jrue Holiday and Derrick White swarmed Fox in the third quarter, preventing him from having a great scoring night on his birthday. The Timberwolves used another method to slow Fox – who wasn’t in denial – from touching the paint in the 4th quarter.
“They just have length. Obviously, they have Rudy Gobert at the rim so, you know, they try to force me to some tough shots,” Fox said. “They’re long and athletic so they try to get you off the line and obviously having Rudy back there kind of makes you think twice about getting to the rim and there are a lot of lateral contests and they are very active.”
Keegan Murray had 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 block while Domantas Sabonis recorded another triple double in the form of 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in 39 minutes. Four Kings players played 30 or more minutes.
Super reserve Malik Monk was sidelined with irritation in his right foot.
“We miss him a lot. Malik Monk generates a lot of offense for us,” Brown said. “I thought in the first half, we struggled a little bit offensively because our looks weren’t as easy because Malik is a guy that can go get it off the dribble.”
Anthony Edwards had 34 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists, 1 steal, and 1 blocked shot for the Timberwolves (22-6, 10-5 on the road). Gobert added 21 points, 17 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocked shots. Mike Conley had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and two steals.
The Timberwolves had 66 points in the paint to the Kings’ 52 and they outran Sacramento, producing 28 fastbreak points to the Kings’ 5-point effort. Sacramento is 0-5 this season when scoring less than 100 points.
Karl-Anthony Towns missed the game due against the Kings after he suffered a left knee injury against the Los Angeles Lakers on Dec. 21. Both teams entered the game winning four of their last five games.
Jaden McDaniels, who had the defensive assignment of guarding Fox, had 20 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assists, and 4 steals for Minnesota.
“I think we always felt like we were a team that can compete every night against anybody and win every night, but now we’ve won a whole bunch of different ways,” Conley said. “We’ve learned how to win, learned how to come back late in games, we’ve learned how to fight, kind of in the mud a little bit defensively and win games. We take a step back and look at it.”
The Kings played their final game of the year in G1C and will start a 3-game road trip beginning with the Portland Trail Blazers on Dec. 26. They return to Sacramento for a back-to-back against the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 2 and Orlando Magic on Jan. 3.
