The Scoot Henderson Disaster is Worse Than You Think…
I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone be ritten off as quickly into their career as scoot Henderson it seems like after being one of the most praised in the draft class the second he checked into the game scoot Henderson was a draft bust in the eyes of most people it’s
Easy to write off these criticisms as jumping the gun on a rookie that’s way too early into his developmental years which is very true at the end of the day but if you’re invested in the Trailblazers in one way or another and you’re not the least bit concerned about
His play up to this point I think it’s time to switch out your glasses for a more critical lens something’s going on here but is it time to hit the panic button on the scoot train quite yet growing up with parents who owned and operated a training facility it would
Probably be difficult to not be a walking bucket but scool was definitely different in the way that his first level football showed on the courts I’m sure you probably ran into a few tight ends on the courts bolt at The Rim 100 mph crash the glass like their life
Depends on it and weirdly plays better defense than dudes who spent their entire life Liv training into play this Bulldog style shine through only difference was scoot had arms down to the floor came from a family loaded with division one basketball stars and woke up at 5:00 a.m. in middle school to get
Shots up at the gym kid was obviously special he ran up lower levels of basketball to a crazy extent I mean his mom had to bring his damn birth certificate to show that this jacked middle schooler catching lobs as a kid was a kid and entering high school the
Only change was this time the mainstream attention St Ed rolling in after putting up 49 and smacking a game winner as a sophomore in the state tournaments he quickly became a top guard in the country putting up 32 7 and six with three Steals on his way to the State
Title game as a junior I mean scoo could do it all at 6’2 with a 6’9 wingspan the ceiling did look like the damn Moon an explosive Bulldog guard going a million milph changing speeds and directions on a dime and getting to the basket effortlessly at any level basketball an
Explosive guard who’s in control at all times is almost impossible to stop downhill especially when a standing reach is 8 in longer than yours with a game more developed than you expect to see from a high school kid scoot made one interesting decision with his future deciding to forego his senior year of
High school and the entirety of his college eligibility scoot decided to go pro at 17 years old joining the g-league ignite a team established in 2020 with two major case studies having gone the comparable outout thus far in Jonathan kaminga a very talented yet shell of a
Player that he could be and the poster boy sort being Jaylen green a guy who came into the league and looked like one of the better scoring punches immediately but saw a total flatlining as of late despite putting up 22 a game in his sophomore season a low 40%
Shooting High turnover low assist guard who’s basically a traffic hone on defense he might reach the top someday but all he’s really shown up to this point as being an inefficient shuer although the sample size is small there’s definitely reason to believe that the G League ignite is not going to
Prep you for the show putting a 14 a game in his first year in the league scoot received rather High Praise yet it’s easy to see the Hol shine through playing for basically nothing in the G League there’s little pride in winning and little reason to really play like
You should be you’re strictly there to be scouted to put it bluntly similar to aaou where College Scouts are your priority and your teammates are second these exhibition games are really just skill showcases regardless highlights of viral dunks and massive blocks blasted all over the Internet di for John Wall
Style of player running down and dunking on grown men at 17 years old blew the hell up as all great mixtapes do this did suppress the noise of some valid criticisms such as a 177% 3point percentage low assist to turnover ratios and injury concerns all pushed aside cuz
This dude’s Euro Step was sick after an increase in minutes in the following year there was an increase in production to a pretty much identical rate jumping to 17 points a game although it seemed like not much had changed scoots 176 and 5 were promising totals similar to high
School scoot’s draft stock was definitely abnormal as a guy who never even had a senior year of high school before he jumped into a brand new developmental team not a ton was really known about him for a guy that’s supposed to be in the top three regardless big performances in big games
Like his game against Victor wanyama in front of hundreds of Scouts the ey test from these exhibition games was basically enough to be at the top of his class and although he was never going to go number one or anything he was kind of thought of as a dark horse
For the potential to be the best player in the class by some people I mean it was there the kid can clearly beat people off the bounce with his athleticism create advantages in attack or demand help that he can dump the ball off to draw fouls somewhat well at three
A game shooting 75% from the line which did give hope that his clear lack of success shooting the ball at least had the foundation to be built upon as one of what was really one of the biggest wild cards in the draft the consensus kind of became that scoot was the second
Best thought to be pretty damn NBA ready mainly kind of due to his physical frame looking like a grown ass man and managing to be at least somewhat productive in most parts of the game fast forward to draft night and as the Hornets land the number two pick adding
Another point guard to the team that kind of gets carried by their point guard is pointless and if you’re not going to trade the pick passing on Henderson for Brandon Miller kind of came in as more of guarantee than scoot this of course left scoot Henderson to the Portland Trailblazers who just
Recently departed from their long tenard star and Damen Lillard leaving a major hole at the position with the time and opportunity to give to him giving him the keys to the offense day one scoo came in as a strong second place in preseason Rookie of the Year voting basically expecting day one productivity
But in reality I don’t think this could be further from the truth after putting up a goose egg in his first two NBA quarters the start to scoo Anderson’s career was literally as bad as it could have gone putting up 8.8 a game with four fouls a 1 to1 assist to turnover
Ratio shooting two for 21 from deep and under 35% from the field while injuring his right angle ouch five games are not even close to enough to judge his potential in the league but five games might be enough to judge how this guy was scouted because clearly the public
Perception and the professional Scout opinion had messed up a bit despite being a very strong point guard who caught a few bodies in the G League this guy’s athleticism wasn’t among the top tier point guards just because he can jump a little doesn’t make him a John morance John Wall Russell Westbrook or
Derrick Rose and that really shouldn’t be the way that you look at him scoot is clearly a below the rim finisher where he’s finishing 50% at the basket and 29% from 3 to 10 ft it’s clear he’s not used to hitting a wall when he tries to Euro
Step around every rim protector he wants the increased competition has clearly weighed on him this is to be expected of course but as a a guy who was thought to be an NBA ready finisher a project player going downhill kind of sucks to put it bluntly with the strengths of his
Game looking weaker than projected the weaknesses that this kid hid are smack daam in your face with a little play in an offensive system up to this point his decision- making as a playmaker definitely looks a bit stunted there’s turnovers you can expect to see the shift at the point guard position is
Always going to be the hardest just due to the pace of the game but some of the mistakes he’s made are just puzzling to try to make sense of pulling up for contested twos his shot selection is pretty bad failing to read any sort of defense and showing that his Reckless
Play style could raise injury concerns five game into his career is a historically bad start in all honesty after missing the next nine games and being moved to the second unit coming off the bench scoot has really yet to prove much at all although playing better he really couldn’t have played
Much worse to be honest there are certainly times that do look promising when shots are falling but it’s hard to be excited when he chucked up bricks the three games prior scoot can’t be rid off this early into his career of course but even more than just getting used to the
NBA game scoot needs to improve and nearly every aspect of his game thus far although it’s clear that some groundwork has been laid this guy’s way further from NBA ready than anyone expected it should be definitely be a warning for every g-league ignite player in the future after playing two years of bad
Basketball he still looks like a high school kid shocking the question at this point is if scoot is going to be able to turn this ship around and honestly that’s where the scoot Henderson problem becomes a lot more interesting as one of the weakest starts to a career at 19
Years old there really doesn’t seem to be an ounce of timid in him from pretty much every reference he’s ever played with including now there doesn’t seem to be one doubt that whether it’s going well or not he’s going to give it everything he has to get the job done a
19-year-old kid being written off as a bust immediately into his career is a hard seat to be sitting in but in a league that’s just as much mental as pH physical why in the world is this same kid a respected leader of an NBA team I don’t know what’s going to happen with
Scoots as this far into his career it’s hard to label what we’ve seen as anything other than disappointing but if history tells us anything this is the kind of kid who could turn the show around thank you for watching if you made it this far
And I’ll see you boys in the next one peace Out
It’s no secret that Scoot Henderson’s subpar start to his career has been dissapointing. Today we cover the cause for his bad play, and breakdown what the future holds for last year’s third overall pick.

Already a bust after 3+ months in his rookie year. What a shame.
it is very early to write him off but he definitely has been disappointing based on the expectations.
Enjoy your content immensely brother thank you
Idk, i just dont get it. He imo really seemed ready for the NBA. He is playing waaaay different than he did in the gleague, playing with much less confidence.
there was 6 teams that had him has a late second round pick not early first
Nobody named Scoot could ever be a star. Everyone knows that.
I watch every Blazer game and early in the year he looked terrible but he’s definitely improved. His passing is what stands out to me and his shot is a lot better than the first month. He’s also scared to shoot when given space and Chauncey needs to encourage him to shoot those even if he’s afraid he will miss.
Love when if a player isn’t lebron they first year they are a bust smh be patient
How is shooting 75% from the charity stripe supposed to augur well for shooting improvement? Guards should shoot well above 75%. They're called free throws for a reason.
I think eventually he’s going to be a really good player but not a star or superstar. We will see in a couple years if he continues to improve his game.
He will be ok.
He’s played 29 games…..
Its crazy how someone like scoot was crazy raw in middle / high achool and went to the the ignite for 2 years just to focus on basketball its not good atm but someone like shaedon sharpe who skipped college and went dam near straight nba is raw asf for his age. Levels to it.
Lowkey wild how yall calling the dude a bust in his rookie year, and being on a team that has a coaching problem and doesn’t know how they want to start they rebuild, and plus he got hurt too….
I don't know much about Scoot, but he did have the worst plus/minus I've ever seen the other night. Minus 56…I think.
I think this is just the case of quality of the competition catching up with his physical abilities. He'll be fine in c 2 years
It's too early to say he's a bust but he hasn't shown anything to suggest he won't be a bust. An occasional good pass isn't anything impressive. I've seen Killian Hayes do that. Hell, Killian Hayes is a better shooter and finisher. Scoot may develop but it's a long road for the guy and if the Blazers commit to giving him a lot of playing time, they need to just commit to four or five years of being bad.
G league Ignite is a horrible developmental game.
Dude can't shoot.
He’s a bust alright
I’m a Scoot Henderson hater
I’m not a big Scoot fan. But he will be better next year. Some guys have a steeper learning curve and the PG position is probably the tied with Center as the hardest position to play now
Bro plays like Westbrick – turnovers and bricks
Obviously calling anyone a bust in their rookie year is just unwise. However, it’s never too early to adjust a player’s future projections based on hard evidence. And start lowering the odds that a player might reach their potential.
If you thought he was gonna be a 2.5/10 rookie with 9.5/10 potential, it’s perfectly fair to now say maybe he’ll actually be a 1.2/10 rookie with 8/10 potential.
Over the past 20 years there have been only 6 lottery pick guards to shoot worse than 44% from 2 and 31% from deep, along with averaging more than 4 turnovers and 4 personal fouls per 100 possessions (those are Scoot's averages half way through this season). These players are Jalen Suggs, Killian Hayes, Elfrid Payton, Michael Carter-Williams, Jared Bayless, and… De'Aaron Fox.
I hope he gets better, but all the people out there labeling everyone as haters for bringing this up are just being overly sensitive.
Idk man, athletic guards almost always struggle coming into the league. It’s a whole new type of athlete they’re facing takes time to adjust
Seems for the portland administration is getting full of responsability to picks busts every single time they got a chance look for the history as back up
We are so spoiled by guards like luka and trae. We expect guards to be stars first year lol
😂 Man can we give him at least a couple years instead of 30 games before we call him a bust ? I mean this is just silly be patient bro…everyone ain’t Lebron or Shaq & dominates as soon as they in the league.
i appreciate your knowledge of the game and ability to talk in, as well as putting together high quality content like this, but my instinct response to this is to chill. Theres nothing harder than figuring out how to be an NBA point guard. i know you're saying things like "he can't be written off this early," but there's a tone to the video that just adds to the negative narrative. i feel like even though youre just one person, you're messing with the man's money. let him develop. you really think the best scouts in the world got this wrong? that a dude with these kind of INSANE physical attributes (not just speed, but the wingspan and the hands), who grew up with a family who were all serious hoopers and HAD THEIR OWN GYM, and with a mindset like his is a bust?? love the content, hate the click-baity negativity.
I feel like scoot will pick it up down the line and he was bad at the start of the season but definitely he’s improving and you can tell slowly picking up the NBA game
He struggling real bad rn but he still has time. Its only been a few months of the nba, yet people calling him a bust. Stop acting like he cant learn and develop a jumper.
He is a bum
Bill simmons loves this pick…..u til he stfu last week
he's so young with so much potential i'm not buying the bust talk for a long time. not sure how you fully write off anyone under 22 unless the flaws are obviously unfixable or they show no strengths. some of Scoot's struggles are explicitly about him adjusting to the nba and getting comfortable on a basic level. if that doesn't improve in the next year or so it's an issue. then the shot is the big one long term
Going the g league route is stupidity at its finest by now
The redemption arch could potentially be legendary… Same with the Pistons… I'm going to give it a few years.
Bruh Trae and Luka definitely changed the way we look at rookies, he will be fine
I think it was reckless and unnecessary for Scoot to forgo his senior season in high school. I'm sure some kids can do that but I view it as extremely risky. Scoot needs to devote all of this upcoming Summer working on his game with his coaches because he's not ready to be a good NBA player yet. His poor season, so far, may be a maturity issue. Scoot has plenty of talent to be an all-star but he's a 19 year old kid playing a professional game meant for grown men. He's also thousands of miles away from home and his confidence is probably really low at this point. My guess is that Scoot is going to be really good because he's stacked with talent. If he becomes a bust, I think it'll be more because of off the court decisions than on the court ones. I wish Scoot nothing but good luck not only because I'm a Blazers' fan but also because I don't like to see anyone fail, especially a kid in a man's world. Thanks for the video.
