Nuggets’ Jamal Murray on Nikola Jokic’s 4 PTS & 16 Asts, Win Vs Pistons, & Peyton Watson

Jamal 37 points tonight what was working for you uh I mean I think everybody played well just getting everybody involved you know um when you got Shooters out there like you know P shooting well um CB shooting with confidence you know you can’t leave kcp for too long um Mike out there so

You know having shoes around like that helps and uh create the space for me to knock it down uh 16 assists for Joker tonight only four points he uh have you ever seen a center do that do what four points and 16 assists five blocks to

Five block so that’s an unusual St line I don’t know I have to ask him thank you yeah sorry if you touched on this earlier in your career but when did you develop that kind of mid post back to the basket game oh well I mean I grew up

Playing I was taller than everybody so I grew up playing the five so you know my dad and I we worked uh in and then out um saw the hook jump hooks um left hand right hand that’s where I developed that touch and then um just kind of moved my

Way out saw anything we did with the right hand we do the left and uh just kind of work our way up but I’ve always had to you know I feel for I feel for the footwork or you know where the weight is um on my body and um

Being able to manipulate them or you know having have to recover to jump just kind just playing the game down there and uh obviously watching everybody before me um all the greats I do a lot of studying I watch a lot of forwork I slow the tape down and rewatch so um

Constantly just trying to get better and improve my game down there talking just real are we talking about like MJ and Kobe or were the other guys that oh yeah lots no Lots um I mean you want me name I I mean those were the first that came

With my mind I right yeah good job you’re right who else no I mean Kobe um Keen Dirk um try to think of the ones that you know not the obvious ones to watch Andre Miller um go yeah see you know what I’m saying uh there’s another guy I don’t want to I

Don’t want to miss him but I’m going to how how much do you have to work on that during your offseason for it to continue to feel natural like it’s more natural than it ever was you especially coming off the rehab um just you know playing a slightly slow

Slower step um so just kind of getting to my spot being able to get there and and obviously I can I have a lot of moves on there so um I like to you know have the opportunity to not just know go to my turn around

Fade you no be able to get to the rim try to draw a foul um you know spin drive or or look to kick whatever you know so I just try to keep keep the defense off balance coach M’s you know made the third quarter of qu of defis

You guys responded with your best quarter of the of the season I guess what went right that quarter what were we guys doing different uh I think we all as a team you know decided to get out there a little earlier we was in good spirits though no

For real we was in good spirits and we just wanted to um hold ourselves accountable as well we not to allow coaches to say something so I thought we a good job just coming ready to play knowing that you know this team is they’re trying to win you know they’re

They’re playing hard as hell and uh you know we were able to just kind of uh get a run early he said that you were in the hallway telling guys we got to defend better in the second half coming out after the second quarter is that partially a response to the last

Two games when you give up 85 combined in in those third quarters yeah for sure I just think we we just we could have played a lot better on the defense end and and the rebounding you know we knew we could score we knew we could uh

Create open shots uh we knew kind of go oneon-one um but it was it felt like a two-point game at the half I don’t know what it was but um that’s what it felt like and we just knew that we could hold ourselves to a higher standard and and

Take care of a business at home and try to get that number one seat when you’re driving in pick and roll with DJ versus with Joker just what are some of the not just differences there but like like different things you’re trying to look for in in those

Sets you want my tips away Ryan um maybe have the ball for a second longer U with DJ because he’s he’s holding the screen a little longer um where there a joke we’re more on the same line together um uh maybe try to snake a little more

With I picked myself SW with joke but I try to snake a little more with DJ um knowing that he’ll roll behind it cuz he’s holding the screen um and then y can look to we weak side you know normally theom is going to be in because

It’s DJ um so I’m looking for the corner if he’s going to cut or not I wanted CB to cut today he didn’t um um but yeah I mean it’s just it’s just slightly different I don’t think it’s know I don’t try to make it too much of

A difference he’s still trying to play the game and and put pressure on the low man and um have to have to honor DJ at The Rim Joker is obviously it’s going to be a pocket pass I’m not throwing it up yeah how how impressed Have You Been by

By Reggie and DJ’s pick and roll what both when you were out earlier in the season and and now yeah they’re really good um now re’s been hooping man he he’s a really good finisher uh got the floaters Left Right hands um same leg other leg you know what it is so you

Know it puts a lot of pressure on the on the big to try to contain a good finisher and on top of that you know the rooll guy that’s jumping like DJ so um I think it’s been it’s been amazing for us and um also having the single side tag

Guy you know if it’s Julian or or me today was me today um that also makes it a little difficult for them you play at this business team twice this season I know they they’ve been struggl but do they seem like a team that is supposed to be I guess

Indicative of of their record 3 33 I didn’t play the first game um but I mean I don’t I don’t watch I’m sorry I don’t watch all the games um they’re not like yeah they’re no they’re not a like Kate said they’re not two and 26 bad you know what I’m saying

Like they’re they they they play hard um I think they had bogy out for a while right they had uh some guys out so I mean maybe that play A Part guys in another lineup um but yeah I I don’t I don’t have too much to say I don’t yeah Denver Nugget

Fan pton had 13 of his points in the third like he’s just growing rapidly just looks like just what what are you seeing from him behind the scenes just how is he continuing to push himself to get better I think it’s less about the skill just more about the confidence you

Know I think he’s just playing confident just um finding uh where he can score where he can make an impact on the game um defending um even if he doesn’t getting not getting the ball you know he knows he can be out there rebounding trying to block shots or just doing

Something else so um I think confidence and uh just and um having belief in a shot and belief in in what he can do on the court I think everything else will take care of itself you know uh him Christian too I think both of guys have

Grown tremendously um in a small amount of time so uh yeah Julian’s next how how does the confidence click is it just like you get enough minutes eventually that it’s going to come with the Reps or I think it’s playing through mistakes I think that’s the biggest one when I was

Playing you know I could come in I played I didn’t play a lot rookie here but um you know I could shoot but it would could I play defense you know that was the question could I rebound and push you know was I um could I end games

Was I whatever whatever it was um so I think just you know getting the encouragement from the guys on the bench from the coaches you know watching and learning and being put in that situation again after making a mistake I think that helps a [Applause] lot Oh
