Jose Alvarado on executing on both ends of the court | Pelicans vs. Nets Postgame 1/2/24

Uh last season you guys were a top 10 defense you guys are back in the top 10 again um you know when you just look at the big picture uh why is this team just generally defended pretty well I mean I think we uh you know we look back on our

Losses and we figure out like you know we either going to outscore play um teams or we going to stop teams and um I think we you know I asked coaches Ashley and he was like I was like you know what do you think what type of Team you he

Said we got to be both to be really good and uh and I think that’s what we’re doing you know we got we being both we being good on both sides and know we winning games now yeah I mean early in the season you were saying like look

This team just has a lot of talent you got to get it all in the floor we kind of see it and now of like this is what it looks like when it’s almost completely healthy yeah yeah um yeah I mean we know how good we could be and

That’s what a little bit of FR part uh frustration part on us on when we lose games um but obviously we missing a big part of our team Trey Murphy and um so when he gets back we know we just got to keep you know getting the field and the

Rhythm going and know we’ve seen be’s defensive numbers blocks and stills really go up lately how does it change things for y’all when he’s making a big impact on that I mean you know uh when you Superstar doing all the little things and all the things to win the

Game it makes the game a lot more easier you know I think uh he’s doing a tremendous job on that side I think he’s watching a lot of my film at home you know but n he’s doing a good job and um he got to continue that for us to keep

On growing and how much does it help for you some of your main guys to be able to get some time off in that fourth quarter going to back to back tomorrow night against you know one of the top teams in the west I mean it’s a growing point you

Know I think we took this game very serious and we try to attack it and um and get our guys some rest we know we got a tough one tomorrow we didn’t look past this you know this game because we know winning in the NBA is is tough so

Um we focus on this game and it went well and then halfway through it we were trying to say let’s get these guys some rest and um let’s get ready for tomorrow coming off a big win against the Lakers and then having a big one again tomorrow night against the uh

Leaders in the Western Conference against the timber wols a lot of teams they say might you know kind of have a let down for a game like tonight what does it say about the focus of this group to not have one um that’s I said a

It’s a growing point for us U you know we we know how easy it to look past pass this one and go past the first team in the west so we did a good job but we also we don’t want to be all we got to

Back to back tomorrow we land late um you know it’s okay to come out now we need to go out there they don’t care so we need to go out there and hoop you know they a tough team we know that and they playing really well so we got to

Get our guys going tomorrow and I know you mentioned that tray out but it seems like you really found your Rhythm you mentioned that after the last couple games and then Larry’s now back do you feel like you guys coming off the bench even though you don’t have Trey are kind

Of feeding up what the stars are doing and vice versa to where we’re kind of seeing what we saw last season right before all the injuries hit yeah you know um you know that’s we getting our little rhythm back with the swag and you know uh you know we almost fully got our

Bench back so U you know Larry was a big part of that and um you know my ankle you know like I tell everybody it’s important like everybody in M you know getting getting injured and then getting back in rhythm is tough it takes time you know uh sometimes you don’t have

Time and sometimes you do but you know I think that’s what we F fill in you know we finally gain time you know uh getting back to who we are you mentioned um bi watching some of your defensive tape have you noticed that naagi has progressively gotten more and more um

Attempts at at the GTA yeah I mean I see it it’s I think it worked a few times um but uh you know it’s fun um you know if if they looking out for me you know my dog he going he’s going to get get them

So uh he he’s he’s he’s funny with that one you mentioned um the importance of this you know that the starters didn’t have to play in the fourth quarter no one played more than like 25 minutes I think tonight going into the back to back um how how important do you think

Um CJ’s been as far as just the way he started these last couple games in the first quarter hey man CJ playing at a high level you know he’s shooting the ball at a really high level I mean he’s he’s doing what he’s supposed to do with us for us mean and um

I mean there’s nothing to say he hooping right now he just he out there flat out hooping and um I don’t know what he’s doing what his rhythm or his workout is he need to continue cuz he’s doing what we need him to do has being teammates

With CJ like past season and a half or whatever it is is it been like what you thought it would be is there anything different or anything like that no yeah you know I used to watched him you know Char blaz is when he played back in um

With um Dame you know I was a young cat watch him play they was in the playoffs and some tough playoffs and I used to watch CJ all the time and um you know he’s he’s a great human being and you know um one thing about him he know how

To score he got that score mentality and the sense of that’s something I’m not like mentality at and he he shows me you know the like he just shows me like it’s okay to miss shots it’s okay you know you going to work you going to get it

Back and you know he’s just he’s a great person um to he to learn from you know he do a lot of good things on and off the court he’s a great basket player and he also a great human being what’s your how much he’s adjusted he plays here so differently

Than he played in Port being able to figure out how to fit in here I think the main thing um you know um CJ came in when he first came in and said it’s it’s okay to coach me I’ve been I played every role um come like I I don’t know

His history obviously but to the fullest but he been a backup point guard he been a starter he been one of those guys that takes over games and also been a guy that uh play his role and I think that’s one thing he came in with his um with

The right mindset and he told us you know I I played every role and I understand what what this team needs and I’m going do what I was supposed to do and he he’s doing the right thing
