Joe Mazzulla On Celtics HORRIBLE 3rd Quarter in Loss to Thunder | Postgame Interview

There anything you saw in that that run to close that you weren’t seeing earlier in the game in terms of you know effort City or just time uh I mean I thought we played a good first half I thought we played a bad third quarter and I thought

We picked it back up in the fourth quarter so uh we can’t have a 40-point quarter against a team like that and you know they put pressure on the entire game so you have to have a high level of uh defensive you know activity effort connectivity to make multiple efforts

For the entire game in that third quarter there seem to get into the rim a little easier than teams generally do against you what was kind of the costes are uh I thought we missed a lot of layups I thought we got the ball around the rim and you know didn’t finish

Through contact which allowed them to get out in transition uh we got crossmatched and so some of it was in the half court and some of it was just we didn’t quite uh bring the physicality to the rim in the third quarter which allowed them to get out and

Transition sh got his fourth foul in the third quarter but he played the rest of the quarter how do you say you think of going at him how do you say Pi up that uh we went out him almost every possession I thought he did a good job

Of kind of staying out of it they were bringing help Bron Payton down the stretch what did he add defensively uh good ball pressure good physicality um just uh you know just brought a level of um you know physicality to the game defensively and then uh spacing on offense so I thought

Um you know his presence you know helped us get back in the game what changed on gilis Alexander uh in the in that fourth quarter that allowed you to him up a little more what kind of went wrong before that obviously you can have big games against anyone but it seemed to be

Easier at times tonight I thought we we we stayed Square we didn’t give him angles to the basket which is hard to do because it’s uh it’s every single possession so I thought in the fourth quarter we did a better job we picked up a little bit higher we State Square

Didn’t get them angles and if we did we just had guys at the rim and we kind of made multiple efforts they shot higher than their season percentage from three is that just something with or is that uh depend I thought that third quarter also they had their bench guys made some shots

Which were good and so you know um I think it’s situational I think at the end we got to guard the three-point line better but I think you know overall um closing out the shooters with the high hand contesting just little things I thought they I thought they played well

I thought that third quarter caught us got us I don’t know how Joe you felt about your ball security but they generally create a lot of turnovers what what makes them so tough to to protect the ball again yeah I thought we were good for the most part 14 um probably

Could had a little bit less but there’s have active hands active hands they do a good job of uh meeting you at The Rim um you know it’s a tough physical team I thought it was two great teams the game went about how I thought it would go um

As far as it coming down to the last couple possessions and um you know it was a great game for us with like 20 seconds left you guys are down four um you go for two and you didn’t connect on the Tatum to P is is that the plan there

To go for the quick two uh would you prefer a three in that situation where KP stepped on line down four no look like 20 seconds left he end up getting fouled on the play oh yeah just extend the game we have timeout uh it was just

Get a quick basket as quick as we can how good was christops in this match up um he was good I mean our guys all our guys played well except the third quarter thanks Joe thanks

  1. JT and KP the only ones who were balling and his rotations had them both sit out with JB and Jrue together who were awful

  2. The defensive breakdowns this game were things I hadn't seen all season. Probably the worst defensive game of the season. Plus, missing so many layups and easy ones, especially Jrue. White, KP, and JT did great- Tatum even passed out of one of his horrible contested 3s and Horford sunk it. Best part of the game besides DW's corner 3.

  3. He asked about 3rd qtr defense, he brings up us missing layups. Nothing to do with Luke starting in the 3rd, I know he can’t say that but our missed layups? Ya maybe a couple possessions but against fast teams like this luke has no business being on the floor. Play oshae instead please try it

  4. I know he lies to the media though so who knows what he’s actually thinking. Seemed like he had a bad game plan. Either that or the players didn’t execute the game plan. Too many open 3s for okc sga didn’t get pressured enough until the 4th. Jrue omg was he bad. I hope this is a one off or chemistry issue because all season he’s been hit or miss. Last year he was so good until the playoffs. Is this his down slide? Should we have gone after a younger 3&d player probably cheaper? I’m sure u could have found someone for 20+million a year. Just thoughts. The sky isn’t falling. Okc is a great team and it seemed like we started to figure them out towards the end, or we just picked up the intensity. Either way we need a win in Utah. Go C’s. Is Tatum that guy in crunch time? Also something I’ve been pondering. Look how steph, sga, ant man, finish games, hitting clutch shots getting to their spots. I feel confident with the bell in their hands at the end of a game. Not sure if I have that confidence in Tatum.

  5. Lack of energy in defense. Loose and too much open threes. They still have the mindset playing with Spurs. But I saw the best switching defense in the 4th Q which was already late.

  6. It’s all good It’s clear if Brown doesn’t have this bad game Celtics for sure win this it was one of those nights

  7. this guy , we missed layups that turn into transition buckets is the most ridiculous statements he makes all the time instead of the main reason transition buckets happen is when you jack up a lot of threes . horrible coaching

  8. This is genuinely the worst fanbase in the league. C's lose by 4 points on the road to one of the best teams in the West (I think the best, and almost certainly Finals bound if they stay healthy) despite a horrific night at the rim, and on defense – and look at this frigging comment section. Acting like they're the Pistons. Just cannot get this upset when they lose to top tier squads, folks.

  9. We lost because of Coaching.
    Doesn't call timeouts.
Doesn't take out Jaylen Brown after 1-8.
    Let's jb make multiple turnovers.
Never took him out. We would have won without JB. Some nights even stars need to be benched. Wasn't his night. Period

  10. Brown and Holiday were AWFUL on defense. They let SGA get anything he wanted. Terrible 3rd quarter.

  11. One thing not agree to coach, percentage wise not all guys played good, JB 0:8 from threes, also JT under his level, may be New year is to blame

  12. you know what, you win some you lose some. we’re not a perfect team. no team is. BUT we’re still the BEST team. i’m not sweating this loss. there was a lot wrong. with jrue and his turnovers, defense could’ve been better, etc. e we tried. we came back and lost by 4. it is what it is. they’re not winning a seven game series against us. we’ll be back next game

  13. Grande jogo..erro do mazzulla dói colocar Al Horford e juntos com time jovem e rápido..bom jogo… JB e jh bem abaixo

  14. Will see if Celtics can adjust when they meet the Thunder at home. Also they have a chance to redeem themselves vs the Pacers in a few days. These fast and athletic teams are the ones where we can’t have a letdown in the third quarter or any other time for that matter.
