Loon 🤝 TJD, the secret ingredients to unlocking Playmaking Klay

Klay’s pass/assist to TJD at 8:38 in the 1st Q vs the Magic (it’s the 3rd one in the compilation) is just the nuttiest 🤯😂 Klay’s got a playmaking bag y’all

That’s what happens when you put him out there with a center who can actually finish at the rim. This is no dig at looney because I think he’s still very valuable but the amount of times Klay passed him the ball and he wasn’t able to score at the rim this year is crazy lol.

Splash Bros with a big man with elite rim finishing skills would be an amazing weapon to our offense.

TJD is practically a walking double double if Kerr can just give the rook more minutes so he can develop more.

Klay has more gravity in a pick situation than your typical PnR point guard and he’s not a major threat to drive, so the low-man on the defense feels really safe coming up high to give the guy being screened time to recover, but that extra time gives the roll man a real window to accelerate past his guy and into space.

The trick to getting Klay to expand his game is generally just him seeing success doing it and these kinds of plays have been really reliable so far. Nice to see.

edit – I’ll add how important the screen quality is on these plays too. It’s very rare to get this kind of space if the roller is slipping out early, but the fact that the screens make real contact with Klay’s defender is what requires the low man to respond, which is what makes the space. Moreso than the athleticism, TJD’s ability as a screener is what excites me (we know Looney is very good at it already).
