Excited how excited are we I have to say I I think the last two games that the Bulls have played the Hornets have both been at home and I just remember like watching and talking with Cody westerland who I sit next to sometimes at and just being like man the Hornets
Are the worst watch in the NBA they’re really brutal and they’re missing a players too so it’s just yeah which again it was a similar scenario when these teams faced off on Friday uh and the Bulls got a w the Hornets were short-handed they will be even more
Short-handed tonight uh so Lamela ball still out Gordon Hayward still out Mark Williams still out on top of that we saw PJ Washington leave Friday’s game with a sprained foot he is not playing or available tonight and then I mean just piling up Cody Martin came down with a
Groin strain on the injury report they’re GNA have to do their best without his services tonight also this is a we we faced a depleted and bad Hornet team Friday we’re going to face an even more depleted and still bad Hornet team tonight zero excuses for the
Bulls tonight seriously and you know I I almost feel bad for Terry Rosier who’s like just going up against these guys on his own but yeah Hornets are just one of those teams where it seems like they’re ready to sim the season because it’s not even like they’re developing a bunch of
Young players like even the Pistons and the Wizards are like pretty bad pretty terrible but at least there’s like all right you can spend this year trying to develop some of the young players with all these young guys out for the Hornets it’s just like what are
We doing here yeah I mean obviously you’re you’re trying to build this team around Lamela ball theoretically uh obviously also a team that just went through a change in ownership so maybe there are different views as far as the paths they take from here on out as you
Mentioned you know we’re we’re not not even halfway through January and they’re basically playing a Dead season um so in in the meantime though it’s nothing but good news for the Bulls who have not just a a very winnable game in front of them tonight but a f very favorable
January schedule uh for a team that is currently in that playing picture and could continue stacking some wins in January like they did in December we’ll talk about a little bit more what that means as we uh move into pregame but speaking of you know who’s in and who’s
Out out for the Hornets everybody’s out tough just everybody just tough for them yeah no they might you know if they F find uh you know a few people in the stands who look active and and physically fit tonight they might ask him to play maybe that’s where Dave is
He’s warming up you know it it could be it could be he’s everywhere man uh meanwhile for the Bulls mostly good news on the injury front uh Caruso who was a scratch from Friday who had a neck injury was listed as questionable did not participate in the non-con uh Bulls
Practice yesterday he is available as is Patrick Williams who also missed that game Friday with his re-aggravated ankle injury also Vu no setbacks for him he will be available tonight the one somewhat surprising one on the Bulls injury front will was that Zack LaVine who came and played his first game Back
Off the Bench physically looked pretty good uh was downgraded earlier today from probable to questionable with not just some more inflammation in that foot that caused him to miss the last month of action but on top of that some sort of new shoulder injury but he went through pregame warm-ups and apparently
Has been given the green light so Caruso Pat Vu Zach all available so basically other than Tory Craig you have your whole compliment of players yeah and you always have to like have the appropriate fear of your opponent like you can’t just kind of mail it in but you calling
It a trap game no no just you know have have a respect for your opponent healthy respect but I mean this is the kind of game where I just would not be playing Caruso maybe at all like certainly not heavy minutes uh it just seems like the
Kind of game that they should win pretty easily and they did the other night without cuso so why not just kind of give him as much rest and it’s not even rest as much with so as it is like avoiding injury like you want to just
Take him out of a situation where he could hurt himself insane player body management just Insanity management yeah Insanity management there you go psycho management uh so but it’ll be good to have him back and hopefully they keep the minutes down Zach was interesting you know we don’t have too much
Information about what was going on with the shoulder soreness there were a couple plays where he kind of barreled into the rim and um try to put a shoulder into somebody’s chest to create some space and maybe that was uh somewhere where he may have tweaked it
Or you know whatever it may be right um but yeah V I think was totally fine he was like after the game the other night he was like I’m done with the minute mes restriction like I don’t like doing that like hopefully I’m back to my normal
Well so it’s interesting you bring that up because the Bulls did just release their starting lineup for tonight and while Zach has been given the green light to play he and Vu will once again come off the bench tonight your starting five are Kobe Caruso Dear Pat and
Drummond so same uh same deal as Friday with Zach and Vu playing rolles Off the Bench which maybe is Billy’s way of trying to keep their minutes down a little bit yeah almost certainly would be a minutes restriction move uh he explained the other day before the game
That basically if you are playing uh 24 minutes a game and you’re starting you get six minutes at the and he wants you uh finishing halves right so you want to play the last six minutes of the game right and the last six minutes of the half if you’re playing the first six
Minutes with starters and then you also want to play the last 6 minutes of the half that means you have 12 minutes of game time where you’re not going in and I think that’s uh chance for guys to stiffen up or um just to get cold on the
Bench and so they want to avoid that by basically shortening the game making it six minutes on six minutes off six minutes on uh for each half and um seemed to work out I know V was not a big fan of it I’m sure Zach would like
To be back in his minutes although he seemed pretty gassed after that last game but it’s going to be a work in progress to get them back the one thing I will say is Billy has mentioned this a couple times he said it most recently um
Think it was prior to the last Hornet game but basically Zach is just like a superhero and when he’s out for a long time he can just get back into game shape right away because he’s just such a freak athlete so I don’t imagine this ramp up period lasting too long for him
And then obviously V was out for a week it shouldn’t be that big right yeah V I was going to say not not as long of an absence as Zach so you would assume could get his win back faster but it just it’s it interesting you mentioned that little anecdote for Billy about
Zach being an athletic freak cuz he did you know you posted a video of Y all talking to him in the locker room Friday night after the game and he said like yeah I’m not going to lie like I’m exhausted I’m going to sleep like a baby
Tonight or however he phrased it but then he also on on the heels with that comment said like you know give me another couple days like another couple games I I’ll get my win right back um there’s like running in practice and doing sprints and stuff like that but
There’s nothing that really simulates full speed NBA gameplay and so you have to play your way into shape yeah uh sh shout out to our guy fish in the comments who said hopefully Kobe and Pat can have a big game at home in NC that’s right two North Carolina guys um dreads
Meanwhile saying that he wants to see another great game uh and solid minutes from dalen tonight and dalen not starting you know we saw him get his first ever career start uh with their injury issues the other night um but you know that that is another interesting wrinkle to the bulls actually getting
Healthy as Bulls fans have sort of had this little mini love story of seeing Dal and Terry grow in his role does that now shrink back with having more of your rotation guys and more of your you know main guys available yeah it’s going to I mean just naturally like those minutes
Go away when you have star players coming back into the rotation so um just means that those guys will have to do more with fewer minutes and make sure that they make an even bigger impact when they do have an opportunity so I think they’ve all earned the ability to
Be in the rotation but you’re talking about 11 deep right now and that’s even without Tory Craig so these guys are just gonna have to continue to make Billy’s life Difficult by you know playing their asses off uh shout out to Luke who threws a super chat in the

Look on your your screen there if you’re watching on YouTube thank you Kev so you got Hornets tonight you also have hornets rounding out January January 31st so another very potential win there Rockets Warriors who are struggling mightily the Spurs who are not good Cavs mid team Toronto struggling Memphis have
A jaw back but still not a great team Phoenix struggling Lakers struggle busing Portland not very good and Toronto again that is the easiest strength of schedule in the NBA in the month of January yes uh according to nba.com the Bulls strength of schedule as of December so based on teams records
December 31st their strength schedule for the month of January was winning percentage opponents 42 so well below 500 and to put in perspective just how easy of a schedule that is the team with the second easiest strength of schedule in January is the Cleveland Cavaliers their opponents winning percentage in January is
0443 so like huge gap between the bull strike the schedule and the Cavs that’s true here come the Bulls baby nine seed in sight some of that’s misleading that’s sarcastic some of that is misleading Kev can you put that back up for me please got you something that’s a
Little misleading though um I would say Houston is is a the Bulls always struggl against them oh yeah they also just beat the Bucks they’re very good Houston’s a real team they’re a good team golden state is getting Draymond back I think that’s that’s going to be interesting
You know to see him re acclimated in there and the Bulls struggle against them too so it doesn’t matter who they got out there Cleveland just already showed us that they can beat the Bulls even without their best players they can do that Memphis getting johnar back is
Is very important and Toronto have they lost with him yet since he came back in the lineup yeah they went on a little skid okay yeah just yeah right he’s absolutely right Phoenix hopefully they won’t be healthy by the time the Bulls play that game or that’s going to be a
Problem as well and Toronto is another team that the Bulls uh struggle against so yeah like and they’re playing a lot better since trading for quickly absolutely right absolutely right so and again there might be more trades coming for them too with Pascal SE yakum so
We’ll see how it works so yeah on paper yeah like Portland you know San Antonio and of course Charlotte shout out um what you call Clint City but shout out to them but those those games I’m like yeah but everybody else I think those are real problems you know for the Bulls
And they’re not just walk over with getting the victory kind of way no I like I other than Charlotte and especially if Charlotte remains as injured as they are thank you Kevin um those are the only ones that you can chalk up it’s like oh that’s a win right
Yeah the Bulls are just not good enough of a team to Circle any date on the calendar as that’s a win they’re just not plain and simple um but it is what it is in that it is a favorable schedule you don’t see a just a smattering of a
Bunch of different playoff teams in that January schedule the other thing is that four of these games are at home eight are on the road gos are 12 and N at home and four and 12 on the road so correct that is the other part that is they do
Perform a lot better at home uh more difficult but I I mean and maybe it’s just my cynicism and like I I I just have this fear this this like lingering fear that with this schedule and guys getting healthy the Bulls are going to find their way to some wins this
Month why is wait I’m confused this the problem why is this a fear of mine yeah because we are one month away from the NBA trade deadline Dave and the Bulls are currently I believe tied in the ninth and 10th spots uhuh of the Eastern Conference playin picture yes sir if the
Bulls who are what what are they five games out of 500 four games 16 and 21 16 and 21 if they manage to have another winning month in January on the heels of a winning December mhm even if it’s against subpar opponents and if it’s they win one more game then they lose
But it’s a winning month MH as we get closer and closer to that February 8th trade deadline we know how this team and its front office operates they see a little sliver of Hope and they cling to it so if the Bulls continue to get calls from teams around the league interested
In say Alex guso maybe even Andre Drummond looking to beef up their front Court depth heading to the playoffs and teams changing their mind and deciding you know what we actually do really want to add Zack LaVine to our playoff bound team right now and we’ll give you this
For him maybe even dear on an expiring the Bulls have tradeable assets I am terrified that they are going to spend January maybe winning one or two more games than they lose still being kind of a team that’s floating a couple games under 500 but very much in that Eastern Conference playing picture
And decide that what they really need to do is double no no nay triple no nay quadruple no nay quintuple down on hashtag continuity and it’s going to drive me flipping crazy and I know I’m not the only one I think you should get a head start on emotionally preparing for that because
What makes you think I haven’t I’m just making sure because yeah I mean I they that that’s what they want I just that it is what it is and um I think they’re going to continue to explore deals for Zack LaVine I think that move is more at
Least at the beginning was more motivated by money and less motivated by a desire to like not compete um I think the same same is probably true with dear like if he makes it clear to the front office that he does not want to resign they’re probably going to have to move
Him um but they also can pay him a lot more money than anybody else probably will if they’re able to move Zack LaVine so I think Zach is likely to some sort of Zack deal is likely to go down that will change the team in some capacity
We’ll see what happens with thear I’m not expecting Caruso to go anywhere and you know I think they are kind of in this group I talked about today with Tim ller on the all-nba show they there’s like the top of the East the Celtics Buck Sixers there’s the upper
Middle class of the East magic Cavs Nicks Pacers Heat all within uh all have 15 losses 21 and 15 21 and 15 21 and 15 20 and 15 20 and 15 that’s a tier and then the Bulls are in this other this lower middle class tier with the Nets
The Raptors and the Hawks they’re all within a game of each other and they are five games back of the seventh and eighth seeds right and they they are five games back of seven and eight but you know if they can get to the top of

Few different you know uh reliable sources is that if the Bulls and Zach are going to still try over the next month to find him a new team that what the Bulls are looking for in return is players who can come here and help this team continue to try to
Compete now and in the immediate future as opposed to draft Capital yeah which is maybe what some Bulls fans were hoping for and thinking was the plan but I mean maybe especially given the way that we saw the bull strings and wins together in Zach’s absence if you find a
Trade for him and that trade involves a couple of players that Billy Donovan feels like he can put into his rotation mid-season uh and do so successfully then even if you do still make that big decision to trade Zach you’re your eyes are still on well let’s get to the play
In tournament you know like strive to somehow have some gigantic run in the back half of the season and you know maybe get to the six seed but get to the playing tournament maybe get to the playoffs and do so without Zack LaVine cuz we’re going to get some players back

Part of another team so that they have his bird rights so if I’m dear and I the Bulls have my bird rights they can pay they can go over the cap to pay me whereas a team who is not or or who is over the cap could not pay dear as a
Free agent more than the mid-level exception you tell them what birds rights are bird rights are the uh basically means that the team that you’re on can exceed the salary cap to retain you so dear as a free agent could not sign with the Lakers next year because they’re already above the salary
Cap the most he could get is the mid-level exception but with the bulls they could pay him $40 million a year if they cleared out enough space because he’s already on their roster and they have his bird rights so demaret say AK I really want to go play for the Lakers
Next year I’m not going to resign with you do yourself a favor trade me to the Lakers and get something back because I want to sign with the Lakers next year and I can only do that if they have my bird rights so I could see Demar kind of
Not forcing his way out but suggesting you know we just saw that with Aaron Goodwin who is uh Damen L’s Damen Lillard’s agent as well as dears uh do a similar thing I heard that don’t worry I got you dude that was the funny thing appreciate Kevin man like Kevin be
