[Stein] The Golden State Warriors are resistant to trading Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Jonathan Kuminga. However, there is a rising belief among rival teams that the Warriors are increasingly open to the idea of trading Andrew Wiggins.

> It must be reiterated, for starters, that the Warriors do not exactly appear to be one trade away from contention based on current form.

> There likewise continues to be zero indication that they would even explore trading franchise legends Klay Thompson or Draymond Green. The Warriors are also known to be resistant to the idea of trading Kuminga, who was selected with the No. 7 overall pick in 2021.

> Given the limited success Golden State has found when pairing Kuminga with Andrew Wiggins, there is a rising belief among rival teams that the Warriors are increasingly open to the idea of trading Wiggins, who was an integral component of their title run in 2022. The question persists: What sort of market exists for Wiggins, even though he possesses what is regarded as a team-friendly contract, so soon after he was relegated from the Warriors’ starting lineup? Wiggins, 28, is in Year 1 of a four-year, $109 million deal.

> The true tradability of Chris Paul is another question mark. Paul, 38, is essentially playing on a $30.8 million expiring contract because next season’s $30 million contract is non-guaranteed. But Paul will now be sidelined beyond the Feb. 8 trade deadline thanks to a fractured left hand expected to keep him out four to six weeks.

    as they should be.

Love Wiggins but it looks like the 2022 run was the exception and not the norm.

  2. JustJuanDollar

Breaking News: team willing to part ways with player of little value, while unwilling to trade players with value. Bold strategy, we’ll see if it pays off.

  3. FallacyFrank

This isn’t really new. Wiggins has always been included in possible trade scenarios as his contract is necessary to match whoever is coming back.

The question isnt Wiggins, it’s what young players/picks were willing to attach to him to create a valuable package.

  4. matty_nice

So what are the Warriors willing to trade? Not the underperforming vets and young guys. So Wiggins and maybe CP3? Warriors shouldn’t be looking to attach their future 1sts unless the trade makes them real contenders over the next few years.

  5. If you’re not willing to trade any of your core, you’re not really interested in getting better.

  6. Thank you wiggins for 2022 but it’s time for both sides to go their separate ways. If dubs are rollin with JK, wiggs needs a fresh start somewhere else.

What he can bring back to the dubs, who knows but he hasn’t really given them anything this season so replacing him with anything else should be better than what they’re getting now

  7. For what it’s worth, this from Marc Stein, although dated January 8th, seems to be him recapping what he and Monte Poole talked about on [January 1st on a Dubs Talk podcast](https://youtu.be/qMjMaO5E3O8?si=3Iq799SwY-1k_JWT), which was pre-Kuminga going to the media and saying he lost faith in Kerr and all but making a public trade demand, which occurred in Jan. 5th. So, context to keep in mind. Not sure if anything has changed but still notable context.

GSW seems to be very willing to sell low on players.

I think they should move Kuminga and I know that’s unpopular with the fan base but he started making odd Instagram posts last year. I don’t believe he’ll stay once his rookie contract is up.

  9. live with klay and die with klay

looks like they will die with klay

Funny wiggins getting all the blame when klay has been terrible all year

  10. by_yes_i_mean_no

I hope the Kuminga thing is just posturing and they are looking to trade him. This is the “sell high” moment imo.

  11. trading wiggins right now would probably be to a team like mem or cle looking to get a 3 to fill a whole in their roster for cheap. Probably would
not be getting anything valuable back in return. Like two salary filler role players which does not help our current situation at all since our team has plenty of role players.

  12. If they’re serious about being contenders, everyone not named Steph should be on the table. If they just want to ride into the sunset with the core 3, everyone else should be available, for either younger potential stars and draft picks.

I am not going to pretend Wiggins has all star value, but he’s worth more than when we got him. His contract is much better. The other part, IMO, is that he needs out of GS just as he needed out of MIN. His best friend was Poole. The way that the organization sided with Draymond, then sent Poole out … I think he’s not comfortable here, maybe straight up unhappy. Move him someplace new, and I bet his game returns closer to his 2022 form.

So, pair Wiggins and CP, and a deal maybe out there. You hit the phones and make the availability known now to increase the possibility of a 3 way deal by the deadline.

Dangling Wiggs is probably just bait to see which teams might be looking to get him on a big discount then pull a switcheroo and work in a counter with something with CP/JK/Moody with some posturing about “I really didn’t want to let go of JK but…” just to keep the Dubs side of the deal higher in value.

  15. guesswhodat

I don’t think it’s a personnel issue. The winning vibe is gone and has been gone after we won in 2022. I really think the effects of Dray punching Poole is still in the air even though he’s gone now.

  16. BeetLover1111

So the warriors don’t want to trade their best players and would be open to trading an underperforming player? Who would’ve thought !

  17. I hope we workout a 2 for 1 or something where we give more and take back less because any even amount trade player-wise is most likely going to continue the log jam on the roster. Good that we have quality players but there’s just too many mouths to feed and the front office needs to find the 10ish guys they’re willing to ride it out with

  18. WryKombucha

Trade anyone and everyone except the core. Winning teams don’t have time to “develop” players. Build the team with one purpose. To win. If we have to use the word “develop” for a player, that player doesn’t belong on this team.

That’s how we optimize to win. Not this half assed “I can’t make up my mind” roster filled with developing players.

Next year Klay resigns for cheap
    Cp3 retires
    Wiggs contract offloaded

Sign who we need. Lauri? Siakam? KD?

    No more development.

    Other option:
    – go full rebuild. Abandon Steph. No fucking way I support this but others here do. It’s an option.

  19. Based on his complete lack of playing time this year, I’m guessing Moody is on the trade block as well. So for me the question is, what can we realistically get back for Wiggins, CP and Moody?

  20. dating_derp

Regardless of your feelings, the core 3 are untouchable for what they brought to this organization. For building this franchise from a poverty franchise to one worth billions today.

Wiggins, although he certainly has his defenders, seems to many like he’s been playing significantly worse this year. And while some people might like to hold onto him, and hope he can turn it around this year, Steph just doesn’t have that kind of time.

Steph’s got maybe next year as the last year he can carry a team through the finals. So this post season matters. We can’t just punt it. Wiggins has a large salary slot, and CP3 has a large salary slot. So they make the most sense in terms of a trade, along with Moody since we’re guard heavy and Kerr doesn’t like playing him anyway.

  21. Nessmuk58

Doesn’t matter if CP3 is injured past the deadline. A team that values his expiring contract is the most likely deal, and they won’t care if they miss a couple of weeks of his on-court time this year. What Wiggs is worth on the trade market is a much thornier question.

  22. ziggy_zigfried

    These leaks are sad

Hey twist our arms and maybe will send you Wiggins but it hurts!

  23. If Klay and Draymond are warriors “legends” then Wes Welker/Julian Edelman and Ty Law/Stephon Gilmore are Patriots “legends.”

  24. neo9027581673

Ya’ll keep saying Wiggs has no value, but MDJ literally traded Jordan ‘no value’ Poole for CP3. It can be done.

  25. thesecondandre

Increasingly??? Maybe I’m a prisoner of the moment and my mood regarding the Warriors is usually dependent on the last game we played, which in this case, we were outright embarrassed in… I have no shame.

I thought we were past increasingly and were at fore-freaking-gone conclusion that he would be outta here.

  26. DarthWalmart

Unbelievable that we won’t trade Dray or Kuminga. I understand Dray a little bit, but if trading him can get us a second scorer, it’s a no-brainer to me. He literally has been a net negative to this team for the last three years.
