Darko hinting towards tank?

Interesting quote from Darko, looks like we finally have a direction.

Doesn’t have to be tank, this quote could mostly mean winning isn’t first in mind and it’s more developing the players and getting experience

  2. mxgicjohnson

Just sounds like the org finally realizes what makes sense

  3. ZoroChopper10

Siakam a goner man, he’s not in this timeline

12 games treasure them before deadline

  4. I think it’s definitely gonna be ala Tampa season but even then the FO waited until it became mathematically impossible to make the play in and then shut it down. I’d expect more of the same unless the gap between where we are and the 10 seed for the play in game widens

No way they completely bottom out though because they’re not getting worse than Detroit, San Antonio or Washington even after the inevitable Siakam trade

From the beginning of the year there’s been dissonance between the reality the FO put on the court and what they told Darko his objectives were. Clearly they told Darko to act as if Pascal wouldn’t be on the team at the beginning of the year, but they dragged trade talks through the whole season. Don’t have their first round pick and are clearly trying to win, but also emphasized to Darko about development and playing the bad guys on the roster heavy minutes which is counterintuitive to winning.

Pascal and GTjr are both gone, Dick will get more play time, and they will start to tank.

  7. EarlofSlammwich

Management already knows who they want 100%

  8. Eclectic_Canadian

He said almost exactly this at the beginning of the season. This isn’t saying they’re going to tank, this is saying they aren’t going to play starters 40+ minutes a game and pull young bench players after their first mistake so they can pull out a few more wins over the season

  9. knucknbuc

Exactly why u don’t trade future 1st round draft picks for middling centers….

  10. I kind of hoping that Detroit trades their 2024 pick to us now for Siakam and GTJ and we fuckin suck for the rest of the season and land two top 5 picks…

Honestly with how mediocre this draft is, might as well tank and give the pick to SA. Wipe the slate clean. Assets back for Pascal and GTJ and keep building on this new core

  12. ContributionOld2338

Again, yanking without owning your makes no sense… unless we’re trying to get that top 6 but there’s already a lot of teams with worse w/l

  13. SnooPineapples6099

    Really, really stupid FO.

Coulda had a real shot at Wemby.

    Absolute morons.

  14. fredvancleef

basically hoping we remain around that 6th pick and moving up lol.

  15. There’s no real tanking, even with Pascal, GTJ and Boucher trade we’re not a bottom 5 team. That pick is going to the Spurs. At this point just about development.

Not a huge deal the 2024 draft is not particularly good.

  16. Chance_Preparation_5

Mine as well try and make the play in since they don’t have there pick.

  17. how does that hint a tank? we been knew we have to develop some young dudes and let them grow so…

  18. AdSignificant6673

Darko : hello Aron Baynes? You’ve been called up to the big leagues.

Aron Baynes : Sweet! 再见. 谢谢中国!
    (Goodbye. Thank You China!)

  19. 4thislife

Choosing to tank the year AFTER Wemby is certainly a choice.

  20. Don’t think this means tank. It just means he knows they’re going to outright suck for a few years.

Gradey is still like 3 years away. Whoever they draft in 2025 won’t be able to contribute immediately. They still need to move Jak for someone above average, so who knows how long it’ll take them to do that

  21. A really good thing for a young team to learn is …

    HOW TO PLAY DEFENCE!

  22. cashmcnash

Don’t think that necessarily means tanking, just not really caring if they win as long as they’re developing their future stars.

In other words if that leads to losing, fine, but I don’t think they’re trying to engineer losses either. It’s a byproduct.

  23. Barnicus57

How is this indicative of tanking? Is he supposed to tell RJ, Quickley and Scottie to start playing poorly? lol.

His point is most likely that the goal is to develop players, get them used to the system as a unit, and not make winning the priority at the moment.

  24. Two points he made were making plans to develop players which doesn’t mean just in game

Other one was purtle is still 2 weeks away from reassessment which means that siakam undercut caused a high grade sprain

He definitely shouldn’t have kept playing after it took a while for him to get back up

  25. intospooderman

If we tank, should be next season, this draft isnt looking too promising

  26. KayPizzle

I mean, we all knew this once we hired him right? He’s known for player development, so there was always a chance that this would be the direction it could head in.

  27. Icy-Lime-9760

Last year it was generational draft but they decided to aim for the play in, this year the draft is weak and they decide to tank. Just beautiful.
