Jaime Jaquez Jr. is the PERFECT Fit for Miami 🔥
When the Miami Heat used their 18th overall pick in the 2023 draft on Jam hwz Jr we knew we were getting something different than your normal oneandone 19-year-old NBA rookie hwz spent four years at UCLA the majority of it battling for a national title in his
Senior years he won Pack 12 player of the year and put up almost 18 points a night in his sophomore season he shot almost 40% from three and almost 50% from the field Hawkin was basically one of the best college players in the country so a smooth transition to the
NBA was nothing that shocking but this move is just insane Miami may have found a gem in hame haish Jr let me explain this kid possesses the perfect mix of being a good bad shot maker and what I mean by that is that he’s a great team
Player on offense he can make any team pay for simply leaving him open for a three and he is also really good at timing his Cuts making him really effective off of the ball but on the ball he can hit really tough shots over the defense and most apparently through
The defense with his Incredible strength and craftiness pz’s deep bag was on display during his best game as a rookie on Christmas Day when he dropped 31 points and 10 rebounds on 73% from the field his true shooting is the highest percentage in the 2023 rookie class his
Christmas Day game put him in some special company as the fifth rookie in NBA history to drop 30 and 10 on Christmas stay that put it him with Patrick Ying Walt Bellamy Oscar Robertson Wilt Chamberlain and then the fifth is now Jam HZ Jr a league company
For the rookie and if that wasn’t enough K Hawkin on Christmas day was the first rookie in NBA history to put up at least 31- 10 on 80% or more true shooting with zero turnovers yes there’s a few qualifiers is there but if you’re a Z fan you should probably brag to your
Friends about it now to show just how good H hawz is we’re going to focus a lot on his scoring and offense as an isolation player using his crafting his and strength his ability to finish in traffic a lot of his low poost and mid poost work that involves really some of
The best footwork we’ve seen from a young player player we’re going to go over some of his pick and roll actions and then his off ball movement which just shows incredible understanding of personnel and timing when cutting which makes him just a perfect fit for the
Heat and then also his ability to shoot the three ball just keeps pressure on the defense where you can’t really leave him open and he also knows how to play out of the shooting spots where he he’ll make the defense pay for a late close
Out or a lazy close out and you can’t really try to hide a defender on him or if there’s a situation where one of your better Defenders is stuck on him and they’re trying to kind of play that defensive anchor role that LeBron and Giannis and Draymond play where they
Kind of like to Sag off their Defender and play almost as a safety on defense you can’t do that if your Defender is hakz he’ll make them pay for that that type of spacing so if you pair him with bam who’s a solid playmaker Duncan Robinson has shown incredible playmaking
And Jimmy Butler as well so there’s a lot of players you have to look out for on this Heat team which is why hakz a lot of times isn’t going to get the best opposing Defender he’s able to make a lot of these defenses pay a lot of what
We’re going to look at is him making young stars or even veterans look stupid by just falling asleep on defense and he’s able to cut back door so let’s get into it we start off here with some isolation work he just walks the ball down the court has Josh Hart alone and
This footwork and crafting us is just ridiculous to get to the cup here for the Le and then here he’s got that weird handle where he’s slow but he keeps the handle tight and that’s just a problem where Defenders have a hard time following it and as he breaks down his
Defender here and hits the three and then he gets bobby poris alone simply gets to his spot and this shot is easy for him although it might not be for other players and making Chris Middleton just look like the rookie here and he’s the 10year vet as he goes to his pump
Fake and gets to the rim and then the same move here but he’s able to finish on the left side and the more of this pump fake his use of it is just insane and his ability to hit tough layups like this reverse one in the lane and he
Attacks Middleton here goes to a nice spin move beautiful footwork into the Lefty finish here an array of moves just able to finish with a tough floater over the contest and even if his pump fake doesn’t work he can hit these tough shots and here’s he fakes like he wants
Dam screen but goes left goes to this strong hop step and the left hand is no problem problem this looks like a 15-year veteran and now let’s take a look at some of hz’s just attacking in traffic really through or over defenders here he just attacks strong and is able
To finish over two Defenders and then here the court is very large the floor is spaced he’s able to take pool to the rim and the second Defender doesn’t really matter to him watch haakas here find a great angle off of the dho where one once he’s around the rim he can
Finish this even if DLo is close by and LeBron is coming to help another beautiful angle here this time on a pick and roll with bam he makes Blowing by Andre Drummond look easy which I guess it is and then bam throws a bad pass here and he’s able to just get steep
This footwork is insane over the defense he’s able to finish and here Miami’s first action is taken away with the the double team but a great recovery doesn’t really make hawas open here but he’s fine with driving and hitting this fully contested bed shot and then here some of
His low poost and mid-post work where his footwork is really on display here’s a nice turnaround jumper from around 10 11 ft which he really loves and then patience oneon-one against wo here to get an easy bucket and then he has Colby right here this is basically his office
In the low post this is an easy turnaround jumper he has nice touch and then through the tough defense from imanii Bates this is just a tough guard for anyone he has a lot of strength you’d better get in the weit room and then let’s look at some of his ability
Off the ball here as a roller he probes and just knows where to be this is Instinct whereas most rookies just don’t understand this type of spacing or timing and now now this is an incredible read by hawas as he sets a screen for Robinson and Ben Richardson and as
Duncan Robinson attacks the rim there isn’t much there instead of standing around with what’s really some bad spacing here with Martin him and Richardson all nearby each other he catches Dennis Smith Jr ball watching and is able to cut at the last second for this bucket huge credit to Duncan
Robinson for this pass which she’s made a bunch of plays like this this season this play basically develops in a matter of 1 second just by Robinson and hwz being on the same pitch and then playing the short corner here he’s really comfortable he’s aware Kyle Lowry has
His man beat and times the cut perfectly for the wob and then lamelo is just gambling here going for the steel hakz is way too smart for this he will make you pay nine times out of 10 again the short corners same situation but with RJ Barrett caught
Slipping and then here the heat want to push after McDaniels cheats for a steal and once again hawas just puts pressure on the defense with his Relentless off ball movement Anthony Edwards is the one caught here while watching Once Again watch Conley who’s watching the fall here maybe assume Hawkins will come up
To set the spard screen but Hawkin instead just slips back door along alongside ky’s back where Lowry is able to find him and then more here of hawz just facing the floor but very aware of the moment his Defender is helping too far so he can give in through this
Cutting white up and then again here the awareness his man left him and he’s just waiting there terrible defense but this is our NBA today and then in terms of haz’s three-point range he’s a good shooter his college career he shot 33% from Deep his best season was almost 40%
And for Miami he’s shooting 38% from Deep which is enough where Memphis can’t lose him when they need a stop with 25 seconds to go and then he could just simply make the defense pay if you go under completely on these screens and then he’s able to relocate here bring
Giannis out and let him know that if he doesn’t step up he can hit that and then what this opens up is now Giannis who’s trying to play that safety typ defensive anchor position now he gets the close out harder and then he can now beat him
To the rim and then once again Giannis is not close enough to him basically it’s hard to hide any defender on him normally Giannis wants to play that anchor role like I mentioned but he can’t afford that here so there’s a lot of different ways that hameh hakz junor
Impacts the game between his variety of ways to score and also just his IQ understanding of timing and the fact that he just on the Miami Heat is a huge part of this equation he’s playing with Jimmy Butler Duncan Robinson and when guys like Kyle Lowry and Kevin Love are
In the mix it just seems like hawz is able to cut and they understand where he’s going to be and they have that type of connection so let me know in the comments how good you guys think Jam Hawkin Jr really is I don’t think it’s about him necessarily being a star but
It’s somebody that that he could use right now today and make a finals Run Or Another deep playoff run this year and he’ll be a big part of that and I think his emergence is probably another reason why Jimmy Butler is is doing less this year because they simply don’t need it I
Think the heat are kind of a similar team to what they’ve been where it’s a lot of Plug and Play type stuff but Duncan Robinson looks like an all-around player and look Jame hakz it seems like even though they might have lost some of those role players from last year’s run
These guys are enough now they also have bam adab bio who looks like he’s much better offensively so as an offensive unit I actually think this team now has more scoring they all defend so they’re going to be a really tough out in the playoffs so let me know where you guys
Think Jam hakz Jr should rank in rookie of the year because it’s really interesting he may not have that star type of upside like a Chad or like a wemi but I think the fact that he’s flourishing right now helping a team win right now should count for something so
Let me know what you guys think in the comments and thankk you for watching
The Miami Heat hit it out of the ballpark with their 18th overall pick, Jaime Jaquez Jr. from UCLA.
I love watching the NBA then making videos about it.

He and Podz are guys who play like sophomores.

…..so this is why Cam Rising didn't play for Utah he was in Miami lol
He's a pump maestro.
He needs to start ova Caleb Martin he has better defense then Caleb Martin and is taller and has more size Caleb is best coming off bench or in a 6man role
I know Portland is kicking themselves right now lol

Kluv is the one teaching him,, Luv is an all-star with rings….bruh miami got sum chill vets in house
Na he’s nice asf🤣🤣🤣
Veterans move by triple JJJ…
Nice video, by please learn to say his first name. Hint: it’s not”Hamie.”
Glad he’s with us in Miami
🙏
Lakers missed him by 1 and that’s the biggest burn this season
At the time you publish this video he is the 29th players in NBA for the FG% this season. This is just incredible for a rookie with more than 10 ppg
Nice fit for Miami, pat knows how to spot talent.
Reminds me of Manu, Soild defender, soild playmaker, and crafty with and without the ball. He’s going to be great
JJJ to the Lakers please 😂
Jamei or as we all know him Jaime…has been an awesome rookie
TRIPLE J ON TOP
He plays more like pascal siakam, not jimmyB
Be careful kid in not blaming 19 year old kids as you say. Its the old mainly white coaches all over the US who recruit and push trying to get many of these mostly African American young men to play for their Teams with the majority coming from low income communities which is sad they take advantage of them and don't promote getting the degree first.
He’s growing in to a great player, maybe the next face of the heat player
Sherm went out like a sucka.. stsu punk
Bird gang over here 😂
Another lesson from Mr Riley
I am a Lakers / USC basketball fan, I remember watching Jaquez @UCLA year after year exceed expectations. I wanted the Lakers to draft him bad, we took Hood – Schifino with the 17th pick and I remember saying to myself “Maybe I’m crazy but I don’t think taking Jaquez @ 17 was too high”, with the VERY NEXT PICK, THE Miami Heat made a very smart pick. Look at how it is working out. He is contributing in a very big way on a team that, as usual, year after year, exceeds expectations. #BasketballFanMoreThanALakersFan
iron sharpens iron. Jaime going against Butler in practice just makes him even more experienced.
ROY in my opinion
miami have the perfect "new haslem"
He's proof that you don't need to be athletic to be successful in the league.
He scores more in the NBA than college. Crazy
Holmgren has the best TS% for rookies
