Lakers have to give up to get a player like this or even what the trade value of their current trade assets are which is really the most important part of being able to make a big trade happen and at this point I think it’s widely agreed upon that D’Angelo Russell would

Have to be the most likely player to be traded and really for a number of different reasons with the main one being his potentially expiring contract if you are not aware he is not guaranteed to be under contract Beyond this season the player option on his contract will allow him to decide what

He wants to do though he did help the Lakers out big by waving his no trade clause which I think fans fail to appreciate but again it definitely would take more than DLo to pull off a big trade I’m I mean with many fans claiming

That he’s not a good player then why do they think they should be able to get an All-Star level player in return for him it simply won’t happen and with that in mind they will almost certainly have to include a young player draft compensation and maybe even a key role

Player like Austin Reeves with him to make a big trade happen which would definitely be controversial now it’s not even a guarantee that they will make a trade let alone a big trade but it does appear to be trending in that direction and with that being said we are going to

Further Ado let’s get back to today’s topic and we’ll Begin by talking talking about the trade value of D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reeves and like I referred to before Dow he does happen to be on a potentially expiring contract again he will have control over whether

Or not he opts into that contract and that alone can make a team worried about trading for him a general manager obviously prefers to have control over a player’s contract and especially if we’re talking about a new addition to their team I mean the only way a

Player’s contract can have a lower value would be if we’re talking about a player that’s simply not worth their long-term contract aka the r Westbrook situation they dealt with only about a year ago now thankfully we’re not dealing with that year but D’s contract does in fact hurt his trade value he’s only

Guaranteed to be under contract through this season and then the team trading for him has no control over whether or not he comes back obviously making it a pretty big risk by trading for him but then the next part of that would have to be the production they’re trading for

And while a lot of people like tag like elos having a horrible year he’s actually playing above his contract value in my opinion now he definitely is going through a a bit of a rough patch right now but I don’t know how you could be angry at a guy averaging over 15

Points over six assists shooting 47% from the field and 38% from three that’s only making about 17 million barely even a third of a Max contract and in that regard the Lakers will benefit from his contract even if you want to argue that he’s not playing above it then he’s

Certainly playing at the level but he’s being paid and that should help a team feel like they’re getting equal value in return for his contract but even with that in mind I still don’t believe they he’s got a whole lot of trade value again the only thing a team will have to

Point to here is that he’s under an expiring contract and with DLo being far from being a Cornerstone player it’s difficult to know how he’ll fit on your team and I think that’s another thing that could hurt his trade value DLo might not be old at only 27 but he’s no

Longer a fit for a rebuilding team he’s kind of in that awkward age where a rebuilding team doesn’t want him but then a contending team might not view him as a long-term piece either in my opinion they cannot hope to get anywhere close to an All-Star level player in

Return for yo alone I think the most they could get for him would be either another expiring contract with similar production or a role player with less production that’s on a longer term contract I think a good example of that would be Gary Trent Jr now it’s

Obviously not a one for one kind of trade here but I would put Gary Trent’s value slightly below D’s current value Gary Trent might not be putting up the same numbers but he is the younger player here and that can be valuable for a team looking for a long-term fit but

Then if they’re looking for a player that’s under contract Beyond this season I I think a guy like Malcolm Brogden would be around similar value a little bit older and with more of an injury history but again he is under contract Beyond this season now I’m not saying

That they should trade DLo for either of them I’m simply making a comparison to their trade value which points to him having a round above average albe it not great trade value but how about for Austin Reeves a guy they obviously do not want to trade but one though without

A Dell be brought up in trade talks as in my opinion he is their most valuable trade asset not named LeBron or Anthony Davis I mean between the fact that he’s only 25 years old which would still make him a fit for a rebuilding team that’s about

Ready to contend with him now being on an extremely Team friendly contract and a long-term one at that and then with him obviously getting better as well the guy has plenty of overall trade value in my opinion I would compare his value in draft picks to around two unprotected

First round picks not quite at that All-Star level which would demand around three or four first round picks but somewhere right below that point and knowing that it would take a lot for me to trade him I’m talking about getting an absolutely perfect fit that on Team

Friendly contract and a player like that rarely becomes available in my opinion the only players that would even qualify for that right now are ogn and Obi and jonte Murray one being a wing player that would fit virtually anywhere and then the other being a two-way point

Guard that would fit really well in their team system I think you would be crazy to include Reeves in a trade for Zack Laine yeah LaVine might be the better player but then when you factor in the contract the injury history the playoff experience and then his age that

Is when he becomes significantly less valuable and don’t get a twisted you really do have to do that for whatever player you’re thinking about trading for which is what other teams will do when considering a trade for D’Angelo Russell or any player on the Lakers for that

Fact but in regard to what the Lakers could get for these two I think they could definitely get an All-Star level player though it all comes down to being willing to trade a guy like Reeves which high for one would be very hesitant to do again we are not only talking about

Individual production here you need to factor in everything from a player’s contract age fit playoff experience and much much more when making a trade and it’s difficult to find a better value at his current contract in Reeves but without trading him they simply don’t have much trade value in the Angelo

Russell alone like I referred to before they could probably get a guy with equal value to Gary Trent Jr or Malcolm Rogen and then you have to factor in the team they’re trading with actually wanting DLo as well and when you really Factor all of that in it becomes very difficult

To find a trade that both teams would agree to now you of course can come up with a complicated three four even five team trade but that’s when you turn things into NBA 2K rather than real life but to wrap everything up here though I know that everyone seemingly wants to

Trade DLo but they cannot hope to get that much in return for him alone which will likely leaded teams pressuring them to include a guy like Austin Reeves now they do have other trade assets like ruy hachim mura for example who we might talk about in a later video If you guys
