Ime Udoka on Rockets mistakes in Heat loss

Ime Udoka on Rockets mistakes in Heat loss

Or early on yes it was that was the case I mean they got a lot of second CH I think we just stood there and that’s what we showed at halftime was our lack of effort and pursuing those um kept them in the game got them the lead got

Them some open threes but I felt we got better at at that in the first half and then um you know just missed assignments defensively understanding how they guard defensively so they made us think on both ends and we didn’t handle it well what you think of what you saw from cam

Whitmore tonight just him using his athleticism yeah I mean he was aggressive he you know had some misassignments as well on both ends but um at least he was playing hard doing it and so that’s a that’s a bright sign you know but in general when I say mistakes

It was adjusting to the refs and how they were calling it um had 31 fouls and then even cam on the play charging into uh Kevin Love one of the top charge takers Jaylen charging into um Kyle Lowry so that’s recognition and like I said they smarted Us in those aspects

When we know that’s what they do hello Coach what do you think about your player alpar and Shang Yun becoming the or selected as the player of the week for NBA last week what do you think about his performance and how he is developing with your leadership yeah it

Was great had a great week obviously um put up some big numbers and helped us get some wins so welld deserving you know he’s a young guy that’s really taking a big step this year and and showing a ton of growth um you know tonight probably wasn’t one of his

Better ones overall in general but um like I said Miami is a smart team that takes away some things and and that’s the next step in his growth is understanding these different coverages how the guys are going to guard him and um making an easy play but overall he’s

Been great all year um learned a ton growing a ton and you know with 50 50 about 50 games to go we got a chance to take another leap can you be a little bit more specific about the the coverages that you know Alie was seeing tonight it seemed like he didn’t really

Get going until later and then he was in foul trouble and that kind of undercut him yeah I mean they guard him straight up with out of Bio initially and then when they switch anybody else on him you know they’re frontting the post and we had some turnovers trying to go in or

Yeah threw the ball away you know and then when he does get the ball inside just using those guys baiting them to get other shots instead of trying to beat the double team so you know they’re fronting you they’re you know taking away the catch initially when you do get

It you know the weak side Low Man’s coming and like always he’s a really good passer if he wants to do it and make the simple read instead of trying to beat it and that’s when we had some turnovers there Fred had a great shooting start again when he gets hot

Like that is it kind of tough to to tell the other guys like okay you can’t just rely on him to keep doing that like yeah I mean regardless I think that’s one of our next step that we have to take is uh others making plays and making the reads

Especially in the pick and roll um Fred had a big game and had a big scoring night but like I said he usually makes the right read regardless shot or finding guys and uh at times puts a lot of burden on him when others aren’t

Doing it at the same level and so as a coach you obviously trust that but you don’t want to run him into the ground as well as halt others development in that area so we need to find a balance of others making those right reads um and

Picking their spots but yeah feels like we had to wasted night with his effort today thanks Co thank you thank

Ime Udoka talks to reporters after the Houston Rockets fell to 3-11 on the road with a loss to the Miami Heat on 1/8/2024. Udoka talked about Jalen Green, Cam Whitmore and Alperen Sengun, who won the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week but struggled to figure out how to attack some of Miami’s coverages in this one.

  1. Every ball need to meet with him (alperen)then he will try to go basket or assist his friends… When huston play like that they always win game but this game every player try to do something shoot unnecessary and play selfish ! Alpi smart enough manage his friend but his friends cant manage him! They played not for win tjey played for statistics!!!

  2. Jaleen you must listen to a former NBA. Who speaks, that you must get out of this team.. you will slowly loss your confidence..

  3. Does anyone understand what he tried in this match and why he still continues to play the garbage called Jalen?

  4. Bro green or tate need to be replaced by cam what the fuck. Its easy to understand cam is better than jalen ln both sides of the ball

  5. Last year, they almost won against Miami. And it was tough game. They were rebuilding team. sometimes do not focus to much on 2 players making play.. cut your Ego coach Ime..

  6. We needed defense and shooting down the stretch and yet Jabari was on the bench in place of Tate. I'm ready for Tate to be traded.

  7. Koç şu çöp jalen dan kurtul yoksa alperen sene sonu takas isteyecek ya bir de fan boyları var sabır sabır diyip duruyorlar nesine sabır edeceğiz beyin sıfır jalen da

  8. Given I have only seen the highlights, these are my observations… 1. We need off ball movement like yesterday 2. What are our options when Plan A, Plan B do not work? 3. There are some comments here that rub me the wrong way… but here is the caveat before I say why. I know I am and have been the BIGGEST true Al P fan since day one, why? Easy I was the biggest McHale fan and have been watching the Rockets and Celtics since those times c. '81…I think I know a damn dream shake when I see one as well… therefore I know what I see in Al P and it ain't Jokic. Given all of that, let Udoka coach, remember he is still wet behind the ears himself and it shows. Throw the Jalen/Sengun false binaries in the garbage bin…you think Udoka, the Front Office, etc. can't see that either Jalen must improve fast or we need to change by C.O.B. this year? Lastly it is clear that we need other weapons, Hakeem did not put up 40 pts a night people, nor did Jordan. If you want to win build a team see Celtics, you want to run up stats and fail build around a player see LeBron.

  9. Mistakes are obvious. Gabari and Jalen were so inefficient in either 2 or 3 point attempts. That cost the game. Most of the shots they took were open look ones. How come the players whose sole purpose in offense is to convert open looks to buckets fail to do so. With 8 % more efficiency, they would have won the game. 25-35 % efficiency is just not enough to get into a playoff spot.

  10. This team cannot afford to have two shot chokers on the court at the same time if they want to win a playoff or even play-in spot. Can you imagine that Gabari and Jalen had as low as 20% efficiency together, just 5/25 shooting? Alpi took 15 shots and converted 9 of them: 60% efficiency. This team needs a very good shooter of the ball with FG% of around 50 immediately.
