Monty Williams after snapping 28-game Losing Streak: “I was almost in tears.”

Monty Williams after snapping 28-game Losing Streak: “I was almost in tears.”

I don’t need the stat sheet tonight it doesn’t even matter explain the scenes in the locker room I mean I’ve been in a ton of locker rooms my whole life and uh that’s that’s a first for me to have that kind of um it wasn’t relief it was just like

Thank God you know finally and uh guys were screaming I was almost in tears and um I’m just so happy for our guys I’m happy for everybody in the locker room um you know sometimes it just takes a win like that to get things started and all the

Situations that um our young guys are growing in um was pretty cool to be in it and come out on top even though in the midst of it you know you check my armpits and other places right now wouldn’t but at the same time um the

Locker room was just it it was pretty cool and um I just have so much respect for our team the way they come in every day I I’ve said it so many times and I think people may have thought that they were okay with losing but they came in every

Day with a great spirit and they wanted answers and they came in wanting to learn and try to get better we rarely came into the the gym with um a bad Spirit we always had our joy because we knew that um if we put it together we could not

Just win one game but you know put many wins together so I just respect the heck out of our guys I’m really happy that we finally got a win because it’s so hard to win in this league and um yeah it’s pretty cool this man be to

Be determined but usually teams learn to win at high stakes games like playoffs or something like that but is it there could there be some irony in this losing streak like you guys played this is probably the most steady 48 minute game you guys have played in a while really

No lapses you got production everybody even the endings of the last few games haven’t been bad it’s maybe been a second quarter yeah could there be some irony that you learn to win from I mean something I told you know JD had a help off the corner and gave up a three and

You can drill it in practice you can watch it on film but until you feel it it’s hard for guys to learn um we had a number of get in situations that we haven’t had a chance to be in you know how physical it is when you’re

Trying to take the ball out on the side and you’re just trying to get it in to shoot free throws you know it’s it’s rare for them to call a foul um we had the one where they grab bogey but those situations are invaluable so so to your

Point you know we’ve had a lot of in game you know in the meat of the game but rarely have we had um that kind of ending where it took that long but that’s you know typical of a playoff game and for us it is a playoff game you

Know we got to we have to grow in every situation coach how different is practice and team how going to feel moving forward after tonight just with this weight I don’t I don’t think we we talked about that like we we knew coming into this season

That we had to grow in a number of areas the discipline the habits the way we practice um and we’ve done that we’ve had really good practices um we just haven’t had the consistency in games to to win um so I don’t think our practices

Are going to change you know it’d be I’d be lying if IID said there wasn’t a bit of relief in the building you’re going to feel that for sure but our guys are understanding um young guys 22 you know 19 20 years old playing against season vets Toronto has a

Champion in their locker room and se yakum you know that’s you’re playing against a lot of experience and we’re learning you know how physical the game is how every possession is important um we saw that in Boston the other night on the road um so all of these experiences

Are helpful for for us but the practices you know I’m sure there’s going to be even more a level of seriousness in the practic is that you know we we’ve seen and then we’ll probably raise it a level because we never want to go back to what

We just experience K of course kind of strugg the first half shot Kevin KN picked up I don’t know kind of Step Up Get I mean when you you’re missing Stewie um you seeing guys like K KNX who wasn’t even in training camp with us you

Know and now he’s called to start and and guard se yakum you know um Kade had a tough first half but his second half was brilliant um AB has just stayed with it it was a a segment um for about I don’t know two or three weeks where he he just

Couldn’t buy one and um all of our young guys watched him every day put the work in um during practice after practice and you know those are the experiences that are just just as valuable as the stuff that we’re learning in games you know our young guys are watching a a old head

Who went through a tough time you know stay with it keep a good attitude and and tonight it paid off tonight was some of the M shots specifically from the free throw 35 4 just how much was that impact huge I mean anytime you know Kade

And ji can get to the line that many times it speaks to um one the game was pH physical they Toronto is a big strong team they play physical basketball but we just kept attacking and I thought that was um really important um so when those guys

Get to the line I mean 40 times that’s 40 times we can set our defense that’s 40 times you get a quick blow not 40 but you get the point 20 times so I think anytime we can get to the line like that it’s beneficial for us but it it it’s

Fits the athleticism of our team because we have a few guys that can play downhill

  1. Williams after Detroit goes 1-39 the next few months: “We were in a lot of games, but good thing Charlotte traded away 1/2 the team for some pecan pie right before we played them, that really helped.”

  2. Blame Monty if you want to Detroit. Head coach and starting point guard are all yall have figured out in this TOUGH ass league.
Basketball grew, your front office didn’t. BE MAD AT YOUR TEAM BABY
Y’all are the last franchise to catch up, the news gone eat. 🙏🏽

  3. I honestly feel bad for this coach having to answer questions after losing 28 games. Yes, is it his fault mostly, yes he is the coach and should take blame. But mostly I blame the gm and owner for not getting better players and shoving it all down on this poor guy. PS: Cade Cunninghams career is getting ruined in Detroit

  4. Monty is a class act! His team may not realize it, but they're really lucky to have him. He got a raw deal in Phoenix, but he knows what he's doing, and he knows people.

  5. We are 3-29 man i was almost in tears. It was pretty cool. So much respect for our guys 😂 this is so sad to hear. Just simply getting a win and dude is extremely proud of his team. Detroit fans don't deserve this at all. The fact that they still have fans going to games is unbelievable.

  6. Nothing but respect for Detroit! I was always have! As a kid in 1988 my basketball coaches taught us how to play by the way Detroit played defense because we was a small team. We had to watch the Detroit Pistons! I’ll always have respect 🫡

  7. Its a shame. They are so happy for this win, like an african team won a game in winter olimpic, the difference these guys earns millions. I dont know whos fault this, player or coach but its shame.

  8. Why and how Toronto, 🤔 ❓️ These Piston games have been some of the best basketball games played in the league, and you Toronto have now robbed us of that, that's nasty work…

  9. Hey Monty I can put in a word for you with my boss different profession less pay thou.Just wanted to extend a branch from now before your forced vacation.

  10. Damn that is too bad. Now they are going to have to start all over and see if they can get the streak up above 28. I know it won't be easy, and there will be days where the players will let their guard down, let their energy falter and start making buckets or playing defense. But achieving your goals in life sometimes requires extraordinary perseverance and faith, and I think this team still has it in them to do something unprecedented.

  11. This guy is too emotional… think about it, those videos with suns not but 2 years ago. This guy loves the camera low key… allways tearfull and on the verge of breakinh down . He is robbing detroit of their money. When you have to coach guys who actually need coaching , and dont have veterans like in Suns. The guy is a flake

  12. Congratz to the 2024 pistons for winning the nba championship. Love to see monty celebrating like that 🎉🎉🎉
