Nets Postgame Live: Nets Slide Continues in Houston

Coming up the Brooklyn Nets struggles continue this time losing on the road to the Houston Rockets highlighted by their two best scorers male Bridges and cam Thomas struggling mightily from the field we break down the game plan that worked so so well for the Rockets all coming up

Started and Doug where we get started is with the familiar theme for this Brooklyn Nets team losing basketball games okay fine but also losing them in a fashion that feels like we are now in a trend territory and far away from a blip we’re spiraling baby we spir we’re

Spiraling oh baby we’re spiraling downward look I’ve been a fan of the since 1958 I’ve been telling everyone about this all day since 1958 been a fan I don’t remember it ever being worse than where it is right now uh 10 they’ lost 10 of their last 12 the only two

Wins in there were against the Detroit Pistons which were basically like must-win playoff style wins just to save face when it came uh to to their actual just like overall NBA standing and we just get a lot more of the same I mean sort of a different kind of loss for the

Nets tonight than some of the other ones so and we’ll talk about what some of the differen were but on a high level this continues the struggle you know the just ultimate Struggle Bus that they’ve been on here for weeks and weeks now it’s been a difficult part of the of the

Schedule we knew that already these are good teams you know last couple losses at least are very good teams that they’re losing to but they haven’t done themselves any favors with other games where they you know could have maybe won and when you don’t win the easy ones the

Hard ones look even worse yeah and so and that’s I think where the Nets are now so we want to talk a lot about the game and like where specifically some of the struggles are coming from but yeah like if you’re out there worried about sort of the death spiral you’re not

Alone like the Nets are in a are in a very very um precarious place right now 112 101’s the final on the road and again as we’ kind of said in a lot of these games recently in the losses the the box score the final score does not

Tell you the entire story here is it defitely just a footnote Doug nor has been a fan of this franchise since nine years before it was founded so always good to know when you get on the ground floor sometimes you dig down underneath the foundation and you say no I’ll wait

Here for this team to arrive that’s sometimes you get there early sometimes you get there on the ground floor you get there early buddy want those good tickets right you want the prim first sorry first of this game though ultimately where we wanted to start with this is there’s things that Houston did

In this game that that really affected the Brooklyn Nets and we can talk about that from a coaching perspective later on but cam Thomas joins male Bridges now who had been kind of the spotlight here over the last stretch of games and his struggles and getting into a bit of a

Low from a shooting standpoint well now cam Thomas is also struggling when your two best scorers that are 20 plus Point providers on a night in Night Out basis come into a game like this and go off for a combined oh let’s make sure we get these numbers right five has didn’t take

A lot to add in cam Thomas’ contributions for 25 on the night here it’s just from an individual performance level this is something that you can controls an individual player and both these guys just did not have a single opportunity in this game to get going shooting’s

Been horrible for these guys I mean specifically I’ll put start with Bridges just because he’s on the court for a lot longer and takes a lot more shots he’s supposed to be the onea offensive option he just hasn’t been um for a long stretches now I mean it’s been more it’s

Been more not than you know been more off than on for him this season for sure 13 points against the Pelicans 15 points here against Houston right like you had a s I was going to cap the middle walking but he barely played I mean like

But for a guy that we thought would be averaging you know mid to high 20s and points we’re so far away from that now that you can’t even really see it right and beginning of the year I thought it was you know or and it was kind of you

Know dip in usage which is still kind of carried over like he is taking fewer shots this year but the efficiency is also down like he’s shooting worse from the field he’s shooting worse from three he’s shooting worse at the line like all of the efficiency stuff is gone and it’s

Just been a massive struggle and when he’s going to struggle like this shooting we’ve said this time and time again and and not of all of them are bad looks some are some are pressing like I feel at times he’s pressed but not all of them some are just easy Rhythm shots

That he’s just missed he misses a ton of layups like all season long he’s missed layups like literally the basket stuff has probably been the most alarming right it’s horrible it’s bad it’s horrible he can’t finish the basket and he really doesn’t get fouled so like when he when you’re not finishing the

Basket and you’re also not getting fouled it’s the literal worst of Both Worlds um and if he if this is going to be sort of what happens on a semi nightly basis the Nets will just continue to struggle they can’t like they don’t have enough juice they just

Don’t have enough scoring it’s and so that’s why I want to put Bridges first before cam I mean Cam’s stuff is just so like like ioly rough here in the short term but overall they need Bridges to be a semblance of the guy that he was last

Year and this Rockets game and the rockets definitely had a plan here right like there was definitely a defensive plan plan to like make it very difficult on these guys but overall still going five for 18 from the field is just not a recipe for the Nets to be able to win

They’re gonna they’ll struggle in every game if that’s going to be the shooting line for him yeah and before we even get to cam Thomas here in the last nine games only once has male Bridges gone over 37% from Beyond The Arc the three-point shooting has certainly been

Far more streaky and far more off than on going back to last year in those 27 games that he had for him as well but then you go inside of it for male Bridges you know we had said this going back a couple of games ago before as we

Get to cam here that well if your shot isn’t falling part of the reason why you’re going to struggle to keep some guys on the qut is because you can’t impact the game in other ways well three assist assists for male Bridges is not good enough like and I said this a

Couple games ago with him as well your shot has not been falling okay and and part of it is just you don’t necessarily have the other guys to go to on this roster and we understand that but I I wouldn’t sit here and say right now we

Know his defense has not been up to the level that we thought it was going to be gets four rebounds three assist to go along with a really bad shooting performance well that just makes you a detriment right right out there on the court and I don’t think we ever

Associated male as not being able to lean on other facets of his game if the shots weren’t falling that’s why he falls into this category and then we look at cam Thomas it’s like yeah kind of the same thing can you impact the game in other ways when your shot isn’t

Falling tonight cam did tie his season high with five assists but again 0 for seven and then he became I think just almost aggressively timid around trying to get those looks though seven shots over 17 minutes a game action is still a lot well and one more thing about

Bridges that has been like another problem and then we’ll talk about cam it’s actually less this is actually not a problem for cam um but it’s a sort of a different issue with Bridges his biggest problem too is he just like doesn’t draw like I don’t like you don’t

Get the sense that defenses are afraid of him right he doesn’t ever Garner doubles no one ever double teams him no one ever traps him like they just kind of just stick a defender on him they let him do what he’s gonna do and it mostly just hasn’t worked right this isn’t like

I don’t think this is scheme adjusted issues I think he’s just struggled right like there’s some there’s some there’s you know there there’s some issues like where like you know where they’re probably bringing slightly better Defenders against him but it’s not like there’s like this excessive trapping

Scheme to like get him out of rhythm it’s kind of just like he’s just not making shots it’s not there’s there’s nothing else to it really which is even more troubling honestly and the one other note on Mel before we we we’ll take a break and go into Cam Thomas here

In a second but also because you mentioned about you’re not sending doubles at him he also isn’t a guy that goes through the of the defense he takes he takes the roundabout way right he wants to get into the paint maybe hit his elbow jumper his mid-range game and

Also try to go towards the Baseline and work at the basket we mentioned the finishing or lack thereof for him but but in the end he doesn’t draw that sinking defensive attention where all of a sudden it’s a couple of guys trying to contest him at The Rim or even a

Singular Defender really having to aggressively aggressively contest him at The Rim it feels more like you pass the Baton on down the line and then you see if m is going to finish because the the other big difference here is too only three trips to the line in this game and

That’s been a theme for him all season coming up here in a second what were the struggles for cam Thomas how alarming now is this trend for him and can he dig himself out of this rut as the lack of shooting performances start to stack up

For Brooklyn we’ll get into that in just one second all right before we get to that the show is sponsored by better help look we’re into the new year sometimes we just get start thinking in the New Year about how to change ourselves um expect instead of just expanding what

Lockon MBA to get 10% off your first month that’s betterhelp hp.com lockon MBA so as we continue the postgame podcast 112 101 loss for the Brooklyn Nets now losers 10 out of their less 12 and it would be worse some you know we thought about being a part of history

With the Detroit Pistons well guess what if not for those two matchups with them this streak would be a lot longer it seems like because that may be the only team that they can beat right now when we turn our attention over to cam Thomas I think the one difference that I’ll

Also say here and why talking about male first made sense this is I almost I’m not okay with it it’s not good but I also think that you expect this from a young player a young player is going to go through shooting slumps a young player is going to go go through

Adjustment periods trying to fold in other aspects of his game trying to be more defensively minded right so when it even though Mel uh sorry Cen does have another bad shooting game here and extends Beyond just this one I’m not actually as concerned with him as I am

With male because there’s a level of expectation with M Night in that night out in consistency this is kind of what a a microwave scorer like cam can go through sometimes you may hit some slumps and that’s okay it’s funny tonight I was actually really encouraged by how he played you

Know know like back back out the 0 for seven Ian he only played 17 minutes and I I you know he obviously the Run was cut short and they just whatever whatever happens with the rotations here I actually thought from a just on the court stuff we saw a lot of things from

Him that actually showed growth I’m positive I didn’t track this one for one but I’m positive that in the first quarter into the second quarter it was the most passes per minute that he’s made this whole season I I know it for a fact he already had machine right he was

Get in the lane and find somebody find somebody find somebody he was reading react much more than we’ve seen getting the ball out of his hands in the right spots like drive it wasn’t there don’t force something look for look for someone else had five assists in 17

Minutes I mean that’s easily as most assists per minute and and I was tell I was thinking this even before the assists kind of started coming he was just making significantly more passes that is a key expansion to his game that people that will help him right like if

If there’s going to be an understanding that he will like if you double him he’ll pass out of it or he’ll be able to notice it sooner like that will unlock a lot of different things for him it didn’t tonight I mean didn’t make any shots but again when I

Look at his game on a high level that you know if you’re not box score watching and you’re just watching what’s what’s happening on the court like the he the stylistically it was very different for him tonight in a good way I think yeah and so I am not as

Discouraged with this play from him but you can’t help but notice that the guy is 0 for seven this game 0 for 11 last game and he was seven for 18 in against OKC but if you go sort of shot by shot he he was one of his last six so over

The over the last like four and last eight nine quarters he’s one uh one for 24 from the field and that’s a really really bad struggle now that’s not likely to continue so that’s okay but when you combine that shooting with male Bridges the Nets can’t win they

Can’t win they don’t enough scor they don’t have enough other guys it’s like not even close honestly and it’s just such a problem for them right now even in these last few games too for for cam Thomas just because again like I I I don’t think that I agree with you first

Of all that his style of play was actually some of the best that I’ve seen from him so far in his young career right like so like so different right like you saw we’re both seeing the same thing here right this is this is going

To be a very small thing well the first point I’ll just make quickly is that he also got to the line four times and knocked down four of his free throws as he usually does in 17 minutes so again the per minute numbers are all actually

Good stuff but there was there was a multiple times in this game where he was on the ball in the offensive set now he also fell into a couple of iso lows especially like at the end of quarters right last shot opportunities but there were several sequences where he was

Actually doing a bit of directing about clearing somebody out of the paint wanting to get someone out to come out to set the screen for him typically what we’ve seen and what’s been frustrating in his development is when cam gets on the ball it’s cam time right and and

Everybody else kind of gets caught waiting to see what the end result is going to be try attack for boards or rebounds this felt like he really was in the flow of the offense including trying to get some guys into position and maybe help set up where he wanted to get that

To go so from just a learning perspective from a development perspective it does look like we saw something here tonight where Cam Thomas is now more comfortable and that maybe that is just what it is for him so far in his career he’s still trying to get

To the place where he feels confident enough that my number one bag is shooting so for me to go away from that I need to feel like I really have a grasp on on where I’m going to go on where other players are going to be because nothing looks worse for a

Shooter than passing up good looks and having turnovers right passing up good looks and making careless plays so I I there was something in this game that did just really feel positive for him on an individual level in spite of the shooting WS he’s going through right now

And and yeah that’s a great Point like if if there’s going to be growth in his game you would what you would expect like if he’s thinking about a different aspect of the game that he’s really never thought about too much which is like passing and by the way I I know

Because he never passes like the guy’s really never passed for the entire time he’s been in Brooklyn and if you’re starting to add this new element it makes sense that there would be some bumps in the road but the discomfort and the the downside the short-term downside

Is what should pay off long-term gains if you continues to do it so this is the this part of the game I’m actually have a lot of patience for if it was honestly if it was like 0 for 18 and no no assists and no passes I we’d be having a

Different conversation right but it’s just not that and I and we just have you have to that’s is where it’s very important to watch the games too and to see like sort of what’s happening on the court and know that when you get down to the box score it looks awful right four

Points on 07 shooting but if you watched it you just know that there’s something else happening one more thing about the shooting too because I want to get into this we wanted to get into the shingon uh defense congrats to e adoko like or adoka like he it’s so Brazen it’s amazing the

Defensive scheme that they ran against them almost insulting I mean it is insulting in many ways but it’s insulting but correct it’s like the correct insult right it’s exactly what you should do as a coach which is you got one guy out here you shoot all the

Shots Dori andin Smith yeah and we’ll see what happens right like Dori andin Smith shot 10 shots in the first quarter his like season high was like 14 or something like that because they played drop defense and just said have at it hos and take all the shots you want

Every no one else gets any you can take all the ones it was so Brazen and it totally worked and you you just kind of love when you see stuff like that like you don’t love when it’s against your team but it’s just such it’s just excellent excellent coaching and I

Thought that the unfortunate part about that too was because it was 100% And and the Nets bought into it and at you know at a certain point you think Dorian finy Smith can knock down three-point shots right so all all it takes to force the adjustment back is a couple of those

Looks go down and you you maybe force Houston to make a change or they continue to live with it because you say fine you’re going to if we’re going to lose on a heater night from Dorian finy Smith so be it there was a sequence in that first quarter though Dorian fin

Smith misses his first two wide openen shots and he immediately switches and starts going at the basket when he gets the ball in the perimeter whether it’s a Defender there or not gets two quick layups very good hits hits his next three-pointer and then goes completely

Cold again and it was one of those things too where whether it’s on a coaching level or on an individual level of sometimes you know we always say hey wide open looks you’ll take them every time you live with the results but sometimes you have to kind of read what

What’s being done to you and and force the issue in another another Direction and for a brief moment I thought Dorian was picking up on that and making the change but then you end up getting back into kind of a similar pattern here which is not solely because oh it was

Wide open lanes and you could have attacked at The Rim there is also a player coming up here in a second that we’ll talk about for the Houston Rockets that really made it difficult for the Brooklyn Nets offensively and defensively foul trouble a lot of things occurred here that Houston just frankly

Did incredibly well this isn’t a game that the Brooklyn Nets lost for all of their mistakes this was a well executed game plan and a talented team in Houston we’ll cover that in just one second all right before we get to that we’ll tell you about our friends over on

Questions in we’ll interact with all of you the loyal fans a lot of people in here misery loves company Doug as we always like to say and we’ll get into that following the conclusion of this episode before we get specifically into player performance for Houston last note

On on the on the coaching and that matchup and those decisions that Houston made that really flustered Brooklyn yeah yeah one the one last thing about that they vaugh did make a rotational change in the second half where he actually subbed out DFS really fast and brought

In cam Thomas to punish them in pick and roll and to get Claxton in the pick and roll instead of having shingun just be able to sit there and not have to like really cover anybody on it so like there was a it didn’t really work like but I

Mean but it was a change right it was a recognition of like hey we can’t keep letting this happen and so I know look we dig vaugh for a lot of different stuff like that was a move to to kind of press the issue back the other way they

Like sort of they were at like sort of no hope at that point anyway but anyway we can move into the shagon piece but I did want to I did want to not to there was an adjustment around that it just was way too little too late probably

Yeah and it was a little bit of an eye opener or a reminder about what are the limitations of adorian finny Smith well here’s an example of it right he’s not going to be able to necessarily make that adjustment for himself and start to punish that team uh shenon in this one

Wouldn’t you know it 34 minutes 11 of 17 eight of 10 at the line eight rebounds four assists two steals a block and didn’t really it does not again box score does not tell you the whole story here because he just dictated terms throughout this game he stacked up fouls

On everybody there was no matchup that you were going to go to here there was no double teams that were going to really impact it the one thing that kind of bothered me as this one wore on a little bit is that the Brooklyn had started out this game with attention to

Detail being close on Perimeter Shooters right trying to stay with your assignments as this thing worked on well was basically shenon hey do I want to sit on the perimeter and knock down my shots do I want to go in the paint and set up in the low block and get some

Easy buckets there did seem to be just a wear down effect here for the NS from a defensive perspective where they kind of at some point just threw their arms up and said yeah like we just don’t have an answer to this problem and we don’t have

A solution maybe like the hey Dorian finy Smith it’s on you to make these shots right there wasn’t really a decision to kind of change that up and force an issue back in Houston yeah this is a real this kind of problem this archetype player is a big problem for

The Nets like got like sort of a stretch big that can operate around the basket they don’t have lots of solutions for guys like this I frankly not a lot of guys like this exist I mean he’s pretty unique there’s only a few guys that sort of operate

At like as a center like him he had four assists it probably easily could have been eight like they had they’ve missed a bunch of just easy looks that he passed out of the post as well um it’s just a particular problem it’s very methodical it’s extremely strong it’s

Like deceivingly strong around the rim where you just can’t really move him he moves Nick Clon completely to the floor you see that play my God he’s powerful he like and and he has and he just has like a really soft touch like a like he

Gets the yish comparison every once in a while he’s got a really soft touch around the rim he understands angles really well and he’s a problem really for everyone but this kind of guy has given the Nets problems also this year like they just can’t really claxon’s not

Big enough to really handle him when he starts putting the ball on the deck and when you get up and around the rim he’s really controlled like claxon’s a good shop blocker he’s a good weak side shot blocker he’s a good front-facing shop blocker too but like when you have a guy

Who understands like I can get you up in the air I can just finish on the angles around you I can see where you’re going like they’re going to struggle with that Claxton excuse me sharp who’s a little bit bigger doesn’t have the footwork to really stay with him so they just they

Just really had no answer I knew this was gonna be a problem like they just going into this game they just The Bigs have been okay I mean claxon’s been a little worse on defense this year Sharp’s been good or better but I just like knew for sure that this guy was

Gonna be problematic because he just he represents the things that these guys don’t really defend that well right which is like singular centers that can actually get you down in the post and again too it’s and it was 30o performance for him right like you you

Knew that this was as you said going to be a problem now you don’t expect to shoot under 40% from the field under 30% from Beyond The Arc right it goes right back to the Top Male Bridges cam Thomas you know you go inside the box score and

You think about well cam Johnson in 32 minutes was six to 13 three of six from Deep 15 points he had two points going into the fourth quarter now on the one hand you can look at it and say hey he he was kind of a part of that attempt to

Keep things close and have that surge but that actually felt like a somewhat cam Johnson typical type of performance this season sometimes when he’s giving you his points they’re not really coming at the critical moments which is earlier in the game when they are saying dorany

Smith we’re going to sit back off of you okay someone else needs to step up when you have guys like Bridges and Thomas struggling someone else needs to step up Johnson stays quiet until effectively it really doesn’t matter anymore so I it’s unfortunate to look at it inside this

Box score and and you can see it I nobody cleared 20 points for Brooklyn first of all a lot of double digit guys but somebody had to take the Reigns here last thing for me at least before we close out is just on the idea of coming

Into this game you know I I I mentioned on Twitter one of the strengths the Nets have and need to utilize more of is their depth it doesn’t mean the matchups are all perfect but we’ve we’ve now talked about this a little bit more developing the young players I got real

EXC excuse me got real excited and choked up when Jaylen Wilson came in in the first wave of Subs Off the Bench now Watford ends up playing 20 minutes in this game but Wilson doesn’t see the floor again until garbage time and only plays five minutes now Brooks has had

Some cold shooting performances whatever the idea of only being nine men deep it just feels like this is a flawed Approach at some point you you mentioned that the the minutes that rookies have played for Brooklyn it’s almost nothing and Wilson really being the prime example is a 23y old rookie Now’s the

Time to to see what you have in him and there needs to be some dedication to that the same thing we talk about with Cam Thomas from a high level I I I’m just I continue to be a little bit surprised that you’re not willing to go

Deeper into the rotation just to see what else do we have here what other combinations could work and at worst after a losing game like this you could say but we did see some nice things from a couple of young guys that we can carry forward you know I thought about this a

Little bit after the podcast because we talked about like this rotational piece and the younger players and I actually want to walk back one thing I said about this because the one thing I didn’t factor in in the original comment and if you didn’t listen yesterday it was

Basically just talking about how when the Nets have played OKC and they play Houston like all these other teams are playing young guys right like I we see Aman Thompson tonight right we see cam Whitmore for Houston the other night against Houston against OKC you see uh kasean Wallace right against the pels

You see Dyson Daniels and and and Jordan Hawkins like the list goes on like all these guys that are just young players that they’re developing that are re in the real rotation one thing I left out of that comment and and this is a knock against the Nets and it’s not

Necessarily against vaugh necessarily but it’s just like the way they’re built those other teams are are built a little better to withstand the growing pains from Young Players because they have such high-end talent that they can pair with those guys at times that it keeps

The floor so high that you can like the leash is longer about being able to play some of these dudes because it’s like yeah I can play I’m gonna make this up because maybe these rotations don’t it’s like yeah I can play kasan Wallace but

It’s like I also have Shay and I have L dor and I have all these like other dudes who are just like really J Jaylen Williams like who who are just going to make up for the problems that are presented right and the Nets don’t because the Nets don’t have those

Guys I can sort of understand the reluctance to do it because it is going to look so bad right like you just don’t have the floor razors around them and so that’s the one difference I still want to see the young guys I’m just saying there is like one slight difference here

Which is those other teams that do it they pair them with like super high level NBA guys or you just know those super high level NBA guys are going to come in and make up for the mistakes later right like and then that’s just don’t have

Those guys and by the way it’s I I I had that thought around Fred Van Fleet tonight because whatever he is or is not he is he’d be the best player you would take him first from pedigree experience Championship experience and he’s the kind of guy because he is also the on

Ball point guard and he sets the table you can look at him and say when these young guys come in you’re going to kind of re them in right you’re going to keep things under control keep the game flowing in the right direction and I do

Agree with you I want to see the young guys for Brooklyn all the way down the line but that’s actually why I stuck specifically with a guy like Jaylen Wilson as opposed to saying Whitehead and Clowny as well they’re both 19 years old one off an injury one needs you know

Needs to develop a lot I still do want to see them but there is a difference between 19y old guys who are getting some reps consistently down at g- league and a guy like Jaylen Wilson who’s now up on this roster like he has now crossed the threshold for me of being

Deserving of getting 10 plus minutes you know a night getting real minutes real sample size and we saw him kind of explode the other game in meaningful minutes that could actually have an impact here so listen it’s probably organizational it’s not just a coaching thing here but it’s

Something that I do continue to Monitor and watch as we know this team is losing basketball games so leaning on the veterans becomes harder to quote defend when the results aren’t there you keep playing 500 basketball or a little bit better then I get it it’s hard for me to

Push for it but that that’s the other side of it here now you’re losing so now the development needs to happen yeah and I and I like I said it’s it’s why I understand that they’re sort of in a precarious situation I still want to see

The Young play players I’m just I’m I’m nodding at least to like why this Situation’s a little harder right like they just their motivations and the way that they’re built are just slightly different so look another loss the Nets continue to spiral here we we’re with we’re with everyone out there like this

It’s no fun to watch these games and just and feel like they’re going to lose I do think that they’re going to turn some of this around here I think they’re going to get to Paris I think there’s going to be like a long break there

Might be a coaching change not sure but I don’t think like this is a forever thing but hey look when you’re in the middle of these losing streaks it can be really really tough not going to be tough for you out there to subscribe on YouTube where and make sure you

Everything for the most recent game and your questions from the fan base and tonight the Brooklyn Nets are in danger of falling out of the playin rankings and oh by the way don’t control their own draft Capital we dive in on that problem coming up next you are locked on Nets your daily

Conditions why they do apply and Doug as we dive in welcoming everybody Live on YouTube at locked on nets for all your quotes questions quandaries and complaints we did start thinking about how this losing streak and some of the other teams in the NBA Eastern Conference could start really Weighing

On the Brooklyn Nets and this Outlook if they can’t get themselves back on track yeah yeah we talked yesterday well briefly you know depending on when you’re listening to this if you’re listening on YouTube or if you’re listening on the podcast Fe which is coming a day later we talked about this

Already the Nets are in a super precarious situation with where they stand now in the standings and things are not going to get easier here because the motivations around the Eastern Conference are just clearly shifting and the talent might be shifting also in a way that’s very very detrimental to this

Team if you look at what’s happening just throughout the landscape right now like the at the end at following the loss uh to the Pelicans we’re sitting ninth overall in the East right excuse me the loss to the Rockets we’re sitting ninth overall on the East which you’re

Like okay well it’s still on the play in the problem is that there’s three teams below them that are maybe or even definitely heading in different direction which is up so Atlanta Hawks they’re coming off the win against OKC they get Jaylen Johnson back definitely a Difference Maker for them they are

Going to keep trying here I know people have talked about them trading dejonte Murray they’re not going to like they’re not bottoming out and they have talent Trey is a good player I know people dig him all the time he’s an awesome player and jayen Johnson’s a great fit there

Too that team is gonna start making moves also you get Toronto who trades for uh IQ and RJ Barrett and is gonna start them and has already said hey we’re gonna give this a month and see how it works with SE yakum we might resign them like we’ll see how this goes

That’s going to be a team they just won again on Wednesday that’s going to be a team that’s definitely going to be wanting to win also in the short term this is very problematic for the Nets to really stick around this playoff picture they kind of needed also a couple of

These teams to wave wave the White Flag also as well and that does not appear to be the case and that’s going to be a problem for Brooklyn and already on top of that I mean we know the top of the Eastern Conference all those teams the

Celtics the Bucks the 76ers the Miami Heat have gotten themselves on track obviously but when you introduce Orlando and the Pacers right both 19 and 14 right now you know there was a world coming into this season we kind of talked about oh Pacers and Nets maybe

Kind of in that pecking order around the eighth and Ninth seed as those teams start to put some distance between you I mean the Eastern Conference just looks more competitive now right it’s 19 and 15 down there in the eighth seed right now at the New York Knicks and then you

Mentioned some of those surging teams so it does put the Nets in a precarious spot here when you look at the last 10 games for all of these teams they’re all 500 or better the Nets are the only outlier here going the wrong way Orlando Magic have struggled over the last 10

The other side of this too as we know is that the Nets don’t have any of the control over their own assets so they can’t necessarily make that trade deadline decision regardless of what the return is And Trades they could make get rid of veterans Dorian Smith Royce

O’Neal we’ve done this list you know chapter and verse okay what what does that mean right what does it mean to bottom out you’re not going to have control over your own draft capital and I think it then gets you to the point of what is the decision

You make then do you do you get overc committed to wanting to salvage this season or do you just stop thinking about the bad decision you made trading all your picks away to Houston for James Harden and just go it’s over we made that choice there is no getting them

Back and we we talked about the one scenario where we trade male Bridges to Houston to get your pcks back guess what Houston goes oh we don’t have to do anything these picks are ripening on the vine as we speak right now this is the other problem with even that like one

Scenario which I thought was we all thought was like super unlik anyway right was just to trade it for the for the Knicks um which was to all of a sudden now Houston looks at these picks and they’re like oh that’s that’s gonna be a lottery pick like like the Nets are

Headed for the lottery here and and we’re headed back to like this you know sort of that Boston situation from years ago where it was like oh hey you know you know they’re go They’re gonna be awesome picks for the Celtics that they’re going to be able to refor like

Sort of like remake their franchise on which they basically ended up doing and that’s the situation that the Nets are in now it’s a very very scary spot um and it just doesn’t make you feel great to look at where these other Eastern Conference teams are and know now like when you’re even

Scoreboard watching on some of them like Toronto like Atlanta like Atlanta like I said they just beat OKC like that’s a nice win right like Toronto just took care of Memphis with jawb back like these are kind of quality wins uh getting on their Ledger with teams that

Have motivations and I think part of what we were counting on with the Nets and it probably was incorrect was that there would be more teams that kind of lost motivation as the season went on but I just don’t think that’s going to be the case at least now January 3D a

Month before the trade dead month and a few days before the trade deadline like they are that appears very much like it’s going the opposite direction coming up here in a second I’ll explain a small Silver Lining about more competitive teams around the NBA for the Brooklyn Nets and also some clarifying language

Questions and comments from you guys here in a second a lot of people are in the chat room and we always appreciate everyone coming on these lives to support us um the one thing about more competitive teams in the East and Out West as well is if the Nets are going to

Make that decision about ad Dorian finy Smith Royce O’Neal it is good that it is going to be far more of a buyer Market than it is a sellers Market when it comes to the deadline the Nets should have suitors the flip side of this would be that there were reports from W

Essentially saying the Brooklyn Nets are going to be buyers they are committed to building around male Bridges and to building around as him as one of those Cornerstone pieces of this franchise going forward so the question becomes in the short term are they going I I don’t

They’re not making the big move I don’t think they’re making the extravagant move but we had talked about kind of over the past couple of weeks of like would they make a margin move here would they try to bring in something that just helps you get a better sample size

Around which pieces should fit and stay which guys you’re going to bring back out of all the one-year deals you brought in this off season are you still I think you are started in the camp of are you still in the camp of like not wanting to go down that road of spending

Some amount of draft Capital to bring in a marginal veteran point guard that just helps you kind of stabilize something on your team yeah I this is the other one that’s too it’s like there’s if they’re going to go this route um it’s it’s it’s probably worth it at least to try a

Little bit to be interesting right like and I think that probably is worth some draft Capital even if it would pain me to do it because I think it’s probably a bad I do think it’s the definition of throwing good money after bad for sure but this is also a long timeline here

The draft pick situation is like this for years now for them and so I just don’t know how you can kind of how you can do it any other way I think they’re probably going to be forced to probably spend a pick pick or two or more to get

In relevant players around Bridges if that’s going to be the plan just because I think the timeline is just too long if it was a one-year thing and you could just wait on one year with these Houston picks I I would think about it differently but it’s not one year it’s

Like three years right it’s it’s it’s between the swaps and the picks that they owe it’s it’s this a multi-year problem like this is going to be a problem for years and with that in mind you probably do have to use some of the capital to just make your to put butts

And seats and make the team interesting otherwise it’s it will be a lot of what we’re looking at now and I just don’t think that’s an acceptable basketball product and that’s I think that’s the problem and that’s what I wonder about the decision that they’ll make here one

Thing in terms of not having control of their own picks I’ll highlight Jeffrey here this draft class is trash I wouldn’t be worried about giving up a lottery pick I I I will say that in this moment the the outlook on the 2024 where the GI where the Nets don’t have their

Own pick it does does not look like a particularly strong draft class but that’s that’s kind of a micro statement just around it’s your choice to do whatever you want with the assets that you control not having it it it it still leaves you in an in between waters where

You don’t get to make the decision and say this is the path we want to go down for better or worse right we don’t get to make that choice now because we don’t have it anyway now maybe your hand into being interesting and bringing in a

Player so you know what’s worse than a first round pick and a bad draft no first round pi a bad draft first round I get it that not all drafts are stocked and absolutely loaded but the Nets are also in this situation where they need every pick yeah like

They need extra picks now and they’re the opposite because they need to have so many bites of the Apple to try to claw back some Talent of which they have very little right like high-end like high-end pedigree Talent right they have gu they have guys we like I get it’s not

That it’s it’s mostly like they don’t have any super There’s No Superstar on on this roster at all and really the one of there’s two ways to go get Superstars you trade for them or you draft them and the trade for them cost you an absolute ton because most people already know

They’re basically Superstars or close to it or you draft them and that’s don’t have ability to draft it so they got to overpay in the trade market but how do we know they already did it and by the way the the free agent piece like that

Is so rare now like the KD and Kyrie free agency thing it just doesn’t happen these guys all extend and then they wait later to figure out what the plan is like it’s just not it’s just these Superstars don’t hit free agency like unrestricted free agency they just don’t

So I get it this draft class isn’t amazing you’d still like the pick yeah like you like it you’d like to try and Jonathan who highlighted the the W information reminded everybody about the W information in the chat and building around Bridges what is a key player

Brooklyn could go after at the deadline that’s reachable in terms of it and the dovetail of this for me is while I I accept that that can be the premise for the Brooklyn Nets that they and they they did signal this going can go back to the offseason they want to compete

They want to go for the playoffs so in that regard you look at the current state and you go okay how how do we fix it how do we improve because that’s still the goal here the one thing the one wrinkle about to me is if you want

To go after kind of a a higher level Guy this is where the Nick Claxton Factor does come into play here because if you don’t want to give up everything in terms of your draft Capital then you start to think about restructuring your team making it better making it

Different but trying to restructure this team a little bit on the Fly here to get this back half of the season to be an indication of where you can go for the next couple of years with M and cam as a part of your court and you’re saying

Like you’re saying using claxon as a trade piece that’s you’re say you say hey a couple of first round picks here in this trade so we don’t have to give you a couple of those Phoenix picks that we’d rather hold on to right right and it’s a little softer Landing with him

Because sharp has played really well and maybe you think Clowney’s like a little you know half a step closer to being able to play or like you know maybe a season away from getting rotation minutes or something like that so like trading him now that you don’t get as

High of a price tag because like centers and you know like him aren’t aren’t Superstars but yeah I think that that’s pretty clear to me that I I actually feel like that’s almost for sure what they’re gonna do is trade him I I I’d be

Kind of shocked if they threw a lot of money at him at this point with the way sharp has played I just don’t think they have to anymore and so and also something that you pointed out this is going back to when we had Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving Stars you pointed it

Out back then like everybody looks better it wasn’t just Clon everybody everybody looks better when you have superstars on your team because their job is so much easier and it’s that you know so much more effective to be able to get your shots in your looks because

It’s all wide open Clon is still a great defensive value but I think we’ve seen right offensively he he’s still developing and there’s still aspects of his game he likes to take shots at at the end of garbage time when the games don’t matter anymore but but it does

Look different now that there is no Kevin Durant there is no Kyrie there is no Harden and you can kind of I think sell other teams on the idea of hey you’ve seen the sample size of how absolutely Elite he can be on both ends

If you have one of those stars are ready to pair him with one of the teams I’ll just throw this out here now for the sake of fun uh I think the Charlotte Hornets actually would be a good team for not only because it’s a little bit

Of a homecoming for him because he’s from that area but you already have a star on that team you want to bring in more you want to get young Talent around him like that’s actually a team that I think would make the kind of move like that that’s more about their long-term

Than it is about a short-term team looking to go to the play play off this year and make a run you mean for Claxton yeah oh yeah I think I disagree with that I they have Mark Williams there and they have Nick Richards there I’m not

Sure they’d be in the market for it um so I think I’d push back on that a little bit but overall the conceit of like where he where where he to get TR traded I think that they really should push for that at this point like they

They they they have to try to take whatever they have like anyone with value and try to turn it into something especially when they have a guy that can kind of come in and play like Den W’s kind of tanking his value I’m not sure what’s going to happen here with him

Right um I’m not sure what happens with the I think the the the veteran guys like DFS and Royce will still have a landing spot right I don’t know if it’s gonna be if it’s not gonna be anything amazing it’s gonna be the some Contender so the first round pick’s gonna be bad

Like basically a second but like in general I do think we end up seeing that move I have a couple start here that I can bring up but go ahead uh no the last just the last note was that um on when it comes to Dorian fin Smith when it

Comes to Roy I think the other thing between now the the deadline that this team is going to continue to struggle from a wins and loss standpoint is getting Lonnie Walker healthy and back on the court and even looking at a guy like Dennis Smith Jr like I we I like

Both these guys we like both those guys they’re both on oneye deals if you don’t think that they’re a part of that long term and specifically with Smith Jr where there’s just injury history does follow him again grab the value you can get on these guys right now especially

If you want to start to look to some of the younger players or if you’re going to make moves if you’re going to make moves for a key name a bigger name well these other guys matter these role players are showing that they can be valuable other rosters uh let’s throw up

The first one you had here start you said this starting lineup was good how dare you Doug how dare you not only not only did you you lie to us you insulted our intelligence well look the starting lineup was the best that fiveman unit was the best five Manute unit they had I

It’s not me saying it I mean all the numbers say it pass passed the eye test too like I that’s not it was not even a hot take it’s like that’s just true that’s just what it that’s what it was and you know conflating the idea that

It’s like a good NBA start lineup or it’s the best lineup the Nets have I mean those are two totally different things right like is the starting five a high-powered top F like top lineup in the league dude of course not like but when it comes to like optionality around

The what the Nets have was that lineup clearly the best yeah of course like that’s just not even a that’s not even like a hot take I it’s like I’m I could be dismissive of this I think to some degree now that being said we also said

I probably wouldn’t even run out this lineup anymore like I was like let’s try dsj so we have some point of attack you know like let’s swap try try cam Thomas for dwy like try different things I don’t think you can I don’t think pairing deny and cam Thomas is a good

Idea like that’s been a total epic disaster but they had PA out there tonight with male Bridges and they get paired every game they get paired every game it gets slaughtered every game like it’s just it’s it’s it’s like the one of the worst combinations they have it’s

Not an anti-am anti-d anything it’s just like the pairing of those two doesn’t work I mean please please please understand like the please understand the context around this stuff it’s like yeah I was going to say not you need not be defended but it was this is the best

Lineup the Nets have the best line that the Nets have I mean it was a it was it’s a positive it’s I mean it’s probably not it’s not anymore but they don’t really have any by the way funny after like the last couple of games their their net rating this season not

Not including last season it like shrunk to like plus seven offensive defensive after this game it’s probably shrunk a little bit so the margins are getting tighter around that starting rotation also one more thing about that I’ll say this we get to some more I got we’re g

To do uh tell you about one more of our friends here but um the I’ve seen a lot of people push back on like net rating is garbage which I find absolutely hilarious because like I saw someone and mulp people have said it here too it’s

Like oh net rating sucks I mean net rating is like literally just like saying the scoreboard sucks like net rating is just the points you score per per 100 possessions versus the points you allow versus hun possessions like it’s not even really analytics it’s just legit like a different way to look at

The scoreboard are you winning or losing well but it’s but it’s it’s meant to regress for Pace because like you do it per 100 possessions so because some teams play faster Paces so it’s better it’s better to look at that than points allowed because some teams are going to allow more points because

They play a faster Pace right so like you use net rating to get everyone down to 100 possessions so you can actually more clearly look at it it’s like a bet frankly it’s a better version of the scoreboard so I always find it hilarious when people say well that’s like

Analytics and it sucks it’s literally the scoreboard if you just did the scoreboard by 100 possessions they’re not so just like I don’t know get clu in up here second dougo continue dispensing wisdom to you the fans and also a trade Target a lineup suggestion and questions about jock V we’ll go into

Don’t forget to use our link so they know that we sent you all right as we tie a bow on the post podcast podcast couple more questions here diving in on it from you guys the fans um one of them here was how confident are you that the uh in the

Guys that the rookies will play past the deadline post deadline this is I said in the off season that Jaylen Wilson will play over 40 games for the Brooklyn Nets I’m pretty confident in that because I still believe whether they whether they make a move to bring someone in of a

High caliber or not they’re still going to have to fill in minutes and likely some of these veterans will have to go out to get that done or Nick claxon will have to go out I think there will be minutes for some of these guys the rookies though it’s really going to

Depend on if the Nets continue to push all in then I think DQ Whitehead and Noah Clowney are going to have a really hard time getting real minutes at the NBA level yeah I think they’re just they’re really really blocked right now the net the the benches like the roster

Is not great at with high end talent but it’s super deep and they the team wants to keep winning games and it’s hard to do that with super raw rookies that are really really young I mean the one thing that helps them with this these those

Two dudes is like they were like I think they’re the two youngest guys in the or something like that so like the timeline on that is pretty long like I think they’re they have a little more time with that than I think some other guys because they’re just so young but I

Don’t think about wanting to see it if if the season doesn’t feel like it’s going great then you want the hope of the young players right and it’s it’s a hard kind of needle to thread there right now you have to clear out probably three or four guys off the roster to

Justify bringing in those two specifically another one here from uh afro lore freaking flyer we’ve seen you before how are you sir uh de jonay Murray should be a priority I I looked at him the other day and it’s weird how if you go back to his San Antonio

Numbers where he was almost like a 10 assist guy then I like squint and I and I and I see how you plug him into the Nets and how there creates value there he’s on a long contract I mean the Age timeline it all kind of fits in there I

I don’t know where I stand on like him being the guy or how far that needle would move for me if you went and added him into this roster how much does that significantly change it we had this discussion even about adding a Donovan Mitchell I just don’t know what like the

Even if we want like pause and Deonte for one second I actually don’t even know what the Nets like what Atlanta would want off the Nets roster right like just a start I would assume I guess but they’re like they don’t even seem like they’re in that

Spot to like wanted to do that right so I think the contract for him is actually fine um like in terms of overall money which is probably why they want to ship him and try to like put a maybe a bigger piece around around Trey right maybe

Someone that fits a little better maybe someone that’s like a lot better defensively I think the The Hope here was that deante was going to be like a you know make up for a lot of the uh POA kind of like issues on this team that really hasn’t happened they play

Together like just okay not really great he’s obviously second banana because like if you look at the rotations he plays you know fewer minutes and he’s just like not prioritized in the same way as Tre Tre is better so like I I get it like um I I don’t know I guess it’d

Be like a moderate floor riser for this team I just don’t know if it like moves the needle so much I think if he came to the team you would see some of those San Antonio numbers tick back up simply because he wasn’t playing next to Trey

And I think that actually would make a a material difference but I just don’t know like what it really does for the Nets unless you’re just like hey we would just want to win four more games or something like that five more games and like and that’s and that’s good

Enough I’m not even sure he’s like like that good but let’s just say that’s the number then I can see it but you’re just going to have Deonte Murray on the team for a long time and I think we kind of just know where he is like the defense

Is a little overrated the shooting is not spectacular he does some things really well and I think that’s just it’s like unexciting but hard to find too many faults with it either and and his three-point shooting has improved he’s shooting 38% this year but it’s like it

Also it’s also one of those things of when you play with Trey young like we always talk about the gravity of the other players on the team sometimes those things get a little bit worse when you don’t have that same caliber of players around you but I I think it’s

Interesting because he’s a name you throw out and I think I would say if they made that move that the cost probably wouldn’t be so great that you that you would feel like you gave up too much to get him then you say okay it may it certainly would make the team more

Interesting and more exciting to watch over the second half of the season if that’s the way that they went there was one other note here about a lineup that I just want to touch on because I didn’t get to Crunch down on it the lineup of Thomas Bridges Johnson Watford and

Claxton when Lonnie comes back bigger line line up with the playmaking of Watford and allowing Gravity from Thomas to help the team I mean I’m Pro I’m Pro Watford getting bigger sample sizes I yeah I think I’ve actually I think I’ve actually I think I actually

Put this out there at one point about getting Watford and claxon on the floor together because Watford offers you again a Ben Simmons light version of that skill set can ball handle has some size can shoot from can also shoot from the outside so you don’t you still get

That element on the offensive end shows a lot of energy defensively I’d be fine with it like I think watford’s a guy that has earned a larger role in over the last whatever month or so yeah I think the funny thing about the Nets is like they have lots of different

Combinations like this now like because they just have lots of guys like this like they just have guy like they I this is a funny thing about the way the team is constructed now they all of their they have many fiveman combinations that are fine they have none that are great

Right and so I think we can do a million of these this one looks fine you know right I I can see it it’s got length it’s got like you know secondary ball handling it’s got some good you know backside Rim protection like there’s there’s a lot of good things about this

Lineup um they just have lots of versions of this because they have like lots of like this kind of guy and so yeah I’m not trying to like not be excited about it um but but I also and I’ll also say too to Terrell’s maybe just Terrell’s lineup suggestion it’s

Like this is also if you showed up and put this lineup out for the next game this is the next starting lineup I’d say okay fine like you know like it wouldn’t phase me to tell me you inserted player X in you took player X out and we’ve

Kind of talked about that too it’s like so try them a lot of these players are similar the differences are marginal there’s slight areas where one is better at something than the other so go ahead and mix and match these things until you maybe discover something like I think

That’s the biggest Advocate that I can be for is like just find out is there something more there here’s a good one to throw up I think after the podcast you guys should spend more time on YouTube on the questions too many questions go unanswered I will say I

Mean obviously first of all we do our what we’re doing right now I know we’re right here allow me to although frankly if I’m being honest Dan I don’t want to I don’t to blow up your spot here but you didn’t even ask me a question you

Just made a statement you see what I’m doing here you got to put the little question at the end there could you answer more no we do you know the traditional postgame podcast that’s clean I mean I think everyone knows that we don’t take questions there um but

Doug and I have also we’ve also talked about like other versions of doing things live where we just kind of basically sit here and chop the crap out of it with you guys until you ask nine million questions and our and your ears bleed from hearing our resp

But um you know we’ll do our best we’re trying our best Dan any other ones how long yeah we’ll do this one how long will JV last I actually I’m at the point now where and I know we did one from AFA before but I thought this was a good one

I’m at the point now where I’m actually think it could come sooner than later I think like he could he could get fired here like I think that this Swoon is been so bad and the the team has been so lifeless and the energy level has been

So low I was actually looking at the schedule with where I thought and this how you know I I actually I don’t really default to this but I was looking at the schedule thinking about where would be the best spot to do it like if I was if

I was tasked with doing it um if I was tasked with actually like making this move this tonight would be one of the places because you have like kind of a soft Landing for the new coach against Portland at home on Sunday right um and

So that’s uh oh no sorry no no sorry after after OKC they have OKC at home and then you have Portland the next game and then they go to Paris but then the Paris thing threw me off because I was like well they’re just gonna like fire

Him before they go do this like par they’re gonna leave overseas and they’re not gonna do that when they and they’re not gonna fire him there and so I mean it might not fire him at all like I like this is also an organization that seems

To want to have a steady hand around this stuff so I actually the other part where actually don’t think he’s gonna get fired but this is the first time I’ve actively thought about it well and so the and also one of the things I don’t think we talked about too is if

You think about this from like what do you want do you want the Nets to go get a player you know a name player to bring in to improve this team to turn these things around well if you want that then you’re probably advocating they don’t

Fire Jack vaugh because I think if you fire your head coach then the likelihood that your team makes different decisions at the deadline like trading off veterans and going with your development of the young guys becomes more likely you know it’s not often I mean you know

Atlanta actually did do this when they brought in um who’s now currently Quinn Snyder when they brought him in it was like they brought him in kind of mid-season after let their guy go specifically like give him a half a year to figure out a lot of stuff and really

Sink his teeth into this roster so maybe you could do that but I also think that if they let go of Jack vaugh in at least in my opinion in the short term the remainder of this year they would probably look internally and Elevate one of the young developmental coaches that

They have inside their organization so you’re not going to get that that that sexy name from outside that comes in and solves these problems or something so depending on where your desires lie on what you think you want this team to do that’s should probably inform whether or

Not you actually want Jo vaugh to be fire regardless of you know if it would almost for sure be Kevin olly like that would be my guess I like he would be almost for sure be the the guy right like and and I don’t know maybe that’s the

Right move I’m not sure but I but just this is the first you agree that if you fired vaugh that like the likelihood of trading for a bigname player vastly decreases I don’t think they’re correlated to me oh like I I I think that I don’t think of those things as

Together like I for I might be wrong for sure but I I just don’t think that one necessarily begets the other they’re still in the same problem it’s like that vaugh it’s funny because everyone wants to look at vaugh as being the major problem and I get it vaugh is one

Problem of many that they have they have many problems here like this not the only problem like is he a great coach it doesn’t seem like it doesn’t seem like he’s a floor raising coach in the x’s and O stuff right like I think we’re getting a large enough sample size to

Kind of know that so that is that’s one problem if you fired him you would still have the rest of the problems like you would have a roster that lacks a ton of top end Talent you would have you know firing Bond doesn’t get you your draft

Picks back right like firing Bond still has 40 million of Ben Simmons who never plays sitting on the roster for another year like those problems all still exist a new coach would have to deal with all the same problems maybe they’d be slightly better or me or decent amount

Better at handling those problems but the problems still exists so anyone that wants to say Jacques vaugh is like the only problem here you’re lying to yourself like there’s just so many problems here which brings this one up from John Claude every single player regressed under Jack Von’s leadership

Now there’s some easy push back on this stuff like when you take two guys that were role players in male Bridges and Cameron Johnson and Elevate them into primary roles on your team you’re you’re you could see quote what looks like regression because now they’re the focal point of the opposition Deon Sharps

Developed very well well his game has taken another step I don’t think Nicholas Claxton has regressed under jock vaugh to any extent I don’t know how you felt about trendon Watford coming in but he’s played well and looked good Dennis Smith Jr Lonnie Walker now the maybe you think these

Guys were good unto themselves before they came in the door you know Dorian finy Smith is having a career year in shooting had a bad night tonight some guys are having bad nights Royce O’Neal you know I I point to the guys that you feel like have regressed now cam Thomas

Becomes the poster child for this one and I get that and the decision Mak from Jo Fon certainly you can question that in his development stunting those things but I I don’t I really don’t have a strong case for him being why play that players have regressed under him I just

Think that what Doug said he’s not a floor Riser coach he is not you know he is not he learned underneath papovich he didn’t take enough lessons from them it’s not going to be the kind of guy that takes a roster and elevates them into the best maybe possible versions of

Themselves honestly like the sharp thing like sharp has benefited from sharp has benefited from the changes they made this year like going more drop coverage and not switching everything has been one of the major reasons Dron can stay on the court for long periods of time because they’re playing that defensive

Scheme like it was where he was totally exposed last year they didn’t run the scheme enough and it was problematic so yeah I’m S I know I’m getting tired I’m getting tired there’s always an end of these lives where I some for some weird

Reason pick up a ton of steam as Doug is clearly signaling we could go ahead and tie a bow on this one anytime we want which I just let I let out a big yawn look man we’re getting we’re getting two and a half hours of and then an hour and

10 minutes of podcast man come on there’s a cut off point I’m not I’m no spring chicken right I gotta cut myself off the bottom line is we always appreciate everybody that comes in we say it every single time we try to answer as many of your questions

Weird place despite my efforts to make clear and perfect sense of it now that’s Hunter S Thompson and he’s one of the Great American poets rest his soul we’ll see you next time talking all things broken nice basketball basketball basketball basketball basketball killer basketball basketball yeah

The guys discuss the disappointing shooting night for the Nets, specifically key offensive contributors Cam Thomas and Mikal Bridges. After a loss to the Pelicans that turned the chatter up on Jacque Vaughns job security, did the Nets show enough to calm the storm?

  1. Nets own 2024, 2025 (swap) and 2026 first round picks are with Houston. Are we tanking for Houston?

  2. It genuinely upsets me that the front office and Joe Tsai didn’t sign Ime Udoka. They chose avoid “controversy” that literally didn’t exist. Now that same guy they avoided is proving just how damn good he can be for any team, in any situation.

  3. The Harden trade and subsequent trade to philly set back this franchise years, thanks Marks, aside from that JV sucks as a coach and you extended him.

  4. Hats off to Adam and Doug for continuing to provide content on such an atrocious team. Marks always seems to make one step forward and two steps back. Did he actually think sticking with nice guy JV over Udoka was the way to get the most out of this collection of players? He was patient and got good returns for KD and Kyrie but had already lost on the Harden trade… in both directions. I don't understand how he's still got a job.

  5. Given the way Mikal Bridges is playing this season, building around him is not very exciting to me. Given the level of talent on this team and our future assets, wouldn’t it be better to think long term in building this team? I just don’t see a lot of short term upside that’s meaningful.

  6. Sean marks first move in Brooklyn was when the nets traded brook lopez for a young up and coming dlo. At the time they had basically no draft picks and had won 20 games. This idea that we cannot trade bridges and rebuild is nonsense. You can and should make the trade for a young up and coming player and picks. This idea that the nets shouldn’t try to rebuild bc the suns own their own picks is ridiculous. It’s been shown already that you can rebuild with other teams draft picks. In addition the rockets picks are gone stop talking about them and ignore them they’re gone. Like it’s ridiculous that the organization is planning on sitting in the mud for the next 4 yrs bc of that

  7. Haha at some point, Doug is going to switch and actually do some research on the league and see that the type of archetype of big that the Houston Rockets have is not a unicorn anymore and actually is far more prevalent around the league and the question should be why haven’t the nets developed that type of big for themselves? It’s just not true when Doug says that those types of bigs are rare in the league this isn’t 10 years ago they’re not rare in the league anymore. It’s just that the nets haven’t caught up with what the rest of the league has been developing. Do I need to go down the list again of multifaceted Bigs that can play in the post can hit jump shots, etc. that are throughout the league. It’s not a rarity like Doug keeps saying and the nets have continuously failed to address that glaring hole and failed to develop that in the draft. All because stylistically they still wanna run a Dantoni style small ball offense. I believe that they had that in Nic Claxton when he came out of Georgia but instead of cultivating those multifaceted skills, they turned him into a rim running big with no offensive skills. Rarity? Look at the league almost every team has a guy like that that they’re either developing or who starting for them but not the Nets.

  8. Should trade all above 24 for picks & young talent
Mikal to rockets for our picks back
We ll never win anything with this team even if we get Dmitch for ben

  9. Anyone wonder whether Udoka was the last straw for KD? If the nets had signed Udoka, do the nets still have Kyrie and KD on this roster I wonder. It seems possible that when the nets decided to pander to public opinion, and not sign Udoka that it sent the signal to KD and Kyrie, that public sentiment was going to now become more important than trying to win. You kind of see it with Cam Johnson, and Bridges how desperately the nets want these guys to be the face of the franchise even if they don’t have the requisite talent to deserve that consideration because they have the personalities that the franchise wants after being severely burned by KD, Harden, and Kyrie. So, in a way the franchise is still dealing with the trauma of the KD and Kyrie era by continuing to make bad decisions as a result of it. However, it’s beginning to look more and more like KD was absolutely right about marks that this was more a mismanagement problem than a stars Have bad attitudes problem.

  10. Leadership should start at the top. If things go wrong there, poor repercussions usually follow. Joe Tsai didn't become a billionaire by making many poor business decisions. After paying out $323 million in luxury taxes, since buying the Nets franchise in 2017, and having nothing significant to show for it, one would wonder when will he take a more business approach to running the franchise. It's always been routine for business owners to fire their executives when they don't fulfill their job responsibility. Joe is no stranger to firing executives. Apparently, his friendship with Sean Marks has clouded his vision thus breaking a common iron clad business rule. $323 million in luxury taxes is just the beginning of the price he'll pay for mixing business decisions with friendship. Sean Marks made the same mistake by hiring two of his friends (Atkinson, Nash) to be the head coach and they had no NBA coaching experience. History showed how that turned out. Presently, he hired JV for head coach, for the media and the Nets fan base to trash for not cleaning up the mess quick enough. The repercussions of firing JV could be disastrous. No high quality coach would want to come to Brooklyn with the pressure of turning this mess around knowing they too could get fired if they don't produce instant results. The process back to being a contender will and should be slow and painful.

  11. Claxton crushed by an opppsing big yet again. Its time to start Sharpe!

I can't stand for Cam Thomas not starting. JV has absolutely ruined him. Dimwiddie to the bench. Lets go.

Please fire JV asap, Udoka embarrassd us 🤦‍♂️

  12. Build around Bridges??? He is not good enoufgh. Not evem close. We have to think about the future. The present is sunk cost

  13. In this nba you need a 25 point scorer, bridges is not that, Thomas is that. He cannot get there unless he's playing 30 min. The argument that he can't play D is bs, every good team has a pure scorer & they don't care about his defense. This coach has mishandled Thomas fr the get go. Now it's affecting his confidence , his cadence & decision as to when he releases his shot ( spot on floor) is way off – he's giving up the exact best moment to shoot because of the pressure to show he can blend. To win in nba u must put up 115 min on avg. u can defend enough to keep the opposition at 100-114. Bridges needs to be 2nd option & Thomas the focus. If Thomas is on the ct for 30 + minutes – he will average 25 or more. He must be encouraged to shoot & put up more 3s again. A pure scorer is not a dime a dozen.

  14. I love Claxton's little flop on Sengun trying to get in his head. Check the numbers after that little bitch move. Boy did daddy Sengun teach that clown a lesson.

  15. Can you guys please trade mikal to us for evan fourniers expiring contract, grimes, and 2 firsts. Sincerely knicks fan

  16. If this team had a true number 1 we would be fine. Period. I just dont know how we get that player. Starting Cam Thomas does not win us any more games. He is a Vinny Johnson (look him up) if there ever was one. This guy is lost on defense. He is unprofessional and a crybaby. When he caught wind he might not be starting anymore he refused to come out for starting line up calls even though he still was a starter. That is infantile. To much #11 influence. When this team shoots well they can win and be in games with better teams. When they don't it is almost impossible. I want this team to win but don't see a path to get there.

  17. Honestly that Harden trade still baffles me. I honestly almost feel like you guys had a better chance at winning with Spencer and Jarret Allen. Glad Caris got his life saved at least.

  18. Mikal Bridges isn't play good enough to even get our pick back he's been playing bad he doesn't even look like a third option at this point we stuck we got rid of three superstars for role players we just gonna watch the rockets get better off of our bad play were gonna be bad for awhile sorry guys can i be the gm please i think I can do better the front office is the reason we lost three superstars burn it down get what draft picks we can and make cap space for superstar free agents 😢😢🔥🔥🔥
