Things I’ve noticed during this game:

    – They had flashes of brilliance in the first half, but they were overshadowed by silly turnovers and not securing the ball

    – Those missed open 3s all through the first half were brutal to watch. Those are definitely shots the boys can’t be missing

    – The Celtics can hit some really tough shots, and are deadly as hell from beyond the arc

    – 3rd quarters are looking good, but they won’t mean much if they can’t stay close enough in the first half

    – Vassel did a great job driving and getting to the FT line in the second half; him being aggressive driving to the basket really helps open his game up (no duh)

    – Our guys are really struggling to get calls our way on defense. Probably because of who they were playing, but it’s frustrating to watch for sure

    – Every game shows me that Wembanyama is the truth. Can’t wait for his minutes restriction to be lifted. ISOs at the top of the key is crazy to watch him execute

    – Justice for Johnson!! How many times is Keldon gonna get his in the face before they call a foul on Tatum? lol

    – They showed better defense in the 2nd half so I know they can play D, we just gotta wake up before halftime to play it

    – If the Spurs do anything prior to the trade deadline, I just hope they can get another consistent vet who can provide consistent D and a serviceable offense

    – I REALLY miss living in SA and being around reasonable basketball fans who understand development and like the Spurs. It’s lonely out here in the real world lmao

I’m curious to see where the team goes after this season. I know that this whole season is for development of Wemby and the guys surrounding him, but I truly wonder how many of them will actually be on the team in 2-3 years.

All I can say is if you are feeling down on the team and not confident in what we’re doing, trust in PATFO and what’s being worked on beyond the court we watch. I do believe with all of our draft assets and the brain trust working on trades and roster building that we will be successful with Wemby and have another shot at the title. GSG

    **Pros**

    * WEMBY!! Hot from 3 early, nifty drives to the basket, and posterizing Kornet with a monster left-handed slam on his way to another big scoring game
    * Vassell bounced back this game, attacking the basket more often in the 2nd half with his 3pt shot not falling
    * Sochan doing a bit of everything despite a rough shooting night,
    * Jones another night with double digit assists
    * Champagnie efficient scoring night
    * Only 9 TOs tonight

    **Cons**

    * 3pt defense: Celtics shot 68% from 3 in the 1st half, finishing the night around 47%
    * Meanwhile, the team shot 20% from 3
    * Relatively quiet night from Johnson
    * Branham’s defense: losing track of Pritchard, etc.

    **Overall**

Celtics showed why they are legit title contenders this season despite the absence of White and Porzingis this game, making things tough defensively for us while generating good looks on offense.

    **Looking Forward**

A good opportunity to try and get back in the W column against the Hornets on Friday night.

New minutes cap for Vic set to 27?? I’m for it

  4. Bonesawisready5

Solid game from Vic. We need a real 2nd scorer so bad

  5. blue-anon

    A few takeaways:

Branham’s minutes were brutal as usual, even when he was decent offensively.

I’m more and more impressed by Dom Barlow each game. I’m curious to see what happens when Zach comes back.

Wemby wasn’t as patient as he has been lately, but this is also a better defensive team than we’ve played (maybe all season).

I’d love to get wins in the next two games, but that would likely mean Wemby playing both, which I won’t even dare to dream of.

  6. aboveaverageadvice

Vassell did a good job at attacking the rim this game, but he’s in a bad slump right now. Whole team needs to hit more 3s, but a good game from Wemby, quiet 27 points. Didn’t expect a win against the Celtics but we could’ve made this a closer game

  7. thedam100

Earlier quote of mine. “Our team’s weakness is the perimeter. Boston attempts the most 3s in the league. That’s why the hawks game looked like it did. They were planning to shoot us out the gym. Joe mazzulla (Boston’s coach) is a heavy stats guy so they have a quota to put up threes. If porzingis stretches the floor that brings Wemby out of of the paint so that means white and brown will look for drives. I’m gonna do my best to cheer on the guys tonight but just an analytical standpoint it’s our worst match in the league with our current roster construction. Just praying for a strong energy effort out the game and hell anything can happen if we make shots and we have a 7’4 phenom defending in the paint.”

    ^^

I said this earlier and even without white or porzingis this happened anyway. We didn’t make shots. Our perimeter defense failed us. It did step up in the second half. So they ended up with 47.5 at the end of the game but they were up to 68% from three and we were down 25pts. We went on an 16-6 run and that was it. Couldn’t really get back into the ball game after that. I was hoping we could have gotten the same amount of bench production as the last few games. But that didn’t happen. Only two people scored double digits tonight. No way we can win like that. Good take away was at least Vassell didn’t settle tonight. Much better sign. Wemby was Wemby point per minute production. Onto the next.

  8. PatNewbie

Dominick Barlow might literally be a better perimeter defender than Malaki Branham.

  9. oftentroller

I am surprised Jones get his 10th assist especially we had a bad shooting night.

  10. Spiritual_Echo_1000

I know it’s obvious but being better at 3s would help with so many things. Would space the floor, open guys up, not make our defensive flaws as bad, etc

  11. Infinite-Material-97

We sure suck at hitting three point shots. Feels like every team we play that beats us by this much always ends up being the same story: They can’t miss from 3 and we can’t hit.

  12. Without reliable 3point shooter you can’t even compet againts this kind of team

  13. thedam100

My happiest night will be when both Vassell and Keldon can give me 20 points in a single game while Wemby gives me his usual production. 😪
