Episode 3: Sixers All-Access – Out The Mud
Playing alongside ped this is never a dull Moment his conf is Sky High um he’s a person who has dreams and aspirations to be great he plays harder than a lot of guys in the league his drive and his motor is extremely high I want to be great so bad it com it com to time Paul is is someone who
Really represents Philly really well I mean he works extremely hard uh he’s getting it out the mudy yeah he scream out the mud but he’s a loving individual he know out the mud his people had his back and he shows loyalty and love towards his people yeah he’s it’s just been amazing
To be able to be a teammate with and learning each and every day to where he’s progressing now and I’m uh super proud of him after biing his time Paul Reed finally got to show what he could do Midway through the season earning the role as Joel embiid’s primary backup but
The question mark is what kind of Market do you see for Paul Reed Paul pretty much took over to starting backup center roll but I don’t say him going nowhere but I think the Sixers were signning they did draft him a lot of times if you
Play pretty good for the team to draft you they W to bring you back for more than other team so I think he’s right at home Here come on Draco you ready what made me want to get a adg was just being at the apartment when I first moved in I was getting bored I’m like dang I might as well get a dog so I got Draco come here come here come here
Come here drop it no drop it drop it see you want to play Tu War all the time Drop It Real Pit Bull other dogs ain’t ain’t got draws like that this is actually my first dog I ever had had a goldfish I don’t know
What that count once I got him it was like having a kid for real like real responsibility just taking him to dog park playing with him like frisbee catch oh c that too teaching him tricks Draco sit give me P hey good boy Draco has a IG right yeah one of my
Friends actually the one that had the idea you make him one get him some clout I think one of the things that came up was trying to get brand Partnerships get him some like drip I think that was one of the main reasons the couch you in especially yet
Like the couch you can put it in the uh that living room right there right now I really just want the space for Draco for real he needed a backyard Draco move come here number one thing I enjoy about being a dog dad is the energy that I get
From him when I get home you got some more toys man okay and you just got this bundle of joy just ready to play with you hopping around you know it’s it’s a good feeling to have that energy at home waiting for you now that bball Paul is back we are going to
Celebrate you know at the end of the day you know we in the business it ain’t it ain’t nothing personal it’s all about getting that bad Paul Reed signing elsewhere but will they match the offer sheet should they match the offer sheet I understand what feeling was coming
From from they wanted to see like how much I was worth on the market essentially we found out the Philadelphia 76ers are going to match the offer sheet from the Utah Jazz and Paul Reed will be returning to the Sixers here when they match the deal I
Was very surprised I was happy you know that was probably the best day of the summer for me good job with a contract the fans in Philly are are Die Hard fans I think we all know that and you can’t really get mad at them I’m actually grateful cuz I understand that
Other cities aren’t as active for their team so I’m grateful to be able to play for a team that that has supportive fans they love him uh phly fans they love him they respect him it’s been times where we went out to eat or we did things around the community and people
Are literally calling him bball Paul and it’s like when my uncle calls him B Paul my dad calls him ball Paul everybody in my family even all the way up to my grandmother they call call B Paul so I mean that’s just something that he kind
Of uh you know adopted from the city and it’s been really good for him baby my man out the mud out the mud that’s been saying that I’ve been using for a long time now once it blew up was when I think I got sent back to the g- league
And you know how rookies come in thinking they F to start right away going to get all this playing time I was kind of like that I ain’t realize how much adversity I was going to have to face to uh to get to where I’m at now
Reed pins it against the glass re turns the corner goes reverse Jam I kind of had that realization like dang I’m really going to have to work for this like it ain’t going to be handed to me and that going to be easy that’s kind of
Been my thing my whole life so I had to get it out the m at college I had to get out the M high school it’s been the same thing for me every step of the way they don’t understand how valuable it is to just have a role on the team ain’t
Nothing wrong with that nothing nothing wrong with it especially when you play role as well as you do yeah exactly that’s a big credit to you you’re are you are the epitome of the role player yeah you got to be allar I mean that’s
How I feel you got to be allar in your role and then of course you want your role to enhance and change and you want to do more but at the same time you got to do what the team needs you to do and that that that’s more important so then
I had TW it like I’m going to have to get it out the mud again you know you know how Philly fans is they be on Twitter heavy so that’s when it blew up I understand all that it’s going be like this every every every new level I try to Hit on the offseason I’ll be in Philly almost more than I be in Orlando that’s where I’m from I mean and uh I kind of like the city Vibes I like going out knowing that people actually like me you oh you see it right there they going have yourbody out there on the
Field blocking gos hit it hard but I would say as a professional athlete um BG bent the Mallet so uh you don’t have to hit it with all of your I met Brandon Graham at a union game a soccer game we was chopping it up you know we both you
Share the same zodiac sign we both Geminis so that kind of gave us something to bond over and then we just been cool ever since [Applause] then so you know what I seen the Eagles playing I’m like damn I don’t really know too many other players I know
Brandon though so you know I want to support him so I you know wear a Jersey to the game you know D him up on the field all that type of stuff it’s cool it’s VI hey good luck today good luck today try the game yes
Sir turnning my energy I feel like they always try to treat me like a VIP guest people going out their way to treat me like special I appreciate things like [Applause] That let’s go let get this up come on I’m a coach I’m the head coach congrats on the new contract man you’re a great appreciate it hey man I feel crazy something I feel all the energy in the stadium right now look man I’ve been
In the wait room I ain’t going to lie to you the Drone felt like a little twig to me it feel amazing like it’s undescribable how the energy from Philly feels undescribable for my next step understand that it’s a lot more that I
Have to do to get to where I want to be and you know I’m still learning like the development coaches last season I feel like helped me a lot oh said two no no no I said three I said this the last one we got three it’s three I’ve been working with
Bball Paul for about four years now Paul is consistent I’m persistent and has an amazing work ethic KN down the three offensive rebound Reed OHS it up and in oh re the adjustment in midair by B Paul what I love most about him honestly is that he is a great example for our
New batch of young guys for vets that come in um to see what work looks like in the wait room um man BK has been very very very influential on my on my development every day I work with K and know he’s always we always talking about like our
Goals we always talking about what it takes to get there he he he always reading books so we always talking about different books that has helped our bu so it’s more than just lifting weights for BK it’s really a friendship and kind of like a Brotherhood kind of
Like I know he got my back know he know I got his uh and he wanted to see me you know accomplish all my goals he’s an extraordinary rebounder you know sometimes he goes up and gets rebounds in the game where where I’m like dang PR just got that like he goes
And gets it you’re talking about a guy you know hardest worker in the gym it kind of goes without saying kind of what his improvement over the years just um self-explanatory every guy who’s lessed enough to get in the NBA is talented but I think it’s that work ethic that
Separates guys I got then it’s the the Difference Maker and you know why some guys are able to take that lead I think he just said like pure love to basketball like that’s all I can say with him it’s big for players to do stuff outside of basketball um I think
He found something that you know he’s passionate about 6 3 1 2 [Applause] 3 get that somebody in my position has to be able to give back some way somehow and for me you know doing camps and you know participating hang just giving knowledge back to the youth that’s kind of my way
Of giving back I think the biggest things that that Paul brings to the table is energy and his work ethic and just how just how involved he gets into the game and how many extra possessions he can get you and the things they can do defensively that a lot of guys can’t
Do he just plays so hard skill he had a skill of playing hard and rebounding and just being his tenacity that’s I feel like part re is the same way as far as how he plays the game and how he approaches it he’s a real active player
Uh loves to get offensive rebounds run the floor and he’s also really good finisher you know which I think is underrated with both hands so uh being able to play with him you know makes my job easier too you know cuz how active he is and you know defensively you know
He’s ready to block shots box out rebound uh and run the floor with us his his dog is out the mentality it’s a mentality um he eat sleep live it breathe it so with that being said he’s hustling to try to strive in and get get
Things done so you can say he got a chip on his shoulder his uh that mentality to have is is going to separate you from a lot of guys because on days where you you may not have nothing left you with that mentality you’ll find more within your
Game and within yourself and that’s what he’s doing expanding his game getting better every year each time so expect him expect him to to to to keep excelling and keep Growing
