How BAD Are The Detroit Pistons Actually?

How BAD Are The Detroit Pistons Actually?

This is what a normal pick and roll looks like or this this is what the Pistons pick and roll looks like yeah we’ll take a look at this and all of their problems over the course of this video cam Johnson with the c fake into the corner finny Smith Oh Dorian finny

Smith forces a timeout from Monty Williams and they’re going to say last Touch by Cunningham you look at some of the things that will prove to be a bit of a silver lining for the Pistons the 117 they oh boy here we go sell the team they’re saying the unknown comic no yeah

Remember him the Detroit Pistons have broken the NBA record for most consecutive losses with their 27th straight loss against the Brooklyn Nets they broke the record held by the 2011 Cavs and 2014 Sixers but unlike those teams the Pistons aren’t even trying to lose you can tell by their interviews and postgame

Conferences that they’re so upset so embarrassed to be in this situation cuz their players are desperately trying to win they’re not losing due to lack of effort well maybe a little bit but compared to the Sam hinky era Sixers where they signed a bunch of g- Leaguers and randoms on purpose with the

Intention of tanking those teams still did better than this Pistons roster with every passing day the chance to sell the team get louder and louder but just how bad are the Pistons in comparison to the worst teams in NBA history are they really as bad as their record indicates

And what are the real reasons they’re so bad how’s going folks my name’s Andy and without further Ado let’s get started to give you an idea of how this team Compares here’s a graph of the NBA’s worst net ratings in history the Pistons are not at the bottom which I

Guess is a good thing as of this video they’re tied for the eighth worst net rating in NBA history losing by an average of 11.5 points a game funny enough the Spurs have actually been worse in this category because the Pistons have had a record-breaking losing streak all eyes are on them so

The Spurs have kind of flown under the radar even though they also deserve a lot of flak I’m sure you all know the worst team in NBA history by winning percentage is the 2011 to2 Charlotte Bobcats who went 7 and 59 in the lockout shorten season honestly that Bobcat’s

Team was very similar to this Pistons team the Bobcats had a couple of veterans but mostly a bunch of young players who were recent draft picks still still very raw and inexperienced in the early stages of their career it was a rough transition period compared to the modern-day Pistons they also have

A bunch of young guys trying to develop and improve even if they lack the talent right now it doesn’t help that one of their only veterans buan bogdanovich has been out for most of the year and he’s the only player on this team who can actually shoot in his absence it’s made

The team’s lack of shooting even more unbearable that’s what I want to talk about next let’s take a dive into the actual problems with this team on the court first the spacing in the modern era of basketball where spacing and pick and rolls dominate the Pistons are unsurprisingly horrendous at both of

These things not only do they attempt the fewest number of Threes a game but they shoot them at the second worse percentage I mean you could say that at least they recognize they’re bad at shooting so they don’t take as many threes except they don’t do any better

When they put the ball on the floor pick and roll is the most efficient play that teams use in the half court and in order to be a great pick and roll team you need a great ball handler someone who can create and threaten the defense

After calling for a pick the only player they have who can do that is Kade Cunningham even so it’s still a learning process for him Kade is running the pick and roll on a ridiculous 45% of his possessions only eclipsed by a hand full of players but he’s only averaging 0.89

Points per possession in the pick and roll compared to his peers who also run a lot of pick and rolls Kate’s efficiency is quite a bit lower of course the terrible spacing has a lot to do with this when Cade gets into the paint the defense is suffocating because

Everyone knows the Pistons have very few outside threats that allows the defense to hone in on Cade and basically ignore everyone else every single time he runs it he gets hounded but he has no one to pass to while it’s clear he’s going to be the Pistons franchise player you know

Hopefully there’s going to be Growing Pains being a part of the worst team ever is one hell of a growing pain essentially the Pistons are super weak at the two most important aspects of offense spacing and picking rolls their problems run deeper than just that they’re bigs have failed them when you

Think of big men busts in recent years Marvin Bagley and James wisman come to mind the Pistons happen to have both of them it’s not their scoring and finishing ability that’s problematic they’ve had some good games here and there and compared to the rest of the team they’re good at finishing at the

Basket it’s just they don’t do anything else required from a big man they set soft screens they can’t shoot at at all outside the paint which contributes to this awful spacing with so many young centers on the roster you’d expect at least one of them to be able to fade out

And pop a jumper and of course the most important skill set you need as a big is defense there’s supposed to be the anchor that holds down the paint but Bagley and wisan look completely lost sometimes truth be told the entire team’s defense is severely lacking from

The top of the perimeter to the wings to the paint they rank near the bottom at defend every area of the floor a Bo on bogdanovich is probably the biggest culprit because it seems like he can’t stay in front of anyone in the past he’s been the Piston’s most

Effective scorer but he gives up twice as many points at the other end I feel like he doesn’t deserve as much criticism cuz he’s coming back from a bad hamstring injury the team has to play him though even when half injured he’s like the only consistent shooter now let’s take a look at

Something else in particular the management of the Detroit Pistons over the off season the organization made a huge huge push to acquire Monty Williams and huge is an understatement team owner Tom gors and pistons GM Troy Weaver both conducted a massive effort to convince Monty Williams to become head coach oh they

Recruited him so freaking hard they wanted him so badly that they offered him the largest contract in history for a head coach 6 years $78 million with incentives that could pay him over 100 million this was after Monty turned them down multiple times I think when people

First heard about this the reaction was well at least the Pistons are making an effort to try and win right now that the losses have racked up I understand why he got fired by the Suns Monty he seems like a nice guy but his rotations are

All kind of whack even with the team’s lack of Shooters Monty somehow Mak makes it even worse by playing multiple centers at the same time compounding their spacing issues even further it doesn’t help that I feel like a lot of players are seeing their roles change and they’re not adapting too well for

Example Isaiah Stewart is trying to transition into being a stretch four to make room for jayen Duran at Center Killian Hayes is giving up the ball handling duties to Cade but he’s also struggling to play off the ball cuz he’s never done that before assar Thompson is

The most recent lottery Pick and he projects to become a typical jack of all trades Wing player but the thing with these guys is they’re usually not good at any specific thing so it’s harder to shine on a bad team and then you have some busts who are trying to prove

They’re not busts it’s the responsibility of the coaching staff to manage these guys to put them in the best position to succeed there’s just a lot of conflicting roles and misfits this team clearly has an identity is issue and the young guys did not develop the way they hoped one could look at

This piston situation and think hey they’re still young and have plenty of time to grow however compared to other teams who started rebuilding after the Pistons they’ve made massive strides in their development the Orlando Magic the Houston Rockets the Pacers they’re way further ahead for the Pistons it’s been

Slow a very slow process and there’s questions if Kate Cunningham really is that that guy can he really be the face of the franchise he’s shown he has the talent to do so but it’s come in spurts he’s never done it on a consistent basis since entering the league let’s wait and

See what happens down the road let me know your thoughts in the comment section thank you all so much for watching I hope yall enjoyed the video and of course as always I’ll see you next time peace

A record-breaking losing streak that will be in the lore of NBA history forever. Let’s take a detailed look at the everything that’s wrong with the Detroit Pistons, the worst team in the NBA.

  1. On December 28, 2023 The Neo Bad Boys took one of the best teams in the league in the Celtics to overtime, only falling short 128-122 after key player foul-outs and lack of response to a Celtic run.
Barring excuses, any true Piston fan can see a team struggling not from a lack of determination , but a myriad of setbacks from injuries to simple quality of players within coach Monty's system.
The Pistons organization have clearly showcased a team in the middle of a rebuild project while showing little to no sign of improvement over the first phases , which may upset the majority of fans lead to consider the turnaround to be sooner.

  2. I'd argue that Cade is in an even worse situation than LeBron in Cleveland, not even that LBJ could save this Piston team

  3. Headz should b rolln in Detroit!! Fire Monty & trade half tha team! This is inexcusable & needs 2 change… immedi8ly!! ✌🏽😐❤️🏀

  4. Ever since they traded Chauncey and acquired Iverson, up to the time they signed Ben Gordon, The pistons lost their culture. Sure they said they'll change it as time went on, back in 2012 I think, but no one is buying in, especially if the front office doesn't know what they're doing. The franchise is built on a foundation of defense, from the Bad boys to the 04 champs, not a shred of effort attempting to rebuilding that defensive culture foundation is being put out. Only Duren, Thompson, Ivey, and Cunningham can fit that mold with this roster, the rest? questionable. Not even sure if Monty is really a great coach, his resume includes all time great players. Bring back that defensive culture, the culture the city buys in.

  5. They'll beat the Spurs in 11 days. I still can't believe the Spurs let Portland's G-League team (with Simons, Sharpe, Ayton all out) drop 71 points in the first half last night with Victor being rested the second night of the B2B. This Spurs team is so obscenely bad but it's being hidden by Wemby being able to singlehandedly carry them to the occasional win. But almost everyone on the team is terrible defensively. Malaki Branham's a starter and lets his man shoot 57%. Keldon Johnson gives up almost 52% shooting to whoever he's guarding. Jeremy Sochan is supposed to be the defensive minded jack of all trades that Ausar Thompson actually is and he's allowing 50% shooting against. Bottom 20-30% in the league from a guy who wears Rodman's number FFS. I wish someone would talk about how piss poor the Spurs are defensively, because Pop needs to be in the hot seat. The defense he is running is insane. There is so much helping leading to wide open threes by the other team constantly. Everyone shoots lights out against them and you have to think this is Pop's design because he never benches anyone for leaving their man wide open at the three point line.

  6. I think the biggest problem the pistons had is lack of confidence, being too passive on the offensive end and the defensive ends and being competitive on a young team. They had all cards in with the veterans especially Bojan who has been a big stud for the team. They should get rid of Joe Harris and Burks as they both had the worst season in their career. they drafted very good prospects in Ivey, Duren and Ausar Thompson but their weakenesses is shooting respectively for those recent prospects. Lack of shooting, bad plays, turnovers, defense and rebound are the biggest problems for the team. It's time that before the deadline they should make some moves that will hopefully turn around for the team. It will be tough for them to lose more games and if they are able to make a good trade deadline we can see them turn around. The previous trades we saw from the pistons are good and bad at the same time like for an example trading Drummond for basically nothing, Losing Griffin due to buyout.

  7. It also doesnt help for the fact that every team their gonna play now will play like its the playoffs. They dont want to be the one to break the losing streak and lose to the worst team in nba history

  8. I still can't believe their 0-28 after starting 2-1; with a 2 game win streak mind you. Even their first loss against the Heat in the 1st game of the season was just 1 point, yet here we are at 0-28.

  9. Pistons have a lot of problems – poor drafting, horrible roster construction, questionable coaching decisions and plethora of mistakes which result into unforced turnovers. They'll also have to figure out whether to pay Cade this off season or trade him and start over… again.

  10. I've been saying Gores needs to go for years, the fact that it's come to this is just devastating. The Pistons fans need to band together to form a supporters trust in order to make sure that they're kept in the loop and that this sort of thing doesn't happen again.

  11. Lol i am not surprised as the best players team up that the baddest teams get even worse. The NBA has to many teams with too many all star players nowadays. Thats the Problem

  12. All I gotta say is Monty Williams got away with the best contract ever dudes getting paid millions to coach this awful team

  13. completely didnt touch on the fact that Monty started Killian over Jaden Ivey, who outside of Cade and Duren when healthy, is the one bright spot. Oh and we are also paying $50M+ to some crusty ole vets like Burks, Joe Harris and friends, but couldn't pay up a solid free agent stretch 4. Livers is our 3&D wing who cant shoot the 3 or play D…. yeah it goes on….

  14. How could you not mention the tear Cade has been on recently? He dropped 40 points twice in his last 5 games. How many other NBA players have dropped 40+ twice in 5 games recently? Not many

  15. What about Ivey he’s actually a better pg than Cunningham he should be a sg instead and let Ivey shine

  16. It sucks for Cade but a shakeup is in order. These players are too lost on the court, they need a hardened vet or at least a coach who knows what the hell he's doing without CP3.

If anything, MJ's probably smoking a huge ass cigar and is betting a cool mil that the Pistons will take the "Worst team in NBA history" title off of his '11-'12 Bobcats 😂
