Russ Angers Basketball Gods While Mike Brown Angry At Refs

Russ Angers Basketball Gods While Mike Brown Angry At Refs

We had a wild night in the NBA much better than all those NFL blowouts with a crazy ending at the buzzer but the real Intrigue was yet another coach detonating on the refs both during the game and in the postgame interview that’s why I got kicked out and some

Real shenanigans on the Clippers bench while Rudy was shooting free throws it’s completely unclear to me why these guys were having so much fun at Rudy’s expense especially when two of them aren’t even getting off the bench in this game notice that another free throw each ch Mason Plum Ley sits silent

Without a reaction but I’ll admit Rudy’s next attempt was worth ridiculing since you should expect a pro to at least hit the rim but then to see Russ wanting his reaction to be filmed by a fan is a little problematic and certainly would anger the basketball Gods after all Russ

Is no stranger to shooting airballs from the free throw line down 16 tyo does a smart thing and takes the foul on Rudy to force him to shoot free throws this strategy could backfire if the shooter hits one of the free throws since 1.0 points per possession is pretty good

After being woefully short on all his misses till now the crowd chanting Rudy inspires him to shoot this one long shortly after Russ commits another foul to send Rudy to the line and he again makes one of two to maintain that 13-point lead however Lou was successful in forcing Timberwolves coach Chris

Finch to take him out removing a Lynch pin of their Elite defense with under 2 minutes to go you cannot take a foul on a player unless he’s part of the play so he comes back in with a nine-point lead this time the wolves get smart and keep

Rudy away from the ball so they can’t follow him but they don’t run a play and ant burps up a terrible shot with a lot of time on the shot clock Rudy makes his presence known on the other end as kawhai gets into the lane but instead of

Hitting the hottest guy in the gym wide open in the corner he tries to quick release a jump hook and Rudy says not in French which means no but another terrible decision by Edwards sees him not only push push the ball needlessly with a six-point lead and less than a

Minute and a half left but then fumbles The Gather out of bounds I hate to say it but the Wolves don’t look well coached here as they allow the Clippers to roll the ball up and save at least eight precious seconds and then we get to find out why kawhai should have

Passed it to Powell as Conley falls asleep for a second gets caught with a shot fake and now Minnie has to be dealing with some major sphincter itis but another mistake by the Timberwolves why are they bringing Rudy up to screen this allows Russ to fou him and send him

On a free throw line Adventure remember if they try and fou a player off the ball in the last two minutes the Wolves would get a free throw and retain possession but Rudy Strikes Back by calmly stepping up to that line Gathering his thoughts and hits not one

But both of these crucial free throws yet another silly defensive mistake on the ensuing possession why does McDaniel’s care at all about Russ going to the corner when he’s supposed to be guarding kawhai freaking Leonard this gets the Clippers a wide open open look and the wolves have to be thankful that

Since the rust thing on the bench the basketball Gods Must Be on their side look how fired up Rudy is to be getting more free throws and gosh darn it he comes through again with two more makes to extend the lead to seven another huge mistake by Edwards to Shadow PG when the

Ball is practically at half court leaving a wide open James Harden more Poetic Justice by the basketball Gods as he airballs the open shot but Russ tries to put goar on a poster no dice but they get two points at the line then the Wolves again got caught with their pants

Down assuming the Clippers would fou immediately Conley can’t be a receiver since he’s in the back court Edwards panics and instead of throwing it to a wide open cat turns it over this probably didn’t matter in the result but it certainly matters to the basketball

Gods as Russ gets to the rim to cut it to two and promptly and embarrassingly blows the open layup there are lessons to be learned by all sides and the first lesson you can learn is to use Seiki the best app to find find tickets to any sporting event concert or the theater

There he was nice enough to bring out a visual aid for everyone to understand where he was coming from I just want to show you guys why I got kicked out of the game right here Fox barely puts his hand on Dame’s hip okay incidental contact he didn’t push him or anything

He barely puts his hand on there and they give him three free throws I mean watch it again and it’s pretty clear that the contact FOX makes to a player going airborne can easily knock them off balance if you don’t believe me get on the important and try dribbling to your

Right and have a friend put direct pressure to the side of your midsection like this and find out so this call was fine but he wasn’t done he had a real gripe with a drive by Malik monk in the first half Lopez comes over and goes vertical with a forearm down here now

From what the NBA tells me the rule is if you go vertical you got to have two hands up he is exactly right in how he describes the play but the rule book does not say anything about requiring both arms to be extended up like that to

Better explain this rule I brought in chip Clark a college ref an expert on the rules and a guy you should be following on Twitter for daily interpretations chip thanks so much for coming on the show and helping us break this thing down uh let’s talk about the

Three things that you want to focus on when we’re talking about verticality as it relates to this play and when they reviewed it and the result that they came up with absolutely hey first of all thanks for letting me uh be on the show with you today Nick um so the three

Things that we’ll need to understand with verticality I want to address the airspace which deals with a Defender jumping vertically from the position on the floor Flor that they left on this play Lopez jumps from the spot he left on the floor and jumps straight up within that airspace that he’s entitled

To and we see monk encroach onto that space because domas has his hand down here a lot and they call him for it every time and they always tell us well you got a forearm here and they said that that they said that tonight they

Said forarm can be here as long as it’s not extended so I don’t know what the rules are in this situation I did find some good examples of sabonis with a forearm down low and the other arm up high but you can see why these are fouls

As his arm extends and actually causes the contact now I also found a number of attempted verticality by sabonis where he’s drifting way out from his initial jumping off point and has his arms lowered in front of him or he has his arms vertical but then brings one down

To make contact across the wrist of the shooter for an obvious call the second point I want to deal with is the arm that’s down here if the arm and forearm and arm bar down here does not extend end and does not impede that player from their normal movement or at all hinder

The offensive player in any way from their normal offensive movement then that contact is incidental when it occurs with that arm sure it’s extended outside of his vertical plane but as soon as that contact is felt it immediately collapses to his body well I got to interrupt you here on a couple

Different things here because as we’re looking at the Baseline angle and I’m looking at this you know all morning long and now again the 50th time I got to tell you that armar that Lopez throws out you can see the left arm of Monk it

Looks like it has to move away from or you know toward from his left to his right because of the force of that right arm by Lopez and I know it collapses right away after that but I don’t know it feels like the initial contact is so

Far outside of uh Lopez’s cylinder that I’m a little bit troubled by that or a lot troubled but then the more thing I’m troubled with is you did mention the fact that there is a notion of the arm is not straight up above his the shoulder um but there is clear Conta to

The head because it’s down that low and I can’t figure that out why they would have sort of said that’s incidental or after the initial contact the last point is with the arm that is straight up okay you could say that it is not straight up above his shoulders that’s the part that

I have a little bit of problem with on this play but here’s the Nuance okay if you do lift but if you do choose to lift an arm to contest a shot while you jump vertically then that arm needs to be raised above your shoulders the rule does not specify anything about you

Having to raise both arms you can choose to raise just one arm and keep the other arm down here or by your side but if you choose to lift any arm those arms need to be extended vertically above your shoulders straight up Lopez’s arm is down a little bit however upon review

What I believe that they saw and determined is that no contact with that illegally extended arm occurred and the initial point of contact was in the chest and shoulder area and even armpit of Lopez on this play and I believe that they determined that that arm contact was incidental after the initial point

Of contact in the shoulder but I definitely understand frustration from fans and even potentially Mike Brown on a play like that when it gets reversed um after the initial foul was called now watch this right right here Fox comes off a pick and roll campaign hooks him

Hooks his arm look at Fox’s look at Fox’s arm when he spins off of this no incidental contact he hooks his arm and almost Falls and there’s no foul so he’s exactly right on this one campaign absolutely clamps down on Fox’s arm does fox had a little falling off balance

Himself maybe but both the trail and the slot officials needed to be higher up the court to see this better instead they were both stacked and didn’t get a clear shot at it so they didn’t call it and Mike Brown has every right to be upset however he absolutely positively

Cannot storm out onto the court to argue this in the middle of the play the contact he makes with conon was substantial enough that you have to be worried about a potential injury to the player he could have twisted his ankle injured his knee maybe even ribs

Considering Mike Brown is a very solid human it’s not acceptable to be making this point like this and I imagine he’ll get a hefty fine and I think he should get a one game suspension as well and the rest tonight they were great they communicated with me all night but in

Terms of the consistency you guys saw it right here Dame coming off the pick and roll and Foxy getting hooked and almost falling coming off the pick and roll to demand consistency from the refs on two completely different types of plays is a troubling argument to say the least so

Hopefully he’ll go through the film and realize the refs were fair just because there’s a free throw disparity for a half does not mean the refs were missing every shooting file for your team there are a lot of rational explanations that don’t border on conspiracy especially

When you don’t double the only guy who’s going to shoot this shot when you’re up by two points incredible shot the most clutch guard of his era but what could you possibly be thinking if you’re sabonis by not coming up to double near half court so there you have it sports

Fans yet another coach going public with his concerns about the refs while the Clippers effed around and found out and Rudy came through in the clutch where he’s actually shooting slightly better from the free throw line than the rest of the game so kudos to him but they

Better clean up all those poor decisions in a hurry if they want to seriously contend for a title a

  1. Game for Sacramento was rigged! Refs for years have had a despairingly free throw count compared to their opponents! The one ref who made all these bad calls should be fined and put on suspension or kicked out of the league. Itā€™s all money based and story line. Kings lost that game should have hit missed free throws in OT. Mike Brown is a great Coach, an OG, and is sane in his mind! These refs in the league should be held way more accountable and the league should get it figured out! Like if Giannis has a defender do what Lopez did they overturning that call on a challengeā€¦? League needs to fire NBA commissioner. Heā€™s not doing his job at all this year! Complete joke. Tired of kings getting no respect game after game. Itā€™s pathetic

  2. Thanks for the great content as always.

Coach can we get a video on how "coach's challenge" changed the NBA?
I find calls are being made extremely late constantly now (I watch all Bulls games).
It seems to be caused by the refs wanting to see who has possession before the whistle is blown.
Otherwise you will have a un/successful challenge result with a jump ball – and that seems crazy to most viewers.

  3. The refs in the nba are a absolute joke. The lack of accountability is infuriating. How is there always a coach or player in trouble but nothing happened to any ref after any game?šŸ˜‚ not even the la Toronto one. Itā€™s a joke

  4. Westbrook is the worst trashtalker of the history every time he try to trashtalk he do something embarassing after , lose or both this time it was both

  5. Its funny how harden rolls the ball up to save time but then takes 5 seconds to get the play started.

  6. Bro wolves players are dumb as hell. Ant and Kat especially.

Lopez wasn't vertical. IDK wtf that means to you guys but it means straight up and down to me. MF was a letter C

  7. Good call on the slot/trail at the end coach. I saw it immediately. Note, however, that this was not the fault of the trail, nor the slot. It was the fault of the lead, who was on the wrong side. It makes no sense for him to be on that side anyway.
In 2 person officiating, the trail is on the left. Why? because most players dribble righthandedly, towards the rim. That means they have good view of any action and can look between the players for contact the second a blowby occurs.
In 3 person officiating, the lead determines the positions of the slot and the trail. The lead wants to be on the strong (ball) side, roughly along the location of the ball. When the ball switches sides, the lead determines if he can switch sides (and the slot and trail then rotate accordingly)
It almost feels like the lead has been doing 2 person officiating and was plopped into a 3person setup… and the team as a whole just followed his lead.
But even if the lead is on the wrong side, that is no reason for the slot and trail to not adjust position if the play demands it. So in the end… all are at fault.
