Barrett & Quickley Traded to Toronto Raptors for Anunoby, Achiuwa, & Flynn | New York Knicks

Huge trade for the Knicks as they do a deal with the Toronto Raptors as RJ Barrett is on his way and the Knicks acquire ogan anobi precious atua and Malachi Flynn from Toronto for RJ Barrett Emanuel quickley and the piton second round draft pick which is likely

Going to be the top pick of the second round this spring Barrett of course going home to his native Toronto he struggled of late his big contract comes off the books quickley is on his way he’s a restricted free agent and because of Jaylen Brunson stardom quickly

Forever would likely be a backup here so that’s one of the reasons why quickly is moved the Nick’s hope that a choa can help in terms of depth in the front court and Flynn potentially could be helpful in the backourt Off the Bench a lot to sort out what is the headline for

You when we talk about this the headline is the motivation is defense because this is a team that’s defense is starting to get away from them at this point and something had to be done something had to give you certainly missed Mitchell Robinson hard to replace him but to upgrade defensively what OG

Adubi is the story here the Knicks right now are 15th in the league in defensive rating they were in the first two months October November fourth best in the league in defensive rating in the month of December all the way down to the third lowest the third worst defensive

Rating that is a trend they wanted to stop an anobi is a headliner in terms of the Acquisitions what makes him for what the Knicks hope will be a perfect fit the fit is a lot of things it’s multifaceted too it’s not just his defense which of course is the start of

The ation but it’s what he can do for you offensively as well because he’s a big body he’s got a long wing span and that right there is everything he is last year led the league in steals also LED was tops in the league in deflections those are the things he does

He disrupts your offense but he also brings you offense with not just athleticism and getting to the basket but the ability to shoot the corner three and you have to run out and if he does if you do he can do that but his Corner three is the same shot profile as

Our J Barrett he shoots 43% in the corner he’s going to get a lot of those looks in this Nick’s offense all right so Tom thid of course used to make the front office decisions when he was the coach and president for Minnesota knows all about the challenges that faced Leon

Rosen company here’s tibs his comments pregame on the trade I think the the one thing for me uh having done Leon’s job is under having the perspective of all that goes into it and I think our office did a great job they have to look at you know

Both shortterm and long-term and how it fits and you know what’s the best thing for the franchise and I think that they did that I think what OG has done and what he has shown um one he has positional size uh two he’s he can guard multiple positions uh three he’s a

Terrific three-point shooter so he can space the floor he’s also very good in transition very good finishing um and he’s young so he still has a lot of development left in his game um uh precious gives us size uh and you very good rebounder U offensive rebounder um and it’s something we want

To take a look at and you know Malachi’s a good young player as well

The New York Knicks made a major move acquiring OG Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn for RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley. Alan Hahn & Bill Pidto break down the trade.

  1. OG is only slightly better than RJ and thats only on the defensive side. Other than that RJ has the better offensive bag. When JuJu went down before we got Brunson, it was RJ that held us down. People expected a guy who is the 3rd option on the team and one that they turned into a pick and pop shooter, to drastically improve. He definitely did with his 3 point shooting like we wanted to, but with Brunson and JuJu with the ball most of the time, how much more could he have improved. RJ was scoring almost 20 points a game for us and Knick fans talked smack about him. Well, now he's gine and we get OG who isn't that much better and has a history being injury prone. At least RJ loved NY and wanted to be here, loved the media and knew how to hold it down for the team. I do t see this as an improvement at all. On top of giving away our homegrown talent.. you add Quick to the mix..🤦!!! This is a L!!! I get that its not the end of trading for us and that we might be going after Spida or other big name stars, so with that being said. RJ was looking at his touches dwindling and also his minutes and now has the opportunity to go home and be a rising Star in Toronto. As for Quick being behind Brunson and him wanting a bigger role and potentially walking at the end of the season.. he also gets the opportunity to start over and have a bigger role. I got nothing but love for #9RJBullyBarrett #5EQuick and i wish them nothing but the best in Toronto!!! #Respect!!! #OnceAKnickAlwaysAKnick!!!

  2. I hate being a Knicks fan. I could care less about RJ. Him and OG are a wash but damn. We basically traded IQ and a 2nd for Precious Achiuwa and Malachi Flynn. That's awful. Can we, for once, develop and retain our drafted talent.

  3. The Knicks need a head coach or assistant who can modernize their archaic offense. That may have helped IQ and RJ in NY.

  4. This was a good trade for both teams what really bothers me I didn’t want to give up IQ it should have been either grimes or Fournier in the trade

  5. Knicks fans don't understand how valuable OG's defence is. It is the hardest thing to notice to average fans. You will see the difference come spring. Knicks will make EC final 4 and have a shot to upset. They may make another trade but it's delicate. A shooting 2G is what they need now. Possibly Beal

  6. Should have traded Fournier! Quick just helped us win numerous games in the past few months! His 3 point shooting really helped us to score in games where neither Randle or Brunson could get a shot up. Very bad idea to trade Quickley. He’s going to end up like Toppin in Indiana. That young man has been playing great games since that trade. Seems we always get rid of the players that actually make a difference! Smfh😩

  7. It’s a joke we had to use this many assets to get a defensive small forward with below average offensive skills. In a few years this trade will age poorly. IQ will start and put up 20/5/5 and RJ will continue to marginally improve every year. OG will be the same player for his career. We have so much draft capital, but we used our 3rd and 4th best players for a defensive specialist. Leon Rose gets credit for Brunson, otherwise it’s all a mess….And if our defense is this bad, OG isn’t fixing it, especially even if we got Donovan mitchel, or Curry or Beal. I hate this trade.

  8. Quickley will demand way too much in his next contract, nothing more than a streak scorer and slightly above avg D…I'm sorry for me anything less than Embiid, I know he's not leaving now, is a wash. Another move is definitely necessary tho, need a 3rd scoring option.

  9. The Knicks took one step forward two steps back. RJ being traded is understandable but IQ? He’s a future star in this league & he was a star on the Knicks. Who will lose to teams after now having an anemic bench without Q.

  10. Knicks fans. Knicks don’t trade away all stars. Or future stars. There hasn’t been one guy since I’ve been a Knicks fan since 1990. This is a good trade. Jalen is 26 and Julius is 29. We don’t have a big window with them

  11. I had a feeling about Barrett. Sure enough. And OG is going to be a huge addition at both ends of the court. Robinson has been great when he's been healthy, but he's been dinged up a couple of times now. That usually doesn't bode well for a big man in the long run. This is a really good move for the Knicks.

  12. The raptors won this trade hands down, don’t get me wrong OG is a great defender we will miss him but this trade is a big W for the raps
