Honest question for you. Why do you listen to that podcast?

This doesn’t surprise me. I don’t listen to or watch his stuff, but it seems like Simmons has some contrarian take on any given subject.

Wait what do they classify him as then😭

  4. So what is Luka if not a guard? He plays like point guard on offense and defends the worst player on defense (mostly guards and wings).

Sports journalism, and more broadly online monetisation, is not really about giving honest takes. It’s about giving takes that will drive discussion, clicks, and ultimately ad revenue. It’s a load of shit.

  6. The old positions are dead, that’s why these classifications don’t really make much of a sense anymore.

I mean I agree with him. Luka is a point forward. Just like LeBron is and Magic was. Ben Simmons was also this model of player before the Monstars took his powers.

When you are 6’8+ you generally aren’t going to be matched up vs. 1s on defense. Doesn’t mean you even have to run a traditional 1 at all. But the Mavs have a traditional 1 in Kyrie as well as a shooting guard starting next to him in Exum (or Josh Green, or Tim Hardaway Jr.)

So Luka is a point forward. Jokic is a point center. They run point but they aren’t guards.

As a side note, I honestly wish the NBA would do away with the stupid “frontcourt/backcourt” divisions for All-Star starter or All-NBA selections. If an All-Star team starts 5 point guards or 5 centers will the world end? There are no stakes in the outcome of the All-Star game starting lineup anyway and the coach can quickly make substitutions to balance out the lineups.

  8. You know what maybe Bill’s right. Maybe Luka’s the backup Center we’ve been looking for all along

  9. Depends which side of the coin you look at.

On offense he’s a guard, on defense he’s not and never will be.
