Luka Doncic’s MVP campaign & Ja Morant is ‘MUST-SEE TV’ 🍿 – Austin Rivers | SportsCenter

To the association we go do you believe in magic you probably do when that guy is on the floor the Dallas Mavs Are Back In Action tonight against the Cavs now the last time we saw the Mavs Luca magic was in full effect the dawn dropped 50

Points and dis shout 15 assists on the Phoenix Suns that’s certainly a gift for Christmas nights what’s more even more of a gift Luca has been on an absolute tear over the last month averaging over 37 points per game just look at some of these recent game totals 41 against

Rockets 40 against the Jazz and 40 against the Trailblazers his lowest point total in this stretch just a mere 28 points and then of course that 50-point game against the Suns on Christmas Day NBA analyst Austin Rivers joins us now to talk a little bit more about the dawn so Luke is obviously

Putting up MVP numbers but what exactly will it take for him to actually win MVP this season for me it’s got to be his team record uh when you look at Luca’s body of work there’s not a lot of holes in his you know in anything that he’s

Putting together right now he’s one of the best basketball players in the NBA and he has been since he stepped foot in the NBA he’s been dominant Brookie year we talk about Premier perimeter players in the NBA right now he’s at the top of my list right behind him my sh who also

Should be in that mvp conversation but when we talk about MVPs there’s always one common denominator and that that they’re always the top of the NBA in terms of team record you talk about jol embiid Nicole yage Giannis these guys are always two of them are champions the

Other one’s a guy who’s always a first second or third seed in his respected conference so I think if we’re talking Luca realistically winning an MVP because he’s putting up the numbers uh he has to win more games uh yeah that makes sense you mentioned he’s putting

Up the numbers he’s averaged 37.6 points 11.4 assists and 9.2 rebounds in 12 games since the end season tournament ended yeah that’s a bad man all right let’s get to another player who’s on a tear you can call him a bad man that’s the Grizzlies John Morant four games

Back since his suspension the first one couldn’t have gone any better 34 points and that game winning buzzer beater that we talked about yesterday against the Pelicans now the scoring it did take a bit of a dip in jaw’s home debut game against the Pacers as he only scored 20

But Durant was able to dish out eight assists as the Grizzlies won by 13 in front of that Memphis crowd back on the road in Atlanta Mor put up a number another 30-point game and added 11 assists for his first double double of the season the grizli picked up another

Win marking their longest streak of the season and last night job scored 31 points as the Grizzlies won in OT J has scored 115 points this season that’s the third most through a players first four games of the season in Grizzly’s history he’s trailing himself so the Grizzlies

Are currently in 13th Place in the west at 10 to 19 but they have not lost with jaw back in the lineup so Austin how dangerous is this Memphis team now that they got their guy back they’re dangerous I mean we talk about about their past they they’ve had

Major success this is a team that we talked about in contention when you talked about the Western Conference when jaw’s there you could see the energy is different besides the first game and hitting the game-winning shot you know the the most impressive thing I love with Desmond Bane telling him to go get

The ball in his first game they know he’s the guy he is the guy and you can see this team has a different feel and step about him they are in a hole they came out to a slow start you know but now they listen they’re not that many

Games back and this is a team that can get to the playoffs and be a problem they’re young they’re athletic and John Moran is must see TV man you put him on the court I’m so glad he’s playing so we can talk about him now in the positive

Light because he’s a good guy and a better player uh it they’re dangerous in short yeah yeah for sure we’ve been certainly waiting for them to make some uh noise in the playoffs I should say jaw has averaged 28.8 points eight and a half assists and 5.3 rebounds in four

Games this season Austin great seeing you thank you always developing story here and it concerns the defending NBA champions the Denver Nuggets their forward Aaron Gordon out indefinitely after suffering La lacerations to his face in hand from a dog bite on Christmas the team says Gordon’s in good condition but will remain sidelined

While he Recovers

Austin Rivers joins SportsCenter to speak on what criteria Luka Doncic needs to satisfy in order to be considered a serious NBA MVP candidate and Ja Morant willing the Memphis Grizzlies to an undefeated 4-0 record since his return.

  1. Dallasite here. I’m ready for a break from the Embiid/Jokic/Giannis MVP trifecta, and Luka is just the guy to do that. This can be his year, but I think it’ll only happen if he can get the Mavs to a 4 seed (minimum.) I hope he pulls it off 💙

  2. On Christmas, Luka joined Anthony Davis as the only two players in NBA history to have a game where they recorded at least 4 Steals and at least 3 Blocks while scoring at least 50 Points!

And in the same game Luka also joined Harden being the only two players to score at least 50 Points while having at least 15 Assists in the game.

And it was only the 13th game in NBA history where a player has scored at least 50 Points while having at least 7 Stocks (Steals and Blocks combined = Stocks).

  3. The lack of media coverage Embiid is getting is crazy. "What that man's doing is NOT REAL!" Airplane shortys voice 😂

  4. Yes, Luka is a real MVP candidate and should be leading. Unlike Embiid who ducks good teams and flops his way to 40pts, at least Luka plays with some integrity to his game, and enjoys playing against the best. Jokic/Westbrook already won MVPs by putting up big numbers on a 4-6 seed so Luks should get the same consideration at least.

  5. Why do they hold Luka to a higher standard with this "your team has to be one of the top seeds" narrative? Jokic won MVP a couple years ago when Den finished 6th in the West. Curry finished 3rd in voting when the Warriors came in 10th place.

  6. 😂 just in the kitchen cooking and drinking some wine and on first glance I say “what is Richard wearing” 😂

  7. Im french’ 👏🏽give Luka Mvp All Day👏🏽 Ja he’s no Professionnal 😡play gangster IDIOTS JA😡No RESPECT FOR YOU JA.👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽

  8. How about the team is always hurt? 3 starters are injured (kyrie, Josh and Lively just back last game including Kleber) We still looking for the team recod?

  9. Heres my opinion, LUKA is MVP. Don't take my word or the statistics for it, WATCH THE GAMES. Theres no way you cant watch him drop 50 points and 15 assists with 4 steals and 3 Blocks and tell me hes not most valuable to his team.

Its not just the scoring its his assists and rebounds too, hes up there with Jokic as best passer in the league.

  10. They gave to Embid when he didn't have better stats and metrics combined, then Joker, so there is definitely precedence to do this even though Embid has better numbers than anyone. Also, Westbrook proved that the team record is a lie as well now.

  11. What are you talking about the Western conference finals its not a lot of young player taking their team to the wcf¿

  12. The percent of black players in the NBA is 70 percent, but the 2 best players are white, the Joker, and Luca

  13. Luka deserves this year, he is healthy all year and very consistent, but if Jokic wins that will be fine too

  14. So if we're talking Luka he need his team to be at least top 3 even tho his balling but if the other players who win previous MVPs even tho they're team are not top 3-5 still gets the credits and win MVP but Luka is not because his team can't win without him dropping 50pts. 🤡 The unfairness towards Luka as if they forgot his doing this as such a young age compared to other players who recently wins MVPs in previous years recently

  15. How the hell yall be saying Luka gotta get the Mavs to finish top 3 in the West in order to be considered MVP? Jokic got his 2nd MVP when the Nuggets finished 6th in the West in 22' on 27/13/7, with Luka getting the Mavs to 4th in the West on 28/8/9, by which time Jokic and the Nuggets had been eliminated in 1st round, and then 4 days later, Luka blows out the 64-18 Suns in a Game 7 of the WCSF.

Media heads be slurping on the anti-Luka Kool Aid nice and slow.

  16. How could he win more games with that team, it's a miracle already that they are winning 😊 give him the mvp

  17. I like how Luka is able to play the game the way he does. He literally makes it look easy. Scoring 30, 40 and 50 points, dropping dimes, flashy plays and getting triple doubles before the second half even begins.
Like if anyone tried to play his way, you wouldn’t have to be super athletic to do it either. Basketball is full of potential ways to score, with team work, individual movement, strategy and so forth. And Luka to me is like the Larry Bird of today’s game. But he is Luka, and I think there will only be one Luka, just as there was and will only be one Larry Bird.
