[Charania] The Pacers feel “pretty strongly” about being able to re-sign Pascal Siakam. Indiana is very motivated to acquire Siakam, who is at the top of their wish list for potential trade targets. Bennedict Mathurin and Jarace Walker wouldn’t be included in the deal.

They should, being able to offer Siakam 5 year 250 million at age 30 he’s not turning down lol

    He’s already got his championship

Most important part is that last sentence. Getting Siakim and keeping the young core together will put us in a position to not only be successful right now, but also sustain that success into the future. This is a good deal that extends our contention window if it happens.

Edit: also interesting that Toronto asked about Jarace considering how little we’ve seen from him. Probably a good sign.

  3. Siakam and Nembhard share the same agency. The pacers aren’t in the dark here

That starting 5 would immediately be elevated and assuming we send a player shortens our rotation to probably a 10 man which is even better since we are so deep already.

    I really hope this happens.

The important thing to focus on is the price. Looking ahead to next year: Buddy is expiring. Bruce is on a team option (and we overpaid him for one season to be able to cut him after that year). If those are the two players we lose, the cost is basically nothing. Even giving up one of our backup centers helps us clear a logjam, plus we have 30+ minutes a night of all-star level Big minutes coming in, it’s ok.

The draft picks we send are going to all come in the draft dead zone. They have some value, but honestly, not much. Especially those two from this upcoming weak draft. We picked in that 10-25 range for years and essentially didn’t add a rotation player via the draft from Myles (2015) to Mathurin (2022).

The actual, real cost is in salary for the upcoming offseason’s free agency period. If Pascal was going to be the target all along, then we did ourselves a huge favor in trading for him now and getting time plus the bigger contract to offer. The question to ask is what else that money gets us. Remember last year? We had all that money and there were no targets. We ended up paying a $12-15M player almost double what he was worth so we could release him after one year if we wanted. We punted for a year.

The other option is to just bring back all the same players on similar salaries and keep going. The current team is good and fun, but the way to compete is to make moves to bring in more talent.

If the price is just Buddy and Bruce and picks, I’m all for it, assuming we bring Pascal back on the offseason. It’s a disaster if he walks (no matter what we trade). But if we turn our cap room, 3 low-percentage picks, and two expiring vets into a few years of all-NBA level PF play, I think that’s a win.

The other key part of this update is him saying that the Pacers appear to be reaching their threshold, and then mentioning Jarami Grant as a fallback option.

Sounds like the Pacers are ready for this shit to be over or are prepared to move on

I’m all on board now. Let’s get it done. Siakam would be a huge rebounding and defensive boost. And he can be a secondary scorer and playmaker when teams try to shut down Tyrese. Hopefully playing with the best PG in the league will up his 3 pt efficiency to at least league average.

  8. They must really be banking on Siakam loving the Tyrese experience. I guess as long as you don’t have to give up young guys, it is probably worth the re-sign gamble. Those draft picks weren’t going to do much anyway and Bruce/Buddy are losses, but not huge ones.

I know people have complained about him not being the same age as Tyrese, but I don’t see that as being an issue. Unless he has some weird early career drop-off, he should be solid through another contract, which gets you through Tyrese’s max, or at least close to it. If his game fits as well as it could on paper, and the young dudes progress, this could be your 3-5 year run at a chip and no one is going to complain about ages matching then.

  9. Anyone got Siakam’s stats on the Raps championship run?

I have a hard time believing that this deal centers around Nembhard, Brown, and 3 bad FRPs especially if Siakam will be resigning. Raps will need better

Really hope Toppin isn’t part of the deal, but it sure looks like he could be.

  12. Not too far fetched to think that Siakam may like playing with the best young pg in the league

  13. I’m not in the trade for Siakam group but…

If the Pacers get Siakam, I’ll be a fan.
If the Pacers don’t, I’ll be a fan.

Do I personally feel like the Pacers should’ve tanked starting at the beginning of March to have an opportunity to get a better pick? Yep.
Did it happen? No. And I’m still a fan.

Regardless of what has and will happen, I just can’t wait until this is figured out one way or another.
