Immanuel Quickley And Scottie Barnes NEARLY Pull Off Comeback | Toronto Raptors vs Sacramento Kings

Immanuel Quickley And Scottie Barnes NEARLY Pull Off Comeback | Toronto Raptors vs Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings are emerging as a serious Suitor in cakam they’re among the offers and options that Toronto has and this is a gaining interest for Sacramento to pair and combine a big three of Pascal cakam dear Fox and damont sabonis well the night opened with trade rumors flying around about

Pascal cakam against the very opponent the Raptors were set to face off against the Sacramento Kings while it has been mentioned over the last couple of months that the kings were interested in cakam sham Tania reported before the game that the kings are no longer actively pursuing cakam as of right now but

Things could change on the court however there was a game to be played and while the Raptors got down big in this one they clawed back to make things interesting falling just short in Sacramento you hear the crowd and all that and you go down that that much um

You know you want to win and obviously I think we uh felt like we had a chance I think um not winning changes everything obviously but uh I think we’re definitely could learn from it and like I said like I said it’s always the same

Thing we just got to find ways to you know keep four cers together instead of three the Raptors just had no answers for the Kings offense in the first half Sacramento scored 77 points through two quarters thanks to two things offensive rebounding being the first one the Kings

Scored 26 Second Chance points and three-point shooting was phenomenal they shot 55% from three making 21 three-point shots on the night the Raptor’s defense at least in the first half struggled to deal with the size and strength of sabonis down low and struggle to contain the king’s guards at

The point of attack which led to a lot of easy look for the Kings and a 20-point deficit for the Raptors first half uh we allowed them uh transition we allowed them Second Chance points uh we did not do a good job rebounding there

Uh I believe they had had uh uh seven or eight offensive rebounds in in the first half uh for some 14 uh Second Chance points and um that was the the biggest problem there adjustment in in the second half was our physicality and grit not to give up you know when you’re down

20 you have decision to make if you’re going to quit or you’re going to continue fighting now in the second half Toronto adjusted primarily they put Dennis Schroeder on dearon Fox and task Scotty Barnes with the assignment of guarding sabonis and with the help of some good bench contributions from Chris

Bue who finished with 14 points and nine rebounds and jonte Porter in his second game as a raptor pitching him with 10 points and two made threes Toronto slowly but surely clawed back into the game I thought that uh Jon did really good job offensively I thought that his

Game was progressing he was feeling more and more comfortable out there um I thought that that he did pretty good job with verticality and ch changing a couple of shots there at Ed the um Chris was everywhere on the floor tonight he was active he was aggressive he was

Getting deflections and steals uh he he played really good game I’m really proud of of his performance tonight uh Denis of the bench as well uh he was plus 12 scored 18 points um I thought that all threes that he took uh were good shots they did not fall tonight but uh they’re

Going to fall next time now in the fourth quarter the Raptors thanks to Emanuel quickley who hit some timely threes finishing with 20 points five rebounds and eight assists on the night and Scotty Barnes doing the same knocking down four threes on his own for 20 points they both helped cut the

King’s lead to just three but in the end the Raptors offense still look clunky down the stretch with three close games in the fourth quarter in a row it seems as though these new look raptors have to naturally still develop some chemistry and feel for one another couple of

Situations that happened tonight were uh coverage breakdowns and uh you know with new guys chemistry on the court communication there is there’s going to be a really good film that we can watch and get better at because we’re going in into another game with another team that that has really potent three-point Shooters

And we’ll have to do better job of of controlling those guys in those situations and so despite a disastrous first half defensively and a mighty performance from your bench and from Scotty and IQ the Raptors lost by five points to the Kings all in all a pretty

Good game one that will be necessary as this team goes through the Growing Pains of finding its own identity especially on the defensive end and that is what we got to talk about in the film ladies and gentlemen I wouldn’t lie to you I’m not like that I appreciate everybody who’s

Sat down and watch these Recaps I really do now when I have mentioned this over maybe five times in these Recaps the fact that Scotty Barnes on some nights is not being maximized defensively the way he ought to more of a helps side Defender great as this off ball

Disruptor not so good guarding guards at the point of attack especially quicker guards the one game I can note is the Cleveland Cavaliers game where he was tasked with guarding Darius Garland got absolutely cooked and then the Raptors adjusted in the second half they found some ways Dennis Schroeder got on Darius

Garland and tonight against the Aaron Fox it was much of the same on the opening play we can see Scotty being the main defender on Fox and the issue with that is that if he gets caught under a screen that is a very easy downhill drive for one of the fastest players

Maybe the fastest player in the league IND dearn Fox and you’re putting Scotty behind the eightball here because he’s forced to chase over all of these screens and it leads to an advantage for the Kings and this is sort of linked to the offensive rebounding issues that the

Raptors were having because when Fox blows by Scotty like this purle is forced to sell out and try to protect the rim that leads to a wideopen sabonis who gets the offensive rebound and tips it to Keegan Murray this time dearon Fox just goes all the way for a layup it’s

Just really easy for him to get downhill against Scotty who is the you know doesn’t have as much hip mobility because of his size because of his frame really smaller faster guards aren’t the people he should be guarding here he gets two screens set on him they are

Forcing the switch at any cost Fox gets downhill and again look purle has to sell out and try to protect the basket he does and sabonis just puts Scotty under the rim gets the offensive rebound layup and as you can see in transition that causes a lot of headaches you see

The dribble penetration Scotty just kind of slow behind the eightball there to get to dearen Fox even the close out very easy for Fox to attack it even to start the second half they didn’t adjust and the tough thing about this is that the kings are going to set so many off

Ball screens so Scotty has to fight through all of these as well and you see Fox gets downhill settles for a floater right here Scotty doesn’t help his cause because he presses up so high and with a guard like Fox he’s just going to blow

Right by you this time he gets all the way downhill and then he gets to a floater but now ladies and gentlemen the game plan changes 2 minutes into the third quarter the Raptor Sub in Dennis Schroeder Schroeder takes the assignment on dearon Fox he is chasing Under and

Over screen Scotty is the main defender on Keegan Murray a little bit slower of a player so he can kind of keep up going around these screens and so the Raptors nice ball pressure by Dennis schroer there staying with Fox off ball watch him continue to kind of chase him around

These screens really really pesky on ball as as well and it forces the Kings to have to take a inbound play with three left and so that is what Dennis schroer does for you a much feistier point of attack Defender a much more logical Defender for dearon Fox the

Raptors were also sending tons of nail help here you see uh you know Pascal and Scotty both providing tons of help here sabonis great Rotation by a Manu quickly there to try and stop sabonis and look this is the benefit of having barns off ball look at that activity he gets all

The way out to Chris Duarte to block the three-point shot even quickly would have been a better option for guarding dear and fox but in general I just thought him and Schroeder were did a really good job against Fox negating these drives so you see you know quickly goes under

Schroeder is there for the nail help they send it to dwarte again look at where quickly is for the nail help on the Duarte drive as well and this again the benefits of Scotty Barnes the outstretched arms yes dwarte makes that but his ability to try and contest these

Shots is what makes Scotty so special as an off ball disruptor same thing here tons of aggressive nail help to negate the Fox Drive and while Harrison Barnes gets the drive instead it leads to a rotation the Raptors do a good job and yaka purle is there for the rejection

Same thing with Malik monk who is a fast guard Schroeder is the best assignment for him you see that them you see him and Scotty Barnes guard this pick and roll well and Scotty forces sabonis into the travel again same thing here you see Scotty fighting with sabonis in the post

Great job kind of pushing him out of the restricted area and so you see great help by Chris bue to step up and force the double now they can space out and he’s going to let Davon Mitchell a non-shooter shoot the three there great defensive communication by the Raptors

Also just shows you that sabonis is a better matchup for Scotty versus dearon Fox even Pascal even Pascal cakam is a quicker more agile player defensively than Scotty Barnes and again this isn’t a knock at Scotty it’s just about maximizing how he looks on the defensive

End he excels as a weak side helper he excels as a RoR off of the ball he does not Excel guarding these faster guards especially dearon Fox Pascal contains the Fox Drive does a great job sticking with him here and is able to contain that drive here you see Schroeder

Containing Malik monk as well and you see the switch yakob does a great job on the switch here trying to contest Malik Monk’s shot and the Raptors get a stop once again this time it’s quickly on Fox and quickly is able to contain him stay

On there for the drive and yes look yes it is a offensive foul on dearen Fox he hooks quickly that is not the point of this play the point of this play is that now that you have Scotty as this ramor kind of hanging out off ball he’s able

To contest the shot and if it wasn’t an offensive foul he would have got the block so that’s all I’m going to say on the Scotty Barnes matter final defensive possession of the game it’s Pascal on Fox and both bue and Pascal are going to

Send a double here to Fox to get the ball out of his hands dying clock he does a great job of splitting this double team excellent recovery using his length by Chris bue shout out to him and shout out to the Raptors for clawing back here by adjusting defensively I

Just want to see them do that more often to be honest with you and yes people in the comments probably will say that hey the Raptors don’t have ogn and Obi anymore ogn and Obi would have been the guy guarding dearon Fox ogn and Obi would have been the guy guarding Donovan

Mitchell a couple games ago OG anobi would have been the guy guarding Desmond Bane or John Morant a couple you know last game yes absolutely yeah that’s true no doubt but ogan and Obi is not on the team anymore ladies and gentlemen we have to look at how this current team

Can survive defensively and while Scotti is one of your better Defenders he is not one of your better perimeter Defenders he is not one of your better point of attack Defenders and as much as you want to call him a point guard on offense which you can very very fair

Assessment to have he’s not a point guard on defense just that’s just the matter of fact he’s much more of a power forward Center prototype maybe even small forward on that help side guarding these guys guarding the bigger players does an excellent job against the embiid of the

World does an excellent job against the tatums and Durant of the world does a great job on guys like sabonis does a great job on guys like bam does not do a great job on guys like Darius garland does not do a great job on Donovan

Mitchell does not do a great job on dearon Fox it’s just the way the cookie crumbles with with a guy like Scotty Barnes on defense and so the Raptors adjusted they put Dennis Schroeder at the point of attack they put Emanuel quickly they put Pascal cakam there at

The point of attack and the hope is that IQ can eventually become that guy for them on ball right that’s the goal that’s the Hope right now his on ball defense isn’t as good as his off ball defense was and that’s why I think the pairing of Schroeder and IQ especially

Late in the the fourth quarter really helped Galvanize the Raptors at the point of attack I’m interested to see how that duo does defensively in a larger game span but ultimately man good game for the Raptors and it was a good game to watch to be honest with you the

Kings just shot the lights out 55% from three they were hitting everything that didn’t the defensive game plan to start this game didn’t necessarily help that but for the most part that’s a developmental loss Growing Pains the Raptors clutch offense I could have done another film room on that but the

Raptor’s clutch offense just stagnated a little bit bit guys were sort of confused where to go they ran the IQ Scotty 2oman game again and that had to work through its Kinks and so they’re kind of feeling each other out they’re trying to figure out an identity right

Figure out who they can be uh and that’s not something that they can figure out through one day or one game or one week it has been one week they’re two in one and they are facing the Golden State Warriors on Sunday which I imagine we will hear more Pascal cakam trade rumors

On Sunday because obviously the Warriors will be another destination another potential landing spot for cakam but ladies and gentlemen thank you very much for tapping into tonight’s recap please listen to The Objective basketball podcast with Lauren and I we talk about the NBA large not just the Raptors we

Talk about this team that they face tonight the Sacramento Kings we talk about all the other teams ladies and gentlemen so tap in thank you very much for listening to this we’ll see you guys later take care

The Toronto Raptors clawed back from down more than 20 points against the Sacramento Kings, thanks to some great contributions from Chris Boucher, Dennis Schroder, and of course, Immanuel Quickley and Scottie Barnes but the Raptors dug themselves too big of a hole against De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis to overcome.

  1. Watched first half of the game but from what I saw.. they rushed offense and were def not in sync.. and the kings were hitting EVERYTHING.

  2. You had the opportunity here to use the phrase made famous by LL cool J: "Don't Call it a Comeback"!

  3. @sdpn the way siakam sabotaging his trade value, siakam may find himself in detroit for ivey beef stew filler and two 2nds. a contenders 1st round pick that they would get for siakam is essentially gonna be a late 1st anyways.

  4. For now, Pascal should show up and put more effort on defense. And still we need a ball stopper with or without Siakam trade.

  5. All year teams have been shooting a lot of 3 pointers on us…. Shame on the Raptors coaching staff not extending our defence and stop the over helping. Man up… Give up the paint points and stop the threes. This is stupid

  6. They are keeping trying on shooting near the basket, where they have their defenders are, why dont they trying to shoot three first, on the outside

  7. Thanks for an excellent summary of the game. Nothing negative just good positive thoughts and recommendations. Of course with all the personnel changes it will take a little time for chemistry issues to be sorted out but the Raptors is a good team and will rise to the occasion. We need more commentary like yours. Lets go Raptors!!!!

  8. I don't why Darko keeps putting SB at POA d? Did he not watch film from last season? It should have to be IQ or DS doing this.

  9. That was what NN did last season. SB was on Sabonis. Like really, Darko. Even if SB wants to be the POA defender especially on fast PG you need to tell him "NO".

  10. I feel like Rj got scapegoated on Defense. As you displayed, Scottie was getting killed by Fox on defense and allowed Sabonis to get offensive rebounds because of help coming over. RJ wasn’t great on D but was fine enough. As you mentioned, Scottie needs to play paint defense and be a roamer that provides weakside help. Iq/ Dennis should be poa and preferably get another poa defender in a pascal trade. Rj should be guarding the wing (sf/pf), and Scottie should be guarding the bigs. No reason why RJ shouldn’t have been in the game down the stretch.
