Reports: Pacers finalizing deal to acquire Pascal Siakam from Raptors | CBS Sports

In some big breaking news in the NBA the Indiana Pacers are acquiring Pascal SE yakum from the Toronto Raptors and a three- team trade with the Pelicans in return the Raptors received Bruce Brown Jordan Mo and three first round picks from Indiana as well as Kira Lewis from

The Pelicans now sakam who is in the final year of his current deal is a two-time Allstar former NBA champ who is averaging 22 points per game this season and let’s welcome in our NBA Insider Bill Ryder to talk about this big breaking news in the NBA Pascal seaka

Former NBA champ totime Allstar heading to the Indiana Pacers um bill is this something that you were expecting or were you completely shocked by this news so we knew over the last maybe 12 24 hours from reports that this was possible but but I do think it’s a it’s

A pleasant surprise for the Pacers and it obviously indicates what other folks around in other front offices around the NBA had heard that that this organization the Pacers believe they have some kind of a window an opportunity to be relevant that their run to that playin inseason tournament I

Should say final against the Lakers wasn’t a fluke and the fact that that Tyrese halton’s injury is not going to be the kind that we thought initially when he got carried off that’s going to sideline them for the whole season means they felt like they were in a position

To go for it to be bold to try to land a star player and that is absolutely what they’ve in seak um so Bill we were talking a little bit about this off camera it’s it’s a high price there so there is a debate whether the Pacers are actually a

Contender right now they’re 23 and 17 sixth in the East does this solidify them with Tyrese halber as a sure contender in the East and maybe to go all the way in your opinion how much of a boost is this for the Pacers yeah you said this is not a

Universal perspective I’m about to give out give here and there’s some debate about it before it happened with the anticipation of Might and certainly will continue I think that there are enough of a contender that that makes sense to go for this and I’m not taking a shot at

Indianapolis I’m from Iowa I’m from a small town but some markets are bigger than others and some markets it’s easier to attract Talent than others and any GM will tell you it is easier to be the general manager in general terms in a vacuum in Los Angeles or New York or

Chicago than it might be in Oklahoma City or Indianapolis and so if you see a little bit of daylight you think you have a chance you you go for it and this is a team this Pacers organization that look at the Eastern Conference and that’s not to say they don’t respect

Boston but maybe they see some some vulnerabilities in other places they are obviously very high on what halberton brings to the team they have a very very young talented team but they don’t pay those guys a lot of money so there’s cap space so yes I I think if the Atlanta

Hawks can make a Conference Finals a couple years ago as a surprise even the Raptors who won an NBA championship with seak he knows the story when they won that NBA championship very few people saw that coming and they brought in Kawhi Leonard to kind of try to make

That push very few thought it was going to be successful I think there is a window is it to be NBA champions this year probably not but is there a world where things go the right way and they make a nice little run in the postseason

And are a catalyst for this team and this organization yeah I think a second round or a think everything goes perfectly even a Conference Finals is within the realm of what’s possible all right we mentioned it he’s in the final year of his contract spent eight seasons

In Toronto um do you think this means potentially he’s going to be there in Indiana longterm a one-year deal how do you see it playing out so this is the most interesting thing to me because because when the reports came out yesterday that that the pace might

Acquire seak I talked I called several folks and what the information that that came back was skepticism in part because SE yakum and really the people that represent sakam had made it had made it very clear he’s not signing an extension he’s not going to do it if you bring him

In he’s a rental so maybe if the price gets driven down near the trade deadline and it’s a team that unlike the Pacers are Championship contenders maybe somebody would have gone for it this certainly indicates to me Jacqueline that the Pacers have already been told or believe they can sign him to a

Long-term deal and it’s a little surprising because again this is not the market that guys tend to Target but maybe they’ve sold siakan the idea that we’ve got a plan that obviously halber is a star they do have a lot of money I mean they have the space to pay this guy

You know the the max that they’re able to do so I the shorter answer is I hope so because that’s a lot to give up for ryal for the Pacers and so I have to imagine yes despite this going against everything that seaka I’m told that the

Message he put out over across the ba must be open to very much so the idea of staying there long term because this is not what you give away especially for this organization for a short ter ryal all right Bill Ryder joining us here on CBS Sports HQ as we are following that

Breaking news out of the NBA Pascal SE yakum going from Toronto to the Indiana Pacers thanks so much Bill we appreciate it and of course Pascal sakam spending eight seasons with Toronto from 2016 to 2024 he is now heading to Indiana a long list of accolades there 2019 NBA champ

Uh two-time NBA Allstar the list goes on and on the fifth most games played in franchise history for the Raptors now heading to Indiana

NBA insider Bill Reiter joins CBS Sports HQ to discuss the Pacers trading for 2-time NBA All Star Pascal Siakam.

  1. Was hoping GSWarriors would of traded for Siakiam&G.Dick instead.
Pacers are a good team but this dosent move the needle enough to beat any of the big dogs in the East of the NBA. Nice but not Great. Good Luck Siakiam.

  2. That is a really good and huge pickup by the pacers. They need someone like him. They can score literally on anybody but the problem is they can't stop anybody at all. They need a front court in the worst way

  3. The Pacers did it because Haliburton is exceptional & players are openly saying they want to play with him. Yes it’s hard for a team like them to attract top players but once they’re there they tend to want to stay. A LOT of pro players who go there end up staying & living their lives there. If Indy sucked, like people’s perceptions of it are, they wouldn’t all stay there. I used to live there & it’s a nice place, friendly + it’s CLEAN. anyone who lives there would be shocked at how filthy & nasty places like NYC Baltimore or Philly are and west coast cities like LA & Portland? Forget about it.

  4. 😖I am a big pacers fan and i am so mad at this trade. We give up 3 1st round picks for this bum. Like are you serious right now 😣

  5. Glad Bill talked about whether the Raptors got enough back from the trade. Great analysis Bill from both ends of this trade.

  6. As a magic fan its disconcerting to see all of our competition making these big trades to get significantly better while we sit on our hands

  7. Pascal Siakam is a really good player, but holy cow, THREE first round picks AND he just might not sign with you after his deal is done in a year?

  8. If the crapy Bucks can land Giannis win a championship then anything can happen
    They're not beating the Cs

  9. People acting like the Pacers haven't beat Milwaukee 4 times this year and the only team to have beaten Boston twice this year?! 😕
