The Toronto Raptors are between a rock and a hard place. News today about Pascal Siakam tanking his trade value breaks the Raptors’ leverage for their largest asset and highest paid player, and it feels that once again, the Raptors find themselves with 4-5-6-7 guys looking around wondering where they’ll be next week. The Raptors have done a great job establishing culture for half the team as the other half wonder when they’ll be shipped out to slaughter.
To make matters exponentially worse, their hedge that they would be good enough to compete this season is backfiring. The Raptors will gift the Spurs a top 10 pick at this stage, as they are currently sitting 6th from the bottom… with a top-6 protected pick, as the 8th oldest roster in the league, with a leader who thinks the Celtics can win a championship.
This is a mess. It needs a major reset.
