Both deserve it in their own way. Wouldn’t be mad if Chet gets it or they share the award. Great rookie season, great player.
However, I still believe Wemby will take it if things continue as they are now.
Victor has progressed on every single stat, while Chet has slightly regressed in terms of efficiency.
The main thing that will impact this is narrative about teams: And it can go both ways.
You either underrate Chet’s impact because he’s on a better team or you praise him for helping OKC contend in a significant way.
Same for Victor, you either say: “He’s doing great despite being on a worse team, which makes it even more impressive”, or “He does not impact winning like Chet does” even though it’s a team game and an individual award.
Also depends how you rate efficiency and how you weight the impact on team influencing one’s efficiency (open looks, double-teams, being guarded by the best defenders, etc).
Not that Wemby would have a better efficiency than Chet if you switched places. Chet is still the better shooter.
The thing is, is he the better player?
Subjective, I guess.
But a teenager rookie leading rookies in Points, Rebounds, Steals, Blocks and being top 5 Rookies in Assists. While leading the entire league in Blocks and Stocks per game. And not being favourite for ROTY?
Crazy stuff. Those stats are “Rookie of the 21th century” material.

That’s like peak trash journalism.

Watching both shows you wemby is so much better. It’s like the AD and Dame situation while both are amazing players AD is clearly way better than dame (when healthy)

Wembys clearly better, sucks if he doesn’t get it but I’m sure he’ll get a few mvps and fmvps to Chet’s 0 when it’s all over
