Nooooooo
Damn, such a long, strange journey. I remember my dad first telling me about this kid on the Spanish national team running circles around people and basically playing street ball.
He has had such an interesting but very good career. Hope he enjoys retirement
One of the gym rats of all time
Wish him the best, he was a joy to watch.
just fell to my knees in my bedroom
All-time good vibes guy
Damn hope he is alright, his post sounded like he was/is really going through some shit
What a bummer. Dude has been a pro for so long it actually make sense for him to hang it up especially if he was going through a lot.
Was responsible for one of the most fun non-LeBron Cavs seasons ever. Rubio has a ton of fans here forever
Rubio had a tremendous career, but I’ll never forget his rookie season before he got injured. I had never seen anything like that. He looked like an incoming superstar, and I’ll always wonder what might have been if he hadn’t gotten hurt. It might well have been the same, but he was such a breath of fresh air on a mediocre Wolves team. Thanks for the memories Ricky and I hope he continues to take care of himself and his mental health.
🥳🥳🥳 he had a solid career, sadly it was ruined by injuries in the last few years. Rubio ends another chapter for the Cavs.
Retire in Peace, King.
One of my favorite players ever. His rookie year was so fun playing in such a creative but productive way. That ACL injury was such a killer to his early development.
So heartbroken for this man. He’ll always be one of favorite players. Ricky’s triple double on Westbrook in one game followed by baiting Westbrook into fouling out in the next game is an all-time great Jazz moment.
Wish him the best in life moving forward
Now that his NBA career is over I can fully say he’s my favorite non Laker ever
[Gonna miss him and his smile](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZgU0cT_TfI)
He was never an all-star but he was always fun to watch no matter the team he played for.
I still remember waking up at 3/4 AM to watch him play when he landed on the NBA. He was the next big thing in Spain, and the sky was the limit for him.
Sadly injuries slowed his development, the Rubio/Love duo could have been a fun one.
Rubio was always a solid player. Unfortunately he and Johnny Flynn will forever be remembered as the two PGs that the Wolves drafted with Steph Curry available.
An all time creative passer, used to watch his highlights all the time. All the best to Ricky
Loved Rubio in Utah, he reached his full nba powers.
So long, Ricky. I was always such a huge supporter of him and he had a really impressive career, especially the back half
I thought (after he was drafted) Ricky would retire the Goat. Still had a good career, but dang, what could’ve been. Hope he’s okay.
First player born in the 90s to get drafted
The most underrated Phoenix Suns ever, in terms of importance. Before his arrival in Phoenix, the suns hadn’t surrounded Booker with a true point guard, or at least a semi-competent one. His point guard the season prior was Isiah Canaan.
Playing with Rubio moved Booker to an off-ball scoring role & saw his efficiency, fluidity, and overall “feel” for the game explode. The suns were organized. They played like a real NBA offense, and Booker was the main beneficiary. Ayton, bridges, Johnson, too.
The system Rubio ran in Phoenix is ultimately what planted the thought in CP3s mind that the Suns were a good fit for him, and the rest is history.
Our finals run, Star players wanting to play here, all the success we’ve had since then, it all started with Rubio transforming the young Suns offense into something worth watching in 2019-2020. When they parted, Booker told Ricky “I’ll never forget what you did for my career” and I hope he meant it.
Enjoy retirement to one of the great international players in history and a Suns legend in my mind.
#LA PISTOLA
Long live the Spanish Prince.
Remember when he guarded Harden by standing right behind him (and it kind of worked lol)?
Good times.
Gracias, Ricky!
Money doesn’t buy happiness
Damn, sucks to hear but glad he is doing better. Will never forget watching the 2008 gold medal game and 16yr old Ricky looking like one of the best players on the floor when he was out there against the redeem team.
Ricky Rubio is a big “what-if?” story for me. It’s often forgotten that he was a big prospect coming over from Liga and Euroleague where he was killin it at 16 or 17 years old. Even after the injuries he was such a good player and fun to watch. He’s often lumped in with Johnny Flynn when talking about Minny passing up on Steph, but at the time Ricky was the higher prospect.
Cheers to a great career Ricky
I remember seeing a grainy mixtape called [Ricky Rubio Born to be Wild](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12FOZsjWxwk) on YouTube 15 years ago. I thought when all was said and done that Rubio would end up being in the GOAT PG conversation. It’s very sad how many things have derailed his career. I wish him all the best in the future.
Good times. Enjoy retirement.
We will miss you Spanish Jesus
He was so good at running the bench with Kevin Love and Cedi Osman for the Cavs. Definitely noticed a big decline without him.
Goodnight spanish prince
The guy that made me root for the T.Wolves. Wishing him the best.
Mah boy
We’ll always remember the Bubble Suns.
Such a fun unique player. Was so easy to root for him and his teams. Some of the best Cavs moments the last few years involved him manning a cavalanche!
I remember when he was coming into the league and the hype around him. ESPN was running basically documentaries about him destroying grown men at 16. Damn I feel old rn
Viva el Rubio!
Damn injuries held back his Twilight yesrs.
I hope Ricky gets whatever help he needs for his mental health and he’s able to live a long and fulfilling life post-NBA career. Those “Rubio” chants in our arena against OKC during Donovan’s rookie season will forever be part of one of my favorite Jazz memories.
I think that Rubio’s personality changed while in the NBA; certainly his demeanor did. In the early mop head “Change this face” Timberwolves days he was the most fun and positive player in the NBA, always smiling. Somewhere along the line, he stopped smiling, his manner of speaking took an a more flat affect, and the joy seemed gone. I wonder what happened. Maybe it was just the death of his mother; his change seemed to roughly coincide with that. Some people just don’t get over an event like that.
