Maxey vs Brunson (counting stats)

People say that Brunson is a slighty better player than Maxey, but what exactly gives Brunson the slight edge over Maxey? They have almost identical stats, with Brunson being a tiny bit more efficient.

Is it because Maxey is a 2nd option while Brunson is the 1st option of the Knicks? Wouldn’t that solidify Maxey’s case more?

Brunson was better in the playoffs last year, that’s probably the reason. Also it’s definitely harder to put up good efficiency as the #1 option than as the #2 (as we can see by how Maxey has shot the ball without Embiid)

The detractors will be at full force with this one. I think they’re about the same tier of guard IMO. The difference is that Brunson has a better supporting cast.

We don’t have a Josh Hart, we don’t have a Divincezo, we don’t have those guys.

If one of our top two isn’t on that night, forget it. Bev likely isn’t gonna have some big night. I like Reed’s offensive upside, but we’re not gonna tap into that for a variety of reasons.

And there’s just flat out no catch and shoot optionality on this team, none.

Maxey’s 6.8 APG is actually suppressed mightily by poor teammate quality. Imagine if we had even ONE guy we could call a catch and shoot player

Well Brunson is 27 while Maxey just turned 23 a couple months ago. Maxey playing with the MVP a lot but regardless will be better then him by 25

Their stats are basically identical. Maxey value is higher IMHO since he is younger and has incrementally improved every year he’s been in the league. A keeper. A Sixers lifer.

Maxey does play with the mvp. They are close in value but Brunson certainly is more mature. He’s so good man

Ok now do Maxeys stats being the Number 1 option without Superstar Embiid.

Now do Brunsons stats being the 1 option.

    Thanku there’s your answer.

Brunson single handedly turned the Knickerbockers around by arriving there. Maxey has the just doesn’t have something like that on his resume

But he’s playing as well or better in half the career. By the time Maxey is 27 he could very well be a superstar, whereas Brunson likely will never have the shooting to make that jump

love me some maxey but his efficiency has dropped off a cliff this year. i do feel like he gets a bad whistle at the rim but his 3pt% is dropping hard too. brunson is a solid player i dont watch him enough to have an opinion

Very close. But Brunson can single-handedly dismantle defenses unlike just about any other PG in the league (if not including Luka at the position)

Even Steph has to be hot. Brunson can just will his team to victory in the post.
