The positive note you know the third quarter that’s been a bane a thorn on the spur side for almost all season but of late they haven’t been getting smoked they haven’t been getting curb stomped in the third usually that’s been their killes heels Victor went bayama has told

Us many times that he knows that the team knows that yeah you know that quarter is pretty much a pest but we saw versus Milwaukee we saw last night versus the Cavs that were yesterday it was the afternoon game that the Spurs did not go down in the third so why

Bring up takeaway number one that being progress we’re at the point now of the season this team just needs to show progress and they showed it Spurs won the third 28 to 26 over Cleveland that kept the team within a Striking Distance uh for the rest of the game so if

There’s there’s a sign that this team is getting better so far the third period has not been their Doom and Gloom so kudos to Spurs take away number one takeway number two look Victor W bayama another great game uh 24 points he had 10 rebounds three assists had five

Blocks on the night in 24 minutes a minutes restriction and um I love you Vic got you the franchise but takeway number two I like to see him just maybe a tad less unselfish look I know maybe that was the right P play to give the ball to Jeremy Sohan who was streaking

Uh to tie the game maybe force an overtime but Victor was kind of near the rim uh he definitely has a height Advantage I would have preferred him to go for it worst case scenario gets foul goes to the free throw line and and then

You know last night he went 10 for 11 for the free throw line so we were pretty good seeing him go to the line but I I think I would have preferred him to go for the shot I understand he wants to be a team player I get the team

Basketball is basketball you know it’s all about the team but in that situation he was low in the post he could have turned around laid up dunk it maybe get body free throw line whatever so it may have been the right play but we saw this versus Milwaukee again he passed it up

He gave it to Trey Jones Trey Jones missed the three that would have uh been great for the Spurs in that game again you kind of don’t want to fault him for it because he is getting his teammates involved but if you’re the franchise guy

Maybe you want to be the guy taking that clutch shot for the Spurs we’ll see if that changes but again I mean Victor had a great night you know the Spurs probably will not be in it and versus Cleveland it wasn’t for him but nevertheless I like to see maybe Victor

Just take over that those possessions those clutch possessions see how he does in those situations final takeaway a second chance points this team cannot give up Second Chance points and we saw that a lot versus Cleveland uh yesterday the Spurs uh got outscored scored a second chance points

18-7 and talk about just you know opportunities in the glass they got out offensive rebound that make sense Spurs had eight offensive rebounds while the Cavs had 12 so you’re you’re seeing those Second Chance opportunities be given away this team you know can’t afford that they this is a team that

Needs to play near perfect basketball so did not like that but you know it is what it is you know they’re they’re we seeing progress mentioned that third quarter hasn’t been that much of a killer late they’re hanging in there games there could be like a takeaway 3B

That would be it they hung in there again they made things interesting they went on a run 11 to nothing run to close out uh the game to you know put Cleveland on their heels and Cleveland was coasting they could have just ran away with it game over but they made

Towns you know some pretty good players at the front and Court spot uh a little over 200,000 221,000 Hector I believe a little over that um nevertheless some fans are griping though they’re saying that’s still too low of amount what do you think you think it’s just too soon to you know

Knee-jerk and be like oh my God you know fans are not getting the vote out I suspect that flood of French fans wave to come in soon well you know what’s interesting about front court or uh talking about Western Conference front Court players right and where he ranks what’s

Interesting about Allstar voting results is your initial reaction like the kneer reaction is my goodness he got snubbed oh my goodness he should be higher oh my goodness this or that but then the reality of it being allar voting and you’re only allowed 12 guys on a team or

Only a certain number of front Court players within that 12 is then you look at the guys who are in front of him and I mean LeBron Kevin Durant joic no brainers right like okay Anthony Davis no-brainer right you you would you would say Nob brainer then you get to

Then you get to so go ahead Jeffy you think that maybe is not a no-brainer no no no no I think I think that is a no-brainer because you know it’s fan voting let’s be honest Hector fan popularity it’s a popular vote right now yeah but but that’s kind of my point

Jeff is even even on Merit like on Meritt I think nobody’s gonna say that right now right now wmi is not better than LeBron KD or joic he’s not right he’s not better than Anthony Davis right right now he’s not better than kawhai or Paul George so that’s your six right

There is he better than shenon probably like like like when when you when you think about those two there’s no doubt you’d rather have W longterm now now there’s no that’s no disrespect uh to S good is is definitely not it’s just that wm’s wmy but right now right now is wmy

A better player of yeah of course I listen to the argument that he is but I can live with the fact that he’s behind him too so your initial thought is wait a minute he’s only eighth in the uh in the AAR voting for front Court players

And then look at the list and you go okay you know I mean I’m glad he’s in front of Chad yeah and um Carl Anthony towns is a tough one because to me cat is is one of those cat to me is is like what Allstar arguments are all about

Right all Allstar selection arguments are all about and not to go off on too much of a tangent but I think it it goes deeper than it goes beyond cap or or cats I should say because the thing was always like okay stat stuffers or guys who help you get wins yeah and

Minnesota’s record’s been much better the last couple of years but to bringing it full a circle is when you look at the the seven in front of Vic it’s tough to argue that none of those guys you know are worthy of being ahead of wanama yeah yeah I a couple

Things when I saw the list uh I I I want to see that Gap and you look at the gap between eight and seven between wmy and singon it’s oh yeah it’s a it’s kind of Hefty it’s it’s a big jump yeah so you know I’m I’m thinking like okay a you

Know are Spurs fans voting you know get the vote out for get wimy out there and two like is is is Al prce andon really that much ahead of wimy in fans views in in their eyesight uh and that leads me to point two kind of dovetails that is

Spurs are not winning they’re not winning and they had a thrilling game versus Milwaukee last week we we’ll talk about that later but the W’s are not stacking up sangon is on a winning team my question to you Hector is you think ultimately the Spurs record might pop

When Wy and may miss out as far as starting H for the Western Conference front courts probably certainly in terms of starting well in terms of starting again you go Merit based right like yeah like LeBron KD and joic that’s like a clearcut three like it’s the three of them on this list

And then and then you go to the next tier so in terms of starting assuming you’re starting three front Court players right um yeah um he’s not going to start Beyond popularity it’s just based on Merit right now um you know he just turned 20 he turned 20 literally

Yesterday so you know he’s he’s gonna get there he just right now we’re talking about this season of being being an Allstar um but in terms of like the the rec the Spurs record it it it it hurts him yeah uh and I think we’ve seen

It play out in real time in the last two uh NBA western two this season the NBA Western Conference rookie of the month Awards yeah you brought that up to him didn’t you last week about yeah yeah after after the uh the buck yeah I asked him um if that was any

Kind of sorts of motivation for him and I’ll be honest Jeff when I asked him um I was thinking he’s gonna say no it doesn’t really matter that’s for someone else to decide not not that that’s the way he should have answered I’m not saying that at all but I was expecting

That kind of an answer and to hear him say yeah and to hear him say you know I’m gonna get what essentially he said I’m gonna get what I deserve and you know from here on out everyone’s everyone’s pretty pretty much put on notice um that was that was awesome it

Was awesome to hear him say that um but I think yes the the the voting the record is going to hurt the voting because the way I look at it is to me I do think that that wins and losses and success should matter in the MVP race

Because the award is most valuable player if you want to make it if you want to make it most outstanding player you know to me words matter if you want to make it most outstanding player then change the name of the trophy but it’s most valuable player and and ultimately

Your biggest value in the game is is how is do you win and do you help your team win yeah so yeah records do matter so which leads me to this next thing is will he ultimately just get in in whether voted in or picked to be a

Reserve I think that’s probably going to be his route if he does get in it’s going to be via Reserve look we know he’s gonna be there for the rising stars challenge we get that he’s probably gonna be making appearances you know at events here and there but as far as the

Main event that Sunday night I think he gets in as a reserve well the and you I agree and the irony is that who would have thought that going into the season like if anything with all the hype coming in if anything you would have thought it would

Have been the opposite like maybe he’s not having quite the season that maybe we thought maybe the the numbers would be a little bit more modest but because he’s got so much hype surrounding him and he’s so new and he’s kind of the shiny object still and he’s he’s who he

Is seven4 and can do the things that he does yeah I could I could have seen a situation where the fans got him and even though maybe his numbers weren’t deserving it’s going to end up being the opposite like his numbers are going to be what what should get him in right as

Opposed to fans just basically picking him because he’s you know so intriguing yeah exactly look he helped his case again versus the Bucks you know with that self alop dunk you know it is by popularity and fan voting and liking the shiny highlights you know he helped

Himself with that you know he with to Toe with Giannis that was good he’s been doing a lot of good things that could help his cause But ultimately I I just think the record will pop him I think he does get in as a reserve it’s just a

Shame because look it should be a shame look if he makes it it’s great I mean Testament to him you know as 20-y old getting in his rookie season but I would have loved for him to if he does does not go in Via voting like voted in uh

For a starter you know I would love for him to join Tim Duncan I think Tim Duncan was the last spur first round pick overall to make it as a rookie starter so uh I love him to join that by the way I you know after the game um

Against the Bucks uh wimy told me that you actually taught him the self Alle is that true yeah I took it I figured yeah I figured showed him how to put it right off the right angle off the back SL back in before before coming

Down but hey Jeff one more thought on on he gets picked it Al it’s also going to detend like I forget when it comes to how how these teams are put together I forget if it’s totally up to the coach in terms of does he want eight front

Court players and four you know because nowadays like LeBron’s a front Court player but Le LeBron’s a guard but he plays a perimeter I know he plays the perimeter same with KD so so how does a coach go you know what I want nine front Court players and I just want three

Guards because like for example for example you look at the guards in the west Luca no brainer right Curry Nob brainer they’re your they’re your starters Luca and Curry okay after that you know maybe Shay Shay sh Shay is absolutely in yeah but is he the cutof

Point like because fourth is Harden yeah Irving’s fifth yeah now Anthony Edwards is more deserving right than hardner and or Irving right now like what do you think about Booker that’s interesting because I mean again you you go with Team success right and they’ve underwhelmed this year yeah

And so do you if you’re gonna penalize a a a a rook who’s been who’s been 19 years old for the better part for the for most of the first half of the season if you’re gonna penalize a 19-year-old for being for not winning because he’s

He’s on a team that’s also young and quite frankly not as talented as they’d like to be then you’ve got to penalize Booker for teaming with I know Bradley’s been hurt Bradley be has been hurt but you got to penalize Booker for at least not getting more wins with KD and you

Know and and that Phoenix team out there so so just just kind of wrapping that up Jeff like if they take just just the four guards like let’s say go they go Luca Curry Shay and Edwards I’m cool with that like it leaves off it leaves

Off Fox it leaves off Harden which good it leaves off Irving which good you know so really if you go Fox Shay Curry Luca there’s your four guards I don’t know anybody else on this list who’s more deserving than wimy so even if wimy stays where he is and you still slot him

Behind sh that’s your eight front Court players that’s your four guards yep he’s on your team like and he would be deserving of making that team absolutely we’ll see how the fan voting uh continues on uh leading up to the big game out in Indianapolis we’ll talk

But they fought for 48 minutes we saw a lot of good things for 48 minutes we saw wimy shining we saw Devin Shin hey guess what they started Trey Jones that actually happened everybody brace yourselves so but Hector the way the Spurs fought in that Milwaukee game to The Bitter

End you and I talked about this after the game we want we said to sa this for you know this show did we get a glimpse of what could be did we get a glimpse of what could happen perhaps this season or maybe as early as next next season is

This what we should expect from the Spurs once that seasoning time chemistry getting familiar all that good stuff come together because that if we can get that team moving forward that’d be fun you know what’s what’s fascinating about this is we think that we might get this team

Now if we get to see more train Jones in that start lineup is point you mentioned Trey a little while ago now is it just a coincidence that in his first game starting they nearly knocked off one of the League’s best teams in in the type

Of game that you described like Not only was it close and not only did they almost win but they played well like they played really really well he played really well and he played really really well so you know 10 games from now if if Trey is kind of plateaued off and

They’re back to losing games somewhat frequently by 30 plus games well then it’s the same difference right yeah but if 10 games from now they’ve won a couple they’ve they’ve almost beat a couple of other good teams and they’re just overall moving the ball better and just playing Freer and more fluid well

Then yeah this this we could look back at the Milwaukee game and go that was the impetus like that was what set this team in motion to What Not only would it would it will be the rest of the year but what we thought we were G to get

Pre-season remember Jeff like the wi winning wanyama like basically over it’s the umbrella under which everything else hits right yes yes but under that umbrella was kind of like this Intrigue about this Spurs team like and and I know people outside of San Antonio who

Hear me say that are going to be like Intrigue dude they they won 22 games last year what’s intriguing about that well when Dev KJ Jer Jeremy uh Kellin when they were well I think I might have said Kellen twice in there uh balaki included him in there too with how how

Good his rookie season was when they were together the team actually looked pretty good for stretches but as we all know that wasn’t the priority last year so we didn’t especially with Devon going out later in the season for good yeah we didn’t really see them together so a

Bunch of our Wheels were turning was thinking how good how good are these guys really like could they be really pretty decent and then you add wimy and like right away they’re going to be like decent no no one expected them them to to make a de a deep playoff run this

Year but could they contend for the playin like be right around those that spot that eight n10 contempor play in you know toward the end of the season could they be that kind of a team I think that’s what a lot of us thought going in and when we envisioned what

These spurs could be and and the wimy L and you add wimy to the mix and the fast break and they’re young and they’re athletic and they get up in the court and the pace I think last night even though they all played extremely well I

Think last night is closer to what we thought we’d get than what we’ve seen and so there in lies the there in lies the Intriguing the Intriguing aspect of this in two parts is maybe what we saw versus Milwaukee is what we’re going to see somewhat consistently going for they

Might not play that well right but they play that style and they play they play to that level more more often than they play to the level that where they lose by 40 and then and and then the other part is well where not so much where has

It been but could it have jump started earlier if Trey maybe been inserted earlier as opposed to the the the soan you know um experiment and then get getting Malachi some minutes in there yeah yeah I when we saw versus the Bucks it had me drooling of whoa you know this team

Could be a problem moving forward you know maybe not tomorrow maybe not next month but maybe it might come sooner than later I I think this team will be kind of getting it after the Roary road trip I think after the Roary road trip we might see uh more competitive games

Out of this team what we saw versus Milwaukee just had you me the fans in the in at the frost just like whoa where did this team come from you mentioned Trey Jones I I spoke to Vel after that game versus Milwaukee and I brought it

Up I go so what did it feel like having a trade the starting unit what was the vibe and he lit up you’re were there you’re sitting near me he’s like yeah he goes that’s a true point guard he brings a different energy so you’re right if

They have Maybe started with Trey to start the season and perhaps it’s a different record maybe we’re not talking about if wi’s goingon to get in because they have the record in the allstar game and plus his performance also too they’re finally getting the ball to wimy

How hard was that how hard was that right I mean 7 foot five guy and they just couldn’t get him the ball and now they’re starting to find him they’re starting to feed him more so we’re seeing that kind of transition that way it’s a shame that the Spurs have been

Dealing with the injury bug of late uh you know mcder was out I think think they got wimy on kind of a load management the last couple games of minutes restriction but my goodness you we didn’t even talk about Devon Vel at length yet you brought him

Up uh versus the bucka where we’re sitting together if we can get consistent Devon Vel my goodness Hector this that that would be a glimpse of a nice onew combo the Spurs have moving forward well and and it’s funny that we’re talking about Devon and Trey too

Because In fairness to Jeremy and and Malachi you know how how we talked about how maybe Trey that might help kind of get this thing going more in the right direction that that they that they’ve been looking they’ve been looking for in terms of the incremental steps in fairness to Malachi

And Jeremy if the dev we saw against Milwaukee shows up more often than not then we’re gonna see the kind of performance from the team that we saw against Milwaukee U and that’s the difference between an Allstar and a guy who’s good and young but not quite there

Yet you know and that’s I think that’s what we’re seeing with de although he has been more consistent been more consistent as of late but if they get if they get 30 point plus efforts from from Davin and they’ve gotten several of this season but they well a couple with the

With the you know he he hadn’t broken 29 right until he got the season High against the lake Lakers win um if they get that kind of Devon more often than not that it’s it’s a totally different beast and it is and and I think that now

The question then becomes well was he that much was he that much more effective because he had a guy like Trey help set set him up yes Devin is gonna have the ball in in his hands for for big chunks of of of the offense so it

May not matter sometimes who gets them into their offense because in inevitably Devon’s at the top of the key waiting for wimy or whomever to come come pick and then then they go off the action but if if if Devin is going to be more effective with Trey in there because of

Things that Trey does the things that Deon talked about when he answered question against the bucks then yeah it’s it’s a it’s a different beat so I guess that’s what we’ll find out over these next couple games yeah is how much of that was Devon just having a

Spectacular night all L the G against the Lakers the second game against the Lakers to win and and all L other games and how much of it was so he was just good and how much it was well he had to do because Trey was in there with him

And they got that chemistry really likes having that point true point guard guy on the floor I think these next couple Guy games will tell us that too I’m trying not to knee-jerk off that game versus mil Milwaukee I’m like okay you know you know depending you
