> There’s optimism New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson could return late in the regular season from an ankle surgery, a significant part of the reason the NBA denied them a $7.8 million Disabled Player Exception in his absence, sources told ESPN.
> The league informed the Knicks on Wednesday that they would be denying the organization’s application for the DPE, largely because NBA doctors were unable to determine that Robinson would likely be out until mid-June, sources said.
> Despite contrary reports, the Knicks have known of the possibility of a Robinson return and applied for the exception out of due diligence. The possibility of Robinson’s return is immense for the Knicks, who have been buoyed with the outstanding recent play of backup center Isaiah Hartenstein. The Knicks have been on a torrid run since the trade for forward OG Anunoby, winning five streak games and moving into fourth place in the Eastern Conference at 22-15.

Initial reports were 8-10 weeks. That would put him at a return at early to mid Feb. If the initial report was generous, maybe early March? Our current squad can definitely hold down the fort and then some with this January schedule. Once he’s back…look out!

I mean, this increases his trade value too. Contenders will be desperate for a run protector with fresh legs come playoffs.
I guess it doesn’t hurt to apply for it even if you are projecting most likely you won’t get it. I am hopefull for a Mitch return 8-10 weeks for a reevaluation would put him at early to mid-February, maybe they look at him then and give him a month timeline which should get him back early to mid-March which should give him at least some time to ramp up for the playoffs.
Mitch about to come back and put all the trade speculation to rest 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
