[lewenberg] Quickley said his preference is to play on the ball but has shown that he can also play off of it. Said his role was to be a scorer off the bench in NYC but with the new, expanded opportunity he’s hoping to show that he can make plays and elevate his teammates.

I know they’re vastly different players but I honestly think he’s gonna be our new Lowry. It’s gonna a focus for him to elevate his playmaking and be a real starting PG.

Hope Darko lets him create with the ball and not pass everything
He’s not a great playmaker, he’s okay, certainly better than GTJ but if he wants to play on-ball he better be averaging 7+ assists per game in this system as a guard
Quckley is a better version of GTJ IMO, he’s able to create his own but also shoot at a high % off the ball, but unlike GTJ he can also play make and pass…he’s essentially what we wanted GTJ to become IMO and would be better served at the 2 than the 1
It’s going to be interesting to see if they stick Scottie at the 1 and Quickley at the 2…I keep hearing people say he will play PG but that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me…maybe I’m way off base but why would we run the ball through Quickley who’s not a great playmaker, when we have Scottie who’s an elite playmaker…we should use Scottie as a hub and let him facilitate
To me the lineup should be:
C- Jak
PF – Siakam
SF – Barret
SG – Quickley
PG – Scottie
With GTJ and Schroder coming off the bench with heavy minutes…it allows us to utilize Scottie’s playmaking and find guys for open looks…this “Quickley will play PG” doesn’t make a lot of sense to me but hey, Maybe I’m wrong
I would love if he starts but I would be surprised if Darko benches Dennis for him. I’m guessing the starters will be Dennis, RJ, Scottie, Siakam, Poeltl. Even though that spacing really sucks I could see Darko just doing that for the politics
Well, he’s playing off Barnes. That might mean having more handling duties some nights, maybe not others
Luckily we are garbage at both guard positions so he should get lots of opportunity
