The Milwaukee Bucks Cracked the Code.

The Milwaukee Bucks Cracked the Code.

A lot of people were worried about the bucks after they started off the season hovering around 500 but they currently have the best record in the NBA over the last 15 games sitting only one game behind the Celtics for the number one seed in the Eastern Conference they’ve

Developed somewhat of a death lineup of their own and they’re absolutely demolishing teams in the half court to give you an idea of just how dominant their starters have been together teams are scoring roughly 98 and a half points per 100 possessions in the half court the Bucks starters are scoring

113.5 points per 100 possessions in the half court the second highest rate of any fiveman lineup in the NBA with at least 450 possessions played what’s important to realize about the Bucks is that this team isn’t playing a style of basketball designed for winning a bunch of regular season games and just because

The Bucks are stringing together an impressive amount of wins the fact of the matter is that this team is playing aand brand of basketball that’s built for the slow grind of the postseason let’s look at this possession the Bucks are going to run what’s called horns out

Something that’s been a staple of their offense for years and it involves Middleton receiving a cross screen from Giannis at the elbow to get the ball from Dame now since LaVine is going to overplay it and anticipate the cut to the left side of the floor Middleton

Fades to the other side to get the pass now we can look at what happens when Giannis and Middleton get into the pick and roll the Bulls are going to hedge against Middleton which leaves Giannis open on the short roll in this particular situation the Bulls have Vu

And thear both sinking in to stop Giannis look at the perimeter Dame has dumu pulled all the way out so if Giannis got a pass on the short roll and kicked it to conon he’d have a difficult rotation if dear was fully committed to helping on Giannis vu’s help also leaves

Lopez open in the strong side corner and despite the down year and efficiency from three Lopez is going to make the Bulls pay off the pass from Middleton on this early High pick and roll between Lopez and Dame White’s going to get taken off guard by the screen leaving Dame in attack mode

Against porzingis porzingis is angled towards the middle and I think he’s kind of expecting Tatum to fully commit to sinking to stop Dame’s drive but that would just leave Beasley open in the corner one pass away and it leaves Dame enough room to wiggle his way to the rim

And get the and one same early pick and roll with Damon Lopez white is going to get stuck behind the ball with everyone else based out on the weak side now obviously in this situation Drew can comfortably play off of Giannis one pass away because he’s not really a threat

From Deep the problem that’s going to arise is that when Drew comes to give that help porzingis is left pulled way over on the strong side from the initial pick and roll leaving Giannis open to Stampede off the catch and even though both him and Drew are going to recover

They’re not going to be able to get there in time to avoid sending him to the line on this possession the Bucks are going to run a stagger action which involves Lopez and Giannis screening for Dame to get downhill with Giannis rolling to the basket the drive by Dame

And the Roll by Giannis collapses the defense with Divan chenzo chasing and Randall covering Dame and Taj Gibson covering Giannis on the roll the result is Brook Lopez being left wide open back up top for an easy catch and shoot three the spacing that their starters have on

The floor together allows them to generate a league best number of open threes per game and they’re hitting them at a reliable efficiency when the Damen Lillard trade happened the biggest thing that everyone was talking about was the potential that Damen Lillard and Giannis would have together as a pick and roll

Duo but the reality at least at the beginning wasn’t really what any of us expected and they’ve had to go through an adjustment period in some growing pains because the lack of chemistry was really noticeable as the seasons progressed though they’ve definitely gotten a better feel for each other and

Developed some chemistry and recognized each other’s Tendencies these short roll passes where there being defended in drop coverage have better timing and Dame’s pass placement is getting better and better and on this play it allows Giannis to create a wide open three for Beasley when Brunson sinks in on him

Here he’s going to run a dribble handoff with Dame slipping the screen while Tory Craig is hedging getting him downhill to get to the rim and draw contact on this possession he’s going to roll to the basket bringing Derek white with him towards the Baseline and Beasley moving

Up towards the top pulls Tatum with him with Giannis down low poring kind of forgets about Lopez in the corner and Tatum’s left having to rotate back onto Beasley off the extra pass with porzingis worrying about Giannis anytime they end up in a situation where they

Can get into an empty side action where the rest of the defense is on the weak side of the floor the result is often times plenty of open space for Giannis to attack the rim against limited help defense and in situations where Giannis is operating as the pick and roll ball

Handler something that he often times does he’s usually got Dame spacing the floor for him giving him easy driving lanes and a lot more kickout opportunities they’re scoring the eighth most points per possession on pick and rolls on top 10 pick and roll volume they’re one of only four teams in the

NBA scoring at least one point per possession on at least 25 pick and roll possessions per game they’re not just passable as a pick and roll Duo now they’re genuinely Elite the overarching point with how the Bucks are operating around their main four guys is that they’re almost always guaranteed to have

A good shot the interior presence of Giannis and Lopez on the offensive end is going to collapse defenses and that’s going to create good looks from three inversely the spacing that their Shooters provide will create high percentage looks at The Rim it’s this self-sustaining feedback loop of efficiency this more balanced approach

Has them being significantly less reliant on threes compared to last season and more balanced between getting shots at the rim and from Beyond The Ark and the decline in mid-range frequency isn’t a stylistic thing where there’s saying let’s just take less mid-range shots they’re taking fewer mid-range

Shots because they don’t need to take as many mid-range shots the Bucks as a team shot 42.6% in the mid-range last year which was the 10th worst efficiency in the League this year they’re shooting with the ninth best efficiency in the NBA in the mid-range at 45.5% I’ve

Emphasized this in other videos but Milwaukee’s offense isn’t good because they’re exclusively searching out threes and shots at The Rim mindlessly forcing them because the numbers say that it’s better to do that Milwaukee’s offense is taking a ton of Threes And shots at The Rim because their offense is good

There’s a significant difference between the two and I think that when people complain about how the MBA has become too homogenized in terms of shot distribution they’re looking at the shots and ignoring the entire process of how that shot was created and that’s where the truth really lies the Bucks

Had the issue last year where they relied far too heavily on Perimeter shots and when those shots dry out for long stretches in the the playoffs you’re left wondering how to get good looks that’s no longer the case for them because they have a reliable strong functional halfcourt offense that

Naturally creates a balanced blend of high percentage looks all over the floor you saw in that graph that I showed earlier that the Bucks were attempting over 40% of their shots from Beyond the R Class season and I went back and did some research on this and as far as I

Can tell in the last decade there are only two teams that have ever made the final while attempting 39% or more of their shots from Beyond The Arc and one of them was the Golden State Warriors who have every right to be attempting that many threes the fact that the Bucks have

Finally moved away from such a three-point heavy offense makes me a lot more confident in their ability to make a deep playoff run it’s allowed Giannis to have his most efficient scoring season ever with their new look offense he’s cut down on his mid-range attempts and threes focusing almost entirely on

Getting into the paint to give you an idea of just how dominant of a scorer he is right now there are 126 players in the NBA attempting at least 10 shots a night of those 126 players guess how many are shooting 60% or higher from the

Field one Giannis and he’s doing it on nearly 19 shots per night the Bucks are getting the best version of him and the addition of Dame has made everything easier for their offense as a whole now don’t get me wrong there are still plenty of questions that you can have

About the Bucks how is their defense going to hold up particularly in regards to their backcourt defense do they have enough juice Off the Bench to stay afloat when the starters are resting will everybody be healthy in time for the playoffs and to be fair those are all very reasonable questions but one

Thing about the Bucks that we can be certain of is that their offense is really really good and it’s only getting better so do you guys think that the buck should go out and try to find some upgrades on the trade market if so who do you think they should go after be

The Milwaukee Bucks have been unstoppable lately, and the Damian Lillard trade is starting to pay the dividends that both the Bucks and NBA fans all expected it to. The Milwaukee Bucks offense has been impossible to contain, especially when their starters are on the floor.

The Bucks halfcourt offense looks like one of the best we’ve seen in a long time, with the Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo pick and roll looking like a tough puzzle for defenses to solve, and with Khris Middleton returning to form, the Milwaukee Bucks might have a ticket punched for the Finals.

  1. This season, Giannis is accomplishing something that only a few players have done in NBA history. He is the 4th player in league history to score 25+ points, while shooting 60+ FG%. The other 3 players were Zion Williamson (2 times), 1987 Kevin McHale, and 1990 Charles Barkley. Not even Wilt or Shaq have accomplished that.

Giannis also set a new milestone as well. He became the first player in NBA history to score 30+ points, while shooting 60+ FG%. No other player in NBA history has accomplished this.

  2. I think while crowder is injured, they should get a good wing defender. But andre has had flashes here and there, but it'd be nice

  3. Thankyou, it feels like no one has actually watched this team when they talk about the bucks.

  4. im not sure what a potential trade would even look like, if it'd even be possible but if the Bucks somehow got a player like Alex Caruso that would be cool

  5. They should be looking to upgrade the 2 spot, with best case scenario being Alex Caruso but generally speaking someone like Royce O'Neal would be an ok upgrade also. They just need one guy who can pick up the ball handler, and figure out backline rotations from there.

  6. We lost PJ Jevon Grayson Wes matthews and then Jrue but that’s not the main reason why the bucks are struggling on defense it’s clearly the coach and the defensive schemes he’s implementing and the bucks are struggling to adjust to it. The effort is clearly there but the execution isn’t and that’s on Coach Griff

  7. Bucks could try getting Marcus Smart from the Grizzlies, Alex Caruso from the Bulls, or maybe even a lower tier guy like Royce O'Neale

  8. Awesome analysis, I don’t think people understand that Giannis is saving a bit of himself for the playoffs not chasing an MVP
