So after making this video I got to thinking “Surely Lillard is the teammate that Giannis can score more of, and vice-versa”, meaning the teammate that either Giannis assists and that teammates gets a bucket, or vice-versa.
So I decided to check the number of buckets in which Giannis assisted or got assisted by each player, and I decided to do that for Middleton and Jrue (both since 2020).
For ease, I’m calling these plays GXB, for Giannis X buckets just to make it easier to reference. I also only tracked regular season.
As you can see, Dame has by far the biggest average even compared to Khris. Furthermore, we can also see that throughout the years, the numbers for Khris/Jrue increase (except when Khris got injured in 2022), meaning more chemistry = more buckets for each other.
Futhermore, having Dame on the floor has allowed an easier time for Khris/Giannis to operate their two man game since the defense has to worry about another amazing shooter on the floor.
Now for the fun part, in Jrue’s whole tenure with the Bucks, he only had a game with GXB over 6 a total of 4 times, with 2 of them coming in his last year. This year, Dame/Giannis already have matched that.
Oh and in the first 8 games, Giannis and Dame had 15 GXB. In the last 4 games, they have 18.
So the amazing part is that while this Bucks offense is already scariest, it can get a whole lot scarier.
