I used to make the case that this was such a fun era of Knicks basketball (2021-2024) bc of how much homegrown young talent we had (and 2 playoff seasons, pushing a third this year). Between Grimes, IQ, RJ, Mitch, Obi, McBride we had 5-6 homegrown Knicks contributing to winning basketball.
Then I made the case Randle and Brunson were “legacy” guys that aren’t “homegrown” but as of now their best career years and trajectory of a career will have people place them as Knicks. Especially Brunson who basically served only as a backup to Luka.
But now that’s all gone. Obi is gone, IQ and RJ are gone. Grimes and Mitch remain, although I think Grimes is most likely to be moved. They were all very young coming in around 18-21 years old. Basically all under 25 their entire tenure and playing 3-5 years on the team
Now our team is Randle, OG, Brunson. Which are all aged 26-29 and no longer “young” by league standards. All are in their “prime” of their career and have 4-6 seasons left of high productively basketball.
But the era of young AND homegrown Knicks has turned into Prime and “Legacy” Knicks.
I guess that means no more excuses or like “RJ is only 20.” It’s time for results, bc we are no longer the young team, we are middle aged by NBA standards. Mitch and iHart are both 26 this spring, Grimes is only under 25 year old left.

I’m sad af ngl, but I’ll always root for him and RJ no matter what. As frustrating as it’s been at times, it’s also been a great few seasons of basketball with these guys
